Andromeda? Rulez!!!!!!!!
rulez added on the 2021-07-04 01:33:07 by Skynet
Super!
Congratulations, nice one. Smooth look, I liked the kaleidos and fluid dynamics.
great demo!
Fucking hell, I was so looking forward to the Amiga compo when this was delivered. It lived up to all my expectations. Great production!
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Fast, fun, stylish and throughly modern. Lovely effects and zero oldschool wanking. Best a500 prod in years
I have been waiting for the day andromeda will return. Of course, it will return to Amiga.
W00t?!? Hyde, you old fart!!! :)
ocs, 1M, kaleidous, boubbles... ah yeah
This demo is a masterpiece in design.
Yes, welcome back!!
what a beauty!
Nice… love the music, pixel art, colors and the ball “physics”… triggers my coding genes to start again after Pause of Revision 2021…
really solid, and the kaliedoscope and bubbles parts were particularly lovely
sweet
What a pleasant surprise. Don't leave it so long till next time. All the thumbs up.
Beware of RULE 90, TSL will be back 😉
Very stylish (as expected) demo with interesting and unusual effects accompanied by a good tune.
really nice.
yay Andromeda is back with a nice synthwavy 30 year old birthday demo
Next demo on AGA please :)
Beautiful demo. Glad to see that Andromeda is back in business.
Great Demo, cool to see Andromeda back on Amiga!!
Very nice mood, good to see more great amiga demos from Andromeda <3
Keep up the OCS spirit very fresh and yet oldschool! Lovely and unexpected comeback, just like melon's.
.yeah! Even if OCS it works fine on AGA/040.
One of the best OCS releases for quite a while. My only nitpick is that loading/unpacking the demo is quite slow (~1 min)
Great OCS demo, not a fan of the music tbh
Top quality demo! Don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a cool effect on A500 as the balls at the end.
Nice one. Especially liked the balls and the first blue vectorline mountain mirror.
I wish the music would have used some other instrument for the lead - but thats just me..

This took me by surprise! So glad you guys are back.
Great one, I especially fell for the bubbles part.
Great demo that brings together all the elements (code, gfx, audio) which I haven't seen in years.
Ace! Colliding balls always have been a favourite of mine, and here it's really flowing nicely.
Also nice original views of 1D automaton, with the zoom (and probably the isometric view at the beginning).
All this with wonderful graphics and nice music!

neat design, good music. welcome back!
Yeah!
3D free demo, no cube was harmed. Rulez!
Lovely! Great to see you guys back on OCS :)
Nice!
Nice and smooth, lets see if there's more coming!
is good
Amigaaa!
Really smooth & enjoyable, especially the balls
norm
Such a well rounded prod, and has that Amdromeda touch, plenty of sync porn and design.
Beeeeeautiful!
yep, the balls are definetely touching.
Great! The balls at the end are one of a kind in terms of movement/flow.
Only effect vaguely resembling it might be Spaceballs/Vold with the bouncer circle that bully the others around and tell them to take another walk around the block before they're let back in the disco.
I like the isometric rectangloids too and triangle zoomed thing and the laser line intro of the andromeda logo. Much new stuff to be seen here

Fresh. Quite a joy to watch! Thanks!
I enjoyed a lot the balls at the end - smooth as hell. Great job guys :)
Yeah good indeed.
Not so many Amiga quality releases this year so nice to see one like this.
Very nice visuals and music. The design is very nice and consistent. Thanks :)

Some great ideas in this one... particularly like the kaleidoscope hexagons and the physical ball streams... very nice colour schemes too!!
An awesome comeback on the Amiga. Congrats, guys!
great
Very nice, great design, love the greets
So nice
Clean design, no unnecessary fluff :) And the style of the images is awesome.
All the greatest come back to OCS! <3
Not great but some effects like the bubbles one is very nice and speed. I'm now expect more in future from a team like Andromeda 😉
Nice.
Nice stuff spoiled by a bland slow tune that makes the whole thing a bit depressing and indifferent. It goes back to safe chords and safe melody notes all the time very quickly like a continuous stream of tiresome four-bar endings.
so stylish & smooth!
The Balls!
Gods and heroes shall
Fade away in time
She will live forever
Our queen Andromeda
Fade away in time

