AMAZING ! Really great job again by TBL !!! ---- Nice GFX - Nice CODE -- Nice Music ! -- NICE ALL :) ------ La moutarde c'est fort ! ----- Love From Amigaland !
missed to thumb up sorry :(
Really great, like the soundtrack by Yolk!!! Keep on rockin' !!!!
TBL ownz. Ballet-dancer ninja girl makes you happy.
So a beautiful sound and nice gfx. I only can say excellent!
Btw. where can I grab the music file ;) ?
Btw. where can I grab the music file ;) ?
Sometimes this demo looks like made of scraps of previous TBL demos. Anyway, i like it. This voxel stuff is strange...
Meh. Just rehashed stuff and some of the scenes looked were so chunky I thought they were in textmode. Music was ok in part, but got repetetive and annoying.
Personally i think Loonies kicked your ass this year!

TBL did it again a Winning one ;o))
Another classic :) Great work AGAIN by tbl.
=Winnerdemo
This is nowhere close to Silkcut. The new voxelengine may be technically nice, but it looks very ugly. And is the demo even using all 256 colors? Many scenes look like they just use 16.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm very surprised this won.

Nice work guys! You beat us AGAIN! :)
.. now I have no choice but to kick your ass in football this summer!

Was really nice. Just the landscape with the clouds, that didn't do it for me. Great prod again.
This was equally or even more enjoyable than most of the PC demos presented at Breakpoint 2005!
just hyvä
The usual tbl quality.
Blocky & Slow Voxels + Graphic errors in the Cubes-part + Reusing Ideas = Thumbs down for Namevoting.
The Music was ok. But Loonies was far better this time. Sorry guys.

it was really cool... the blocky voxels looked awsome on the big screen ;)
Well yeah the voxel-parts were kind of crossing the thin line between 'impressive for technical reasons' versus 'this does not look good' but the rest of the show I liked. Next to that, killer soundtrack.

Great atmosphere! The voxel-parts are very impressive! And the music is really fantastic! The graphics by louie are very good too. Looking for the final version. Congratulations, pals!
Loved the music, great atmosphere through out. Technically stunning and she dances now! that was excellent.
Me and Nolver got it screener-style with camcorder on pricegiving ceremony, will try to get it online soon. BTW really good effects, in fact the 3d voxels looked great!!!
TBL shows its true face. Clearly a TBL demo which is up to Rain's standard again.
TBL did it again, awesome stuff (otherwise the topics are getting boring). Thanx for seeing this high Amigastandards every year...
Great work with no doubt but the Loonies demo was better i.m.h.o. And of course this demo was 10 times more interesting than the most shown pc demos!!
I second Ghandy. Although a very great Demo with some sexy effects I kinda liked the loonies one a bit better. Great nonetheless.
The pacing makes up for the voxels imho. This looked very, very nice.
Superb scenes and amazing quality of music, graphics and code, but fails to be the best demo ever because of the general lack of design coherency.
Yolk, damn you, where's the female voice sample from... I haven't been sleeping two days now to find out where I've been hearing that one before!

Very nice beginning, usual 3d code by TBL, at least the voxel scenes were something interesting (not always looking good though, perhaps some noise would hide the bad elements (Like in the Noxie intro)).
Slick
WOW, WOW and WOW!
maybe it has some glitches but it simply rocked designwise.
really great stuff
really great stuff
The dancing is not motion captured. Repeat, the dancing is not motion captured. Holy shit.
Technically impressive voxels (the coder in me again says: Holy shit), but they do look a bit ugly.
IMHO, better than silkcut. I can't decide whether i liked this or loonies more, which is why I voted them both "rules" at the party ;-)
Are the credits supposed to end so abruptly?

great demo as usual, but i'm starting to get that swedish feeling of "för mycket av det goda"...
This was the highlight of the indoor party.
Oh this is... this is... ah hell, thumbs up! ;)
five me the music, please
Just goddamn awesome... respect!
RUKES BIGTIME
only seen it in an emu running very slowly, and it still ruled. I need that video :)
great stuff.... nice soundtrack..
a-n-i-m-a-c-j-a
:D
nice one indeed. there's something to tbl and the imagery of women - and for some reason, they can incorporate that really good in their demos.

