Forget a scene.org award, this should get a Nobel prize. The blur really tricks the brain into thinking it's CGI, if the quality didn't do so already.
I found myself thinkning "it's nice but they need a few more effects" then I remembered that it's a 4k ;). Very nice landscapes, but the music is so-so. 4k's sure has developed a bit since last year (even though I still think Atrium holds up well compared to this one - it has more action, better music and more variation compared to Elevated). Still, definitely a thumb up. I'm sure had I seen it at BP I wouldn't had anything but positive remarks ;D.

Looks like some procedurally generated textures stuck on a simple (generated) meshl to me... Not that I could do it, but what about some three-dimensional objects?
If this was 40mb I'd still be thumbing it up. I love generated landscapes, especially when they're of this quality.

Optimus: It DOES take a load of precalc time (30-50 seconds on my 3GHz E8400) so make sure to wait long enough

iq, as you wrote, the tune is fantastic. but the visual beams are unsynchronized sometimes with the tune, and they are too simple to be just shown around the sky. what about some waves around snow places? if you have time for some synchronization and for better rendering, please, make final version.

Also, I think this is comparable to the feeling I got the first time I saw the flyover sequence from "Hunt for 7th October" at the No Limits and IMP666 party. It gave me the same feeling as I got from viewing this.

i must admit i was kind of underwhelmed watching this during the compo. it had great direction and cool visuals and everything but felt like a small step from what we had seen before. it took me several reviews to see its whole beauty. within the boundaries of 4k the direction is not great but outstanding, the music is so atmospheric and uplifting, the pictures are rendered so beautifully and there is attention to detail in every single aspect.

great production, but while for some, it was a fantastic intro, for me it was a scary prospect - what you see here is about 10% of what those two are capable of.
I want final version, as in Atrium "final", with a proper setup dialog, including a resolution selector and other nifty options. I know that i want more that you can give to me, but good intro must have antialiasing or multisampling selector.

This definitely set the bar. Perhaps so high that it's going to take a long while until anyone can even equal, or not to mention surpass Elevated. Technically astounding, visually both realistic and soothing at the same time. Even the soundtrack that felt first bit too cheerful, has grown on me during the time - perhaps Jarresque chord progression has something to do with it...

First solution to fix it: It requires 3rd party DLL's in the same directory which I don't got with the OS and drivers so it won't run. People don't usually ship their demos without DLL files required to run the demo. Total size: NOT 4k.
Asking users to get 99% of the demo (size-wise) online is LAME.
And also: Requiring me to become administrator to install some DLL is BAD CODE. I'm not doing that. Only lamers and windows users run their OS in administrator mode. A coder that assume their users are lamers is also a LAMER.
As a PC Demo though (with the DLL in the same dir as the exe): HUGE HUGE thumbup.

iq: I'm _totally_ in error here. I falsely assumed that this DLL came with the graphics driver and thus was one of those in the DX sdk (i.e. non-standard stuff). I updated my DirectX and now the intro runs fine.
I'm very sorry, and unfortunately there's no edit function for the thumb.

'elevated' is for 4k, what '.produkt' was for 64k. Only btter.

For me this is truly one of the best releases in the scene in years. I dropped out of the scene in 1995, so for me this is the most interesting thing Ive seen since then. Absolutely lovely.

How could I forget to thumb it? I was at BP09 and this intro together with Jesus Christ Motocross demo were absolute highlights of the party.

This struck me like a lighting back then. I remember how I bored all the (non scener) people at my birthday party to death trying to explaing what 4096 bytes are and why this is cool! No idea where my thumb was until know, but I remember dancing to the music at the last BP :-)

The target platform clearly states "windows", and not PC or Amiga. The way to access graphics hardware in windows is either through OpenGL or DirectX. These guys chose DirectX, so your arguments are invalid, mccnex.

Wait, it's a windows prod using libs that were default for anyone who knew what "GPU" meant when it was released. A 4k in the windows world is just a lot different than on amiga or dos; it still means designing for the size and packing a lot - definitely size coding. (well, maybe a bit less with crinkler around)

Win7 crinkler 1.4 recompressing either the original or the Win7 version now works on Win7 with latest Nvidia drivers (314.22) with the following command line:
"crinkler /crinkler /recompress demofile.exe" where demofile.exe is the elevated demo executable. It will overwrite the original file.
I also needed to run the recompressed file in XP SP3
compatibility mode (if not, crash) and disable aero (if not, black screen with sound only).

One of the best things ever created on and for personal computers.
One of my favourite productions of all time even though I have never been able to get it to run on my machine. The scenery and lighting stands up as high quality even if you don't count the fact that it was made in 4k. Beautiful and also technically impressive. Combine all this with IQ sharing so much and giving so much to the community in tutorials and technical details. Of course not forgetting what Mentor has contributed as well. This is what the demo scene is about.
Even 5 years later this production still impresses. How they got it in 4k I'll never understand!

just bought a new win7 system 64 bit with 630 NVidia card, I "crinkled" it, but doesnt work, thoughts on needed files. drivers etc?

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this prod already. One of the all-time greats. When I want to explain to someone what a demo is, I show them this, and then tell them that it's smaller than an empty .doc file. A masterpiece.

I think the loader is fine, actually. With Wine 5.0.3, the entry decompresses and launches just fine. But the D3D9 implementation still isn't ready for it; on a clean WINE, you get an unspecified ”HLSL parse error”, and if you pull in d3dcompiler_47 via winetricks (wine d3dcompiler_47), you get graphics where the landscape is all flat. Somehow, the camera still moves, though, so I guess there's something broken in interpreting the vertex shader outputs or something.
Also, after 12 years, I have to admit I was wrong. This intro is amazing :-) You already have my thumb-up, though.

More info: If you also do winetricks d3dx9_43, it starts and (seemingly, to my eyes) plays perfectly. WINE's own D3DX implementation has only a stub for D3DXTessellateNPatches(), so no wonder it becomes flat :-)