Our queen Andromeda
Can't wait for rule 34 ;)
Great!
nice, i like part with Penrose triangle
Awesome surprise! Great production too. The Amiga bois at Gubbdata were so excited seeing this that they lay down on the floor and screamed like small girls. It was amazing. And I am super honoured that you decided to release this one at Gubbdata. Thanx guys!

The truth. My flabbers where well and truly ghasted!

First time I ran it on my 1200/060, without a hitch. I was so scared to fuck up any timing I didn't know about, that I decided to do the compo show on my cruddy A500 I had as a backup.
Great demo guys, thanks Hyde, Archmage and Interphace. Hoping for more soon. :)
Sweet!
Very nice demo! I love the happy, laid-back mood, combined with the very stylish visuals.
What a surprise. I almost cried !
a very nice surprise :)
Excellent!
Well done!
Happy belated anniversary! It was worth the extra wait! Lovely demo with beautiful graphics, catchy tune and fresh code. I love them balls!
What a way to come back, love every second of the demo! Welcome back! <3
I resisted the urge to spoil it by Youtube heresy \o/
Beautiful arrangement of 2D goodness. Nice tune with a terminatoresque intro, excellent graphics and gorgeously coloured effects ... glowing kaleidoskopiclimax :D
If there would've been one little gripe, it would be the kind of missing tangible peak, which most certainly was intended to be the fractal zoom. With an ever so slightly progression in colour palette to its end the resolve by the wonderful fluid balls would've been even better.

This is really good! Would love to see more before the 40th anniversary of course, but then again: it's just 8 years to go now. :)
solid
Meanwhile at the oldskool ocs/ecs amiga facebook page:
"This is our homage to the Amiga 500 and the wonderful Scene that still sustains it and continue to innovate with what is easily still the best home computer ever made.🥰 It was a long and enjoyable journey to make it and we hope this shines through. Is this a one-off? No. Will there more Andromeda productions in the future? Yes. Is it allowed to repost productions in this group? Don't know😀 Enjoy! –Interphace"

Wow, looks fresh. Welcome back Andromeda.
I think the mirroring effect is a bit overdone, but overall this is a fantastic demo! I really liked the fractal zoom and the music at the point when the melody first starts.
Great to see Andromeda back! Very stylish demo, looking forward to seeing more stuff from them in the future!
Interphace. Send over the .mod please.
Balls!
Excellent!
Yeah, welcome back, somehow.
Fun soundtrack and the demo is cute, I like the last bit with the ballsssss
lovely stuff lads <3 sending remote hugs n thx for putting a smile on me face :)
Nice!
Fresh effects there, good job fellas. Good gfx and i dig the tune, some samples i would maybe change to something else, myself (least with 100% stereo sep). I did heard about something coming up long ago, but had forgotten it (lol) so was a nice surprise after all!
Andromeda has nice big balls!
I LOVE it! Great one.
Love the fluid balls. And nice kaleidoscope-effects.
Interphace <3
rulez 30
epic!
Wow, just wow! Many fresh ideas, great music and gfx! + surprise factor! Welcome back! =)
the zoom fx is awesome!
Stylish!
I really like this soundtrack. Is there a MP3 of it?
Great demo, good music nice effects. Thumbs up!
you old farts still can do it! :)
What a revival, nice to see you are not rusty at all guys ;-)
You can easily raise the standards of Amiga demo coding.

A decent and smooth production. I like the music with its melancholic
touch and the mellow arpeggio pattern in the background.
The step-by-step manifestation of the Andromeda symbol at the
beginning and the kaleidoscope effect is nice to watch.
What I don't like is the repulsive third eye creature.