rock! and awesome to see yolk back!
Amazing.
If you want to see a really nice voxelengine, and probably the motivation for this demo, check out ken silvermans voxlab:

Ken silverman is the guy who coded the Duke Nukem 3D engine when he was 17.

check out the completely wicked manually animated dancing queen. the voxel scenes are technically impressive but don't really appeal that much to me. a couple of them look great though.
roxxorus
again.
we've been quite uplevelled when we watched this demo. when that dancing girl came, i was shouting "WAS!?!?! HALLO WAS!?"
tudor kicks ass with the animated dancer and kalms and rubblo kicks ass with some excellent full 3d voxels! Nice to see some effects again :)
fuckings for being better than mawi.
OMFG!!
yolk i wanna bare your children!
yolk i wanna bare your children!
Admittedly better than the Loonies demo. Super lovely with a BRILLIANT soundtrack.
voxels, music, graphics. all very ace.
after a few crashes i got to see the whole demo. the voxel scenes dont look too good to me, but the rest of the demo looks neat, like a tbl's greatest hits show
tbl takes amiga to another level
Completely great demo. Just a shame that TBL relies so heavily on 3D modelling. Without good 3D source material their demos would be a bit.. well, they wouldn't win. :) Or so it would seem anyway. That's probably why it was so nice to see the voxel scenes, even though they were really blocky and not entirely beautiful - finally a new effect. ;) But yeah, excellent dancing ninja. Boobs could have been bigger.
Silkcut was my favorite amiga demo until last weekend, now you got me again, great :D
actually, as i mentioned to the tbl guys after the compo, this demo is way too boring. i mean.. it suffers from the same problem as so many demos did in the change from old school to new school.. we KNOW you can do technical stuff, now add some more kickass design :)
and that's why the only scene in this that really did it for me was the one in the screenshot.
and that's why the only scene in this that really did it for me was the one in the screenshot.
Superdemo! The soundtrack is fantastic and the voxels are way cool, the best I've ever seen on 68k. If one should pinpoint something not perfect, it would be the transitions which sometimes are a bit rough. But gotta love this one !
now, just a question..
how come that the voxel engine has the same bugs as the polygon engine? just bad precision perhaps but still sounds a bit odd for a voxel engine (bugs are on big areas, voxel bugs shouldnt have that, right?).
and, why doesnt they animate the voxel? whats the point in making voxel if you dont fuck up the geometry? its not like its a nice rendering style (if you want abstract rendering have a look at the yodel demo - 32 shades blabla..)...
otherwise than this mysterious "voxel" engine, wich looks like crap and doesnt do anything fun (exept for some palettefading - or maybe thats just because the low bpp it looks like that.. uehrm)...
ok, ehrm, music was rather funny graphics where ok.
=piggy

There's just too much in it that does not work for me (the dancer, the voxels...) to give it a honest thumb up.
Each years, TBL enhaces, in search of perfection. The only last year weakness were (in silkcut):
- 3D characters were too static.
- no experimental code (what TBL does best).
... so this year, we got an outstanding voxel technique, and a "skinned" character, implying the move of some phusic object.
T00 1337 !!

This is how PC demos should look like :) Soundtrack is far away from anything!
here goes
the best production on party!! great bonus stuff :)
I must start using that kind of managment application.
And the best of all - tudor, yolk - you're back!!

wait... the dancer doesn't work for you? What? Ok I'm going to go over here and shake my head. Also, rulz0r.
great, amiga rulez ^^ . but why taking the credits picture from Macross Plus ^^
very very nice - pc sceners; LEARN HOW TO DESIGN A DEMO!
gloom: sorry, but good (i'd say majestic) scene design doesn't always reflect in good general demo design.
Also, I can't see how the platform could affect the sense for artistic direction and graphic composition. Expecially since this has been coded on a emulator.

over the top!
yes gloom, this is what we need.

quite nice but somehow left me cold. The music was nice, the voxel stuff was good, so were the cubes (i'm just a sucker for that kind of stuff) but the chick, for example, didn't do anything for me and the overall 'design' and direction was rather lame.
Maybe i'll need to watch it a few times more.
Maybe i'll need to watch it a few times more.
Great one :). That voxel thingie was great, mixing colors in a fantastic way.
the black lotus always gives me hope for the amiga as a legendary demo platform moving forward, and this is no exception
the voxels are great. overally, the demo has a nice atmosphere, though it is not extraordinaly coherent when it comes to graphics design. the music glues everything together, giving the world another solid tbl demo.
Clever use of voxels!
absolutely massive!
this demo was reason enough to visit breakpoint (beside the pokemon mini demo of course)
i forgot to vote
i forgot to vote. Yolk - please give us a link with the music! :)
massive!!
very smooth stuff
This is da --------! oh you know :) !!!! ROX !
PROD 16337 MEANS EL1TE IN 1337 SPEAK !
Yolk: any chance that I have heard the tune before? I really had that sample in my head (and so did Florent, for instance). Koneisto perhaps?
mindblowing.
A great production and it uses definitly more than 16 colors!
Cool greetings scene. Demo rulez of course..
Thank you! With you releasing demos at BP it's worth the trip to Germany EVERY time.
It seems like you have done some refining on your code, though I only saw it on the big screen untill yet.
It seems that that 3d-scenes run faster (nice) - and it seems that you use a larger area on the screen for showing (that area was quite small at some places in Silkcut)
favourite stuff: the dancing girl (of course), the greetings part, that sadly ended to abruptly and the credits with "Ancient machine" :D.
Make my trip the next many years aswell - please :)

light, technical and cute.. dancer woman part is a revolution as for me..
great followup to silkcut.
great. but reuses some parts from last year
first off. yolk rules.
so does tbl - it's rare when you get the same feeling as a kid when you watched a great demo for the first time..
i can't understand how someone can even compare this to the loonies demo..
btw, some inspiration from incontruct.com? ;)
i love you.

Awesome work by TBL ... as usual. :)
inconstruct.com that is.
A very nice demo from TBL as usual, awesome looking voxels. The music is great too, but those intentional sound bugs towards the end annoy the fuck out of me. I thought it was a bug in the compo but the mp3 has the exact same errors. it would have been better without them imo.
Magic, wonderful to see TBL doing some intressting code again, the voxels rule so much it hurts, so so beautiful. The scenes where also very nice, and hearing that the girl scene was actually not a motion capture in unbelivible. Great effort.
Nice piece of code.
The phrase: "Mustard is strong and that's why it's good" told in french sounds rather odd in the context.

Awesome!
I really liked the voxel engine and the dancing girl scene.

There is a "bug" at 6:14 in the mp3 :(
In fact the dancing girl is made with a realtime bones engine.
excellent demo.
Just rocks.

Very good. Not as good as Silkcut, but it's stupid to keep heights so yeah, great.
@windenntv:
Modelled on a realtime bones engine, perhaps ;). But her framerate doesn't really match that of the rest of the scene. That was pretty obvious in the compo. Still haven't found out if it was running on UAE or an Amiga then.

Really impressive. Everything is enjoyable and its a fantastic track by Yolk.
just great
3D is over....voxel this... :D
guess a new "tree-compo" will start now...
again a masterpiece and ultrafitting tune.

I actually didn't like this. Why?
Well, the voxels didn't look so good at close range, the music wasn't to my taste, and the 3D scenes (except for the floating Dali-esque city, the dancer, cubes and greets) were kinda ugly.
All in all, I much prefer Silkcut and its bitchin' electrosound track.

Massive shit. It felt a bit like Silkcut v1.1 on the compo, but after a few watches I must say I now prefer this to its predecessor. Even if the landscape in Silkcut did look better. Yolk's wonderful soundtrack deserves an extra mention. My 2nd favourite Amiga entry, second only to Funktion. :)
Oh, and the feeling Chavez mentioned.. I got that too.

dr_doom: I recall kalms told me at bp05 that it was realtime
aber hallo!
demo rules... and nice to finally hear some good music from yolk again! double thumbs from me!
will there be a windows-port with a nice framerate? as far as i could see from the included project screenshot, whole thing was coded on a pc anyway, just replacing the video/sound output and it should work on pc?!