Great tempo, amazing pixelart and fitting soundtrack. Given how overused by the demoscene these simple automaton-based visuals are, kudos for coming up with a selection of scenes that are uniformly fresh and good-looking.
@Hyde: For Crapbox 7 I recrunched your demo with cranker -m -d cinema. It's 60k smaller, loads up to ~3x faster and gets a progress bar that way. Titanic's original idea was great, but on certain OS versions Titanics can cause the drive motor to go off on on all the time, resulting in abysmally slow loading. Also the drive motor can stay on while the demo is running.
@Hyde: Please, sink that Titanics cruncher! Jekyll was right. :]
Thanks for releasing a final version.
Thanks for releasing a final version.
nice
Awesome production! Effects, gfx and music are all top shelf!
Andromeda always rocks :)
.
Nice.
this was really great
Truly beautiful kaleidoscope effects. How about updating that Casio you've tormented us with since the 90's, Lord Interphace? And Archmage, that's your Amiga comeback after all those amazing C64 pictures, that poor man's Giger chap/crap with a hole on his head and an eye bubbling from his hand?
To put it in a sober and less of a dick way, the music lacks energy and the lead sounds are very basic, even toyish, which reminds me of the cheap synthesizer demotunes back in the day - and the music in some of the old Andromeda Amiga demos, which lacked punch.
This tune sounds like there's not much going on in the patterns apart from notes. It's mechanical even when it gets very melodic, and to be honest, catchy. I kind of get what Interphace is trying to do here, maybe having a bit more detail and character in handling those lead and bass instruments wouldn't work at all with the synthwave arrangement. It still comes off as lifeless. For example after the buildup and even changing the drum beat to double-time nothing really intensifies in the last part. There's no subtle changes in the pulse of the bass. Sounds like there's the same volume handling throughout and very little shaping of sounds to accentuate the rhythm. But again, it might be totally what Interphace is trying to do here and it just isn't my thing at all. To my ears it still sounds a bit undertracked, even "Karstenish" in terms of handling the samples, which the art of making .MOD music is mostly about. Not a bad tune though.
Like I mentioned before, the kaleidoscopes look fantastic. This is the kind of effect that will always look appealing. You don't have to tell to the uninitiated what they're looking at or why it should be considered impressive, which is pretty rare in demos for older computers when you think about it. The same cannot be said on the isometric split screen which drags on for almost half a minute. Another similarly unfortunate pairing is the monochrome chaos zoomer or whatever and the colorful balls at the end of the demo.
Archmage, who has made tons of really impressive graphics on the C64 during the last few years doesn't quite reach the same level when returning to the Amiga. The different dithering methods (horizontal lines, "chess board" of 2 different color schemes to blend them together) on the biomechanical third eye character with a hole on his forehead, already familiar from Archmage's C64 graphics, aren't that successful.
The image itself of this rough and dirty looking fella seems visually out of place in a demo that has a mixture of simple and clean visual imagery, line vectors, isometric shapes, retrowave and all that. Looks more like a filler than a carefully placed image, even though it is some sort of a continuation to the title screen where the third eye is still intact, hinting at a narrative. Not very appealing image, this latter one, but it's ok... but hey, it's by Archmage so the standards are very high.
The same can be said about the demo itself, because it's an Andromeda demo. Some unexpected goodness was missing apart from the fact that it was a comeback demo.
That's why a piggy.

unexpected goodness isn't a feature, but a gift.
andromeda on A500 in 2021, totally awesome!
Stylish
Andromeda, we missed you! Love quality and overall light style.
What tempest said about the soundtrack - it's nice composition wise but it just sounds lackluster (not the Finn) IMHO. The effects, especially the bubbles at the end, more than make up for it tho :)
i have to disagree with tempest regarding the pictures.
I think they are a strong point of the demo as they put the whole fractals/symmetry/pattern scheme into a larger context, hinting at some mysterious world where evil humans loose their mind by the mathematical forces they can't control. or something :)
The images ooze with style and remind me of great european comic masters like Moebius et al. - the rougher dithering rules hard and emphasizes the artistic vision.