respect by the pound. this rocked.
wonderful stuff. really.
winden: it could be, but then it's just very odd that the dancer isn't rendered as often as the surroundings :)
Still the best part in the demo though, because of the quality of the animation.

the black lotus quality :]
Silkcut is still undethroned though imho :)
Silkcut is still undethroned though imho :)
dr_doom: probably this can't be clearly seen on the video (i got only 030 amiga thus only got video version). Anayways, these type of tricks are possible and indeed used sometimes... if mesh-with-bones is too costly to calculate (which may indeed be if each vertex has to be mixed from multiple matrixes), you can spread the calculation over 2 rendering frames. Have a look at some kangaroo intro/demo from around 1998, 1999 or 2000, there was a metaballs effect which did similar things.
Not bad, but i still prefer silkcut (and tint) :)
bartman: Are you insane!?!? That would be like saying "There's no point in doing demos on newschool amigas. No new demos do anything with the amigahardware, so they could just as well be simple sw-rendered demos for old PCs"....
and ofcourse, the voxels dont look that nice, but DAMN do I like'em anyway!
and ofcourse, the voxels dont look that nice, but DAMN do I like'em anyway!
nice work again from tbl. after d0Dge describes me the coding problems when using voxels i understand why it hits the first place. but i think the most non-coders will not understand those 3D voxel worlds... and they do not look very pretty
The music rocks bigtime, and the voxel effect is ugly but cool.
Though: TBL have done demos like this for years now. Yeah, there are a few improvements like the skinned/y dancer with fake ribbon physics, but this cant hide the fact that apart from marginal improvements it was the same color scheme, the same landscapes, the same design and the same female low-poly model for years now. And honestly, I don't understand people applauding wildly for a 50-polygon object with a prerendered sky cube around it; everyone should perfectly know that the Amiga is capable of pulling that off.
Still a thumb up this time, but presumably the last one if things won't change in one way or the other.

Great work, the music is really awesome! And the voxel scenes are cool. About the dancer, although ribbons are faked the result is very nice to look at.
Really nice, but I've to agree with kb in some points, as I expected something "new"
lovely prod, imresses from the first view. it's quite different from previous demos: there is no tbl zoom, the new voxel engine, fantastic animated model, etc., seems that tbl read the opinions about prevous prods ;)
yolk made excellent soundtrack, the tbl music style changed too: from industrial (as in p.circle, l.nell, silkcut) to ambient/new age.
only credits looks a bit empty, but they fit the music, and then OK.

all i have to say is - wonderful music! soundtracks with a mood like this are so rare these days. the rest is quite entertaining but not very coherent. great conclusion-scene.
totally agreeing with kb.. (and btw: more stupid was the applauding for the cubes-scene with the prerendered global illumination and fake(!!!) realtime-soft-shadows)
the voxel-renderer was nice although..
the voxel-renderer was nice although..
toxie, ever occured to you that sometimes people applaud because something just looks good, and don't give a shit about how hard is it to code? :)
some really nice, atmospheric parts + a not so nice voxelpart (well, amiga has it's limits) + kickass music (haven't heard that good in a demo for long).
following the same cookbook as tbl uses for years, some might like it, some not. i do.

Impressive.
winden: definatly not bones (why would anyone want to do that in such a situation), but tweening ofcourse. And not that much of a problem to interpolate those 500-800 vertices.
tbl back to the roots !
nice to see some new effect on amiga.
nice to see some new effect on amiga.
chavez: as speaking for myself: i don't think a couple of cubes (uni-colored) is very sexy.. nor was the animation or anything else in this scene.. :)
toxie: well, i think that it is very pretty... i already had a similar picture printed and on my wall from inconstruct.com .. :) (which i printed a couple of years ago.. )
I've seen this dancer in too many demos already, but the soundtrack just rulez...
Excellent demo once again... Great animation, great music, great style.
style
Note/Hint: I sortof hope that if this demo was Ocean Machine, the next will be Strapping Young Lad ;D
Perfect Circle, Little Nell, Magia, Silkcut and Ocean Machine are all names of bands, mostly rock... Now I just wonder if that's intentional, or if rock bands happen to draw from the same sources when looking for names as TBL does. Time to inspect the record... erm mp3 collection of the TBL members :)
Kalms: nice. But you know, everyone has a realtime bones engine these days. ;) Look at Heartcore. I thought it was so trivial that mine is only shown for three seconds. So hah!
Anyway, remember that next year we want you to show off your 3D modeller's (impressive) skills a little less and put some more effort into original code. Maybe experiment with a different style, cause it's getting a bit hard to tell your demos apart.
Also, TBH, the faking in Ocean Machine was too obvious to be interesting. Like the pretextured box scene. It was pretty in itself (but then, softshadows on an entirely off-scene usually is), but when the other boxes moved under the arch you just added the shadows onto the prerendered ones on the floor texture. Really :). You could've played around with some shadetables or something to get proper blending. And the low (256x256?) resolution on the skybox in the first effect sort of ruined the feel of the scene, i think. It was much too clear what was part of the skybox and what wasn't.
I've decided that my favourite part is the voxel scenes, despite the fact that they're pretty ugly. It's the best part because it's the first time in years I've seen something really new from TBL.
So, consider that _constructive_ criticism. :) It's really a great demo.

.. of course, "off-scene" in the above was supposed to read "off-white scene". So there.
even though some of the voxelscenes looks like an accident, this demo really rocks bigtime. i love the voxel-code, and the first(?) voxel-part (the abstract, we cell-ish blob) :)
dixian: even though i see your point in your comment above, the sad fact still remains - most pc sceners can't design diddly squat. it seems it's a way of thinking, an "amiga mentality", that prevails, even though most amiga prods nowadays seem to be coded in winuae :)
Read the Making of "Ocean Machine" in Jurassic Pack #14 !!

here it is:

The voxels were cool, but the rest was just a big mish-mash of random scenes. Or so it appeared to me, anyway. :)
Cool code, though!
Cool code, though!
great one. i mean, the amiga demo compo was much better than the pc one.
amigaaaaa amigaaaaaa amigaaaaaaaaa! :)
amigaaaaa amigaaaaaa amigaaaaaaaaa! :)
great ideas and design. rulez.
that tune is just that ubershit! also cool voxels and nice character animation. somehow to me this had some really nice 'metal gear solid'-ish touch..
Scali, check out the game Motorhead from Digital Illusions ;)
good code, but quite boring.
Nice demo but I like SilkCut more. 8)
Hmm, simply great !
Music makes it even greater ... that's style, for good !
Did i mention the music is absolutely damn sexy cool ?

a killer demo!!
it's like "i know, this is going to rock" and then while the demo is running on is still surprised. respect!
Its nice and well done, liked silk cut more though. Anyway great work.
Oh my fucking god.
Must comment again, the music is just awesome. Would love the music as a download to stick in my play list :)
But i'm just stupid and missed the link listed above for the music ;p
Wow! That's almost perfect ;) This is my new favourite.
Kalms: maybe I'll just put some complete 3d scenes in my own voxel engine (which is better than yours, mind you) and add perspective and integrate it with my realtime bones engine (which is better than yours, mind you). Then I'll put naked chicks on a skybox and make them dance, state-of-the-art style, to some SID music, while the whole thing spins around a C= logo. And you'll lose so hard you won't stop crying for weeks. ARRHAHAHAHAHAA!!
Can I give a second thumb ?
@doom: I'm sorry if this sounds offensive but i'd really like to see some demos from you (I've been out of amy scene for 7 years...)

XD it has been about 9 years since my last coding-war XD
after rewatching this demo and the previous kalms-rubber-tbl-demos i think i was wrong in saying that this is not one of their best demos. actually it IS one of their best demos, even if it has the same style since years (don't we all have our same style?). if the people like this style...who cares? they still shout loud when this kind of demos run. :)
anyway as hundret times said before: the voxel is ugly, but hell of good code, too, so it rulez. i loved the first voxel object most. looked better than the other voxel scenes. ah, and the beginning, when the girl opens her eyes...that was cool.
anyway it has some new code in it, nice and well done 3d scenes, demo-like scenes/objects which make no sense but look cool (much demos has that and we love that demos.. ;) and of course F#?*@G GOOD MUSIK!
and everyone who's talking shitty about this demo seems to have complex to be not able to do that kind of stuff by his own. you guys rule and you bastards know that pretty well.. ;)

seems i have voted already.
awesome music.
awesome music.
btw, thanx for the 25fps video
It's one of the best demo on amiga, you did a great job guys ! I like the cube scene, the last voxel scene, greetings part, all in all i like everything.
I hope to release a new demo for 2006 with all my unrealased stuff, really thank you for all great demo and motivation that you give me