Every demo has faults, usually a lot. I find the music undersignificant, but it does in no way spoil it.
I'd have a lot to complain about in the code department, not much being realtime here would be the biggest gripe.
Get past celebrity worship and "for a group like... I expected more", just take every demo for what it is.
In my opinion demos should be as disconnected as possible, audiovisual sculptures - and reliant on nothing but themselves.
Context reliance, referentiality, style and worship of past glory kill the art.
This one does it right, who cares if it's Andromeda. :-)

I guess I'll always have the problem with Andromeda demos that I compare everything with the Amiga AGA demonstration Nexus 7. And nothing can compete with that. Even the beginning was simply epic and incomparable. RULE 30 is well done, but unfortunately that doesn't change much about my problem ... ;-)
I heard on The Party 1994 days before the democompo that Andromeda was working on something. No one had seen the members because they were busy at the hotel. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the evening when the demos would be shown. The atmosphere was totally emotionally charged, you can't reproduce that, no matter how good the next demo or the one after that might be ...

Oh yes
Hyde: Thanks for the MOD music file! :)
Heroes of the past delivered a neat prod once again. Not so powerful as we know you're capable of, but hell - great to have old names releasing new products! Welcome back!
Oh really nice stuff!
awesome.
I am always amazed to see people come up with new fresh ideas on OCS and other old machines. The fade effects and the hexagonal kaleidoscope are great. Very well done with an extremely atmospheric tune that immediately takes you back to the days when Amiga was new.
Great jobs people, congrats !
A pleasant come back. The standard set by Andomeda back in the days was high. I hope this will be springboard for new high level productions.
Cool
I like it, the effects (especially the swarming balls), the graphics and also the soundtrack. When I read tempest's comment...
...I had to laugh out loud. If you don't know what he means, find some tunes by Soundtracker inventor Karsten Obarski and you understand. So the soundtrack here is Karstenish, but catchy enough that I'm looking forward to hearing a remix by someone.

Kaleidos and collinding balls are nice !
Beautiful! Got that modern vibe of PC demos! Amazing work!
Sørlandspaddene kan det fortsatt <3
great
Wooow! What a cool demo! Amd I just love the tune! I really hope you guys will make more demo's in the years to come and please, please: stick to OCS.
awesome! great flow, colours, style! feels fresh!
rly super cool!!
love it
Missed this one. Interesting & well crafted.
>>> Love it @@++ Crazy music !
Great comeback!
If you're serious, keep releasing for the platform you love.

It was inspiration for C64 "2 shades of Gray": https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=92124
WOW!
Nice comeback, now please do it again :)
Nice
good
Great demo. Thumbs up!
Cant be serving home runs every time. This is a pretty nice demo (the balls part is nice and enjoyable) but over all bit of a let down considering the level of both style and programming on the OCS these days. Still, glad people are having fun doing something they enjoy, hence the thumbs up. The music sounds like an incomplete mod from 1994, finished hastily in 2016, but thats OK, works for the style of the demo.
really love the parts with the flowing streams of balls. nice work!!
great demo!
This ticks all my boxes. Nice effects, stunning graphics and great music! Sets me in that oldschool demo mood without being a copy of oldschool prods!
I really like how this has an organic vibe to it.
How did I miss this? Really liked it, the particles being the high point. Ad astra, ad infinitum!
What can I say more... this demo is just great, music makes the job :)
The first kaleidoscope effect is OK. The rest is incredibly meh, especially the music (which sounds like a run-off-the-mill ProTracker mod from the 90s).
Gorgeous!
We watched this demo at last Momentum meeting, it caused a burnout on some recently resoldered components on the board of zeroshift's Amiga. Kept running while the computer was smoking. Respect.
Overall good demo, but I agree with Sesse