The best TBL demo since Rain, closely followed by Silkcut. One thing though: this is still a collection of superb parts which don't really seem to glue together that well. I hope to see a TBL demo based around one design/theme/story whatever. Otherwise, fab music, fab visuals, fab code. The greetings scene is the best part.
@Jamie: would that be an Amiga release? Would be fantastic to see such a talented coder/team competing against the cream of the amiga scene again.

The same recipe but i like it too. The greetings was especially cool.
thumbsup.
this is strange, despite obvious similarities with their previous demos, Ocean Machine manages to surprise and impress once again // that said, this is really not my cup of tea, not the style i dig, neither i'm too excited about gfx and musik all in all [not speaking of the quality but taste here]
TBL's demos just clearly got a strong personality! -- respect!
Yeah baby! Not TBL's best demo ever, but still a pretty darn fine production. And I just love the tune!
I also liked the greetings part. But the voxels are really too ugly for my taste, except for the last scene. Still rulez of course :)
I Lve the song !!
I guess the voxels were rendered at the best manner that was possible on Amiga remaining real-time.
La moutard... c'est tres fort...

impressive as usual
Did i mention how much i absolutely love the tune? it's so damn good it hurts.

Good demo, but has a minor flaws. Music is a bit repetitive at the middle of demo (best is the piano at the end)...Used voxels are really ancient and very ugly...
Silkcut and Magia was better, but still thumbing this up
Silkcut and Magia was better, but still thumbing this up
One of my favourites ;o)
Dont know what I should say against this demo.. I have rarely found demos with such a great atmosphere. Kalms and co, come and make demos on Atari ;)
Interesting comments..
I really love the music, listening to it lately, downloading it again now..

I've been wondering about one thing concerning the dancing character. It seems that the character is animated using rigid skinning, so that there is no interpolation across the joints, and cuts appear (like at the hips) when they are bent. As far as I've understood, the motion is animated using bones, and then put out as keyframed meshes with interpolation between them. Using this technique it would be possible to use better mesh skinning with decent interpolation. Is rigid skinning the only option available in lightwave or something?
Totally awesome
The girl singing sounds a lot like the girl singing Royksopps song Circuit Breaker, maybe this demo gave her a record contract =)
Great great demo. Kalms is simply amazing.
Only Amiga makes it possible - and of course the great magicians at TBL!
Good job.
Great great stuff. The vocal-hook in the song rocks arse. Lovely.
too lazy to check if i commented on this already, but it totally blew me away in the compo.
This is a great demo, really ...BUT... i think this demo deserve a real 3d hardware 'coz it's fat ass ugly in this loooow resolution :) (okay-okay, it's aga i know. :)
awesome - I like the transformers reference too (only in final version, not the video apparently...)
Almost magia ;)
love you!
so nice and clean design. and i love the music.
Shanethewolf, Exin, Crusader are on the black(lotus)list :) C'mon guys this demo rocx!!!
Really nice.
well, yeah, it's good.. but they need to put a "contains 20% new content" at the start of each demo.
Unbelievable Great Production, Amiga and Black Lotus Rules! Love the Music :)
great production.
superb music and great some scene!
stylish design.
this is cool.

Oh My World!
Shockingly beautiful demo, and the music is just incredible. Thank you and congratulations!
Shockingly beautiful demo, and the music is just incredible. Thank you and congratulations!
This demo has grace. Yolk's awesome music is what sets the mood and the demo follows well. I like it most of the TBL demos I've seen recently and I suspect I'll be liking it for many years to come.
I struggled with what is the underlying "theme" here. Seems that this is more of a poetic demo. Nature, soft forms and abstract.
The voxels could use some precision but I still found myself admiring their beauty, the choral type structure and the perfect ending deserve mention.
I have an urge to mention almost every part of it but I'll refrain from doing so and will just close with saying that the dancer was one of the most beautiful scenes based on the real-world I've ever seen in a demo.
Grace.

Awesome I love the music
software rendering
i've been too lazy to comment this before, but as i re-downloaded this demo
recently i felt: "damn... i'm so jealous!" ;] this stuff is making me all
warm inside, and this is the kinda thing that makes med consider spending
600eur on an accelerated amiga, and hell... add to the equation that i'm an
atarian.
you get the picture, i love this prod. it outrulez the later starstruck demo
which kicked ass too. yolk, you're the man! thanx tbl, looking forward to new
well-designed and well-planned productions!

Definitely one of the favourite Amiga demos – and I really love the soundtrack!
TBL keeps pulling out one classic after another \o/
I want another tumb, for the music...
Ouch ! Music and graphics !!!
wonderful music and great gfx, as expected from tbl! this 3d is AWESOME...
impressive! another tbl quality prod
Have my coup de coeur.....
awesome
I like this even more than Starstruck - and that is one massive demo, too! Brilliant soundtrack!
looking back at this demo, and my previous comment which found its way into starstruck :), ocean machine really does stand out on its own compared to many other tbl releases. yolk's music helps, along with the voxel scenes. i think those voxel parts would be deemed ugly on a pc, but i admire them here, as both a feat of code on the amiga and a middle finger to the pc world of polygons.
Awesome demo (i already thumb upped this months ago), but i was listening to Art Of Chill 3, a great compilation from Platipus.
Well, the Ocean Machine soundtrack is very similarto the 1st track of this Cd, Shulman - First Came The Stars (Bluetech Remix) .
Listen to this track, and tell me what you think ! :)

Next Effects and music <3
Great indeed
absolutely awesome.
the music is simple awesome. really a mood-setter
this demo looks great and the music is amazing.
Beautiful... Just watched this on the Demo or Die DVD.
I didn't like all the voxel scenes (have to agree with the people who found it too blocky and ugly), but hey, it's AGA, and there's enough kickass stuff to make up for it :). Especially Yolk's excellent soundtrack!
Big stupid grin won't go off.....
Thanks again Mikro, and TBL for making it in the first place.
Thanks again Mikro, and TBL for making it in the first place.
for tha falcon port, gonna watch it. asap.
falcon port :)
great soundtrack, I also really like the girl with ribbons scene.
I fucked up the video last night, the audio was not correct (event though I spent hours trying to get it right). I thought it was fine and uploaded it. But found out today it wasn't. Damn phase inversions in the vocals more or less erased it entierly. :)
The video is replaced with a new one now, sorry about that..

one of my favorite demo which I always dreamed to see on falcon. just a bit disapointed for the 50Hz only, I won't be able to see it on my vga :(
Great demo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaamiiiiiiiiiigaaaaaaaa :)
Great demo, great music :)
(and I like the fact the shadow in the cube part has been fixed so it's all smooth - at least in the falcon version)
(and I like the fact the shadow in the cube part has been fixed so it's all smooth - at least in the falcon version)
Extra thumb for the falcon port.
excellent 3D animations of dancing girl
Great demo! Not really much else to say :)
oh, kewl !!
music is sublime, dancer and artwork very stylish..so no complaints :)
isn't the falcon-version (at least the video) totally out of sync?
JESUS CHRIST
Keyboard on head to prove it's not a video!
dodke: first version was, second shouldn't be
great conversion dudes, now what will be the next amiga conversion? :)
Extremly amazing!
Great-
One of my favourite Amiga demos. I'm not an Atari person, but it's cool that they can now share in this prod's goodness.
Hopefully you guy's will get Starstruck...one day ;)

Very nice demo and cute music.
beautiful. An inspiration even.
Outstanding.
Well coded!
still has those a-ha effects even today.
don t like so much how the music theme is going down fast though (just my taste probably).
nevertheless sheer class.

very very nice - pc sceners; LEARN HOW TO DESIGN A DEMO!

especially as the face didnt even fit properly into the demo.
HUUUUUGE disappointment .. still a thumb up worthy demo, but at least just steal the idea and remake into your style instead of just plain stealing of entire material ...
everybody does it
for xeNusion being a pathetic fucking trollface and for not thumbing it up before.. thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Hehe, complaining that TBL "borrows ideas" from others is like complaining about water being wet or Coldplay making shit music :D
Pretty old discussion and I think there are hundreds of demos who borrowed stuff aswell.
its not just about "borrowing ideas" ...
its the lame act of stealing the frames of a video
and not even wasting a second on using a own or free photo...
thats shows just a serious lack of respect
for the work of other artists

the original Nike frames contain a female with two eyes, a nose and a mouth, set against a non-de script background. there was not much "design" there to begin with. for a zero budget independent demo, it's kind of practical to just "rip" those frames rather than hire a model and studio to take your "own" generic photographs?
i think i'm right and xeNusion is wrong.
i think i'm right and xeNusion is wrong.
Haven't thumbed this yet? What's wrong with me? This is one of the most memorable demos I have ever seen. One of my absolute favourites of all time. The music stands on its own. I don't care one bit of the entire plagiarism discussion, this demo is religion to me.
Storm in teacup, since the earliest days demos have ripped stuff. Artwork in particular. Besides, the last scene with the rotating tree and the piano is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a demo.
It's okay to rip if you're TBL, no worries!

making demos without copied gfx sucks, so this rules!
this prod rules, and just for the record: coldplay makes shitty music! (but not nearly as shitty as kane, tho \o/)
and coldplay even rips kraftwerk and still manages to suck!
not the best one from TBL but Jugi's piano is a nice touch on Yolks tune :)
Even if it contains ripped gfx this still is a great piece of demoart!
It´s not ripped... They did it the official way!

Like TBL :D
Like TBL :D
Excellent soundtrack, and heavy voxels for slow 060
Such an enjoyable demo... i love the wonderfully made soundtrack. And once again extra-extra kudos for bringing this to falcon.
Such a professional soundtrack... Every bit of this dreamy demo is instantly lovable!
wow!
Great demo but ridiculous lyrics
A bit slow paced, but the voxels and ribbon are interesting...
Excellent soundtrack, i love it...
i was looking for that soundtrack for a while now.. after hearing it again (funny at it may be) some tears.. etc.. loving this demo!
is it realy about mustard?
As good as only TBL could do! Looks impressive even on emulator.
sure thing. thumb goes where? up!
YESSSSS
While the visuals are great as usual, huge thumbs up for the music. Design-wise this is ace too, love the greetings part.
I like the gravity-defying ribbons, and the great voxel scenes. Nice greets part with the floating hexagons too. The music in the movie Avatar sounds like it was stolen from the endpart of this demo...
Is there a high quality video of this available somewhere? robotriot's links are dead.

One of the best from TBL
Great demo!

love that music
I love listening to that sound and the "la moutarde c'est bon" "la moutarde c'est fort" samples 🙃
with this soundtrack it could be a blank screen throughout the entire demo i'd still upvote it.
Still one of my fav soundtracks and designs of all time. So much amazing detail in this. Ahhhhhh!! <3
Wonderful music and atmosphere.
I hate that voice. Gosh...
Senf ist stark, und deshalb ist es gut!
Love the music.
nice one
waves straight from paradise and angelic voice...
This beat!!!!! Yolk, omg. And the whole flow and visuals are just gorgeous. Doesn't overstay its welcome, a blast.
massive
Music by Yolk is excellent and previously I didn't like the visuals so much, but nowadays I love this demo too=)
Yup!
Amazing demo in such a calm setting, love it.
What settings do I need to run this in WinUAE? Went through a few but all result in software failure so far.
@tari3x: infofile says "AGA Amiga (1200 or 4000), with 68060 including FPU, and 32MB fastmem." you're probably missing the FPU or the memory i would guess.
@psenough: sorry, took me a while to get back to this. Couple of questions:
1. This sounds like a very useful lead, but where do you see that infofile? The txt file in the download says "Real Amiga with 68060, 32+MB fastmem and AGA".
2. What setting does fastmem correspond to? I tried a couple but am getting error 20.

To answer my first question - there's [nfo] in the corner.
Still can't run it though - went through many combinations. Would love to use it for a demoshow - if anyone has any thoughts, would be much appreciated!
