Blocks shown on the screenshot remain black while falling for me. Fast enough on my not-so-old laptop, but I wouldn't say it's "smooth" - ah well, I'll have to try it on some real hardware... As usual, great design, nice music. Loved the oldskool, ST-like unpacking effect, btw. So 80's. ;)

very pretty! congrats on another high quality prod guys =)) the only down point i think is the 4 windows structure (nasty cracktro feeling). it takes the attention from the effects more or less.. for the rest it's great oldschool flavour =)))
4-mat, hard to believe it. A touch from the legend.
And... it crashed. Got an error half way through the loading bar, then when it dropped back to windows, my left-hand monitor stayed black. Very odd too - the cursor appeared fine, but nothing else, and if I dragged a window to that monitor, it turned that black too, and it stayed black even after it was dragged back. Scary spreading blackness! Um.. anyway, probably due to my dual monitor setup or something. Will try it again later, and give a bit more info if it might be a genuine bug.
This is just amazing! I really love the mix between old and new and the soundtrack is just really bloody marvelous!!! :D
psonice: it might be because you had an opengl application running at the same time. Gizmo/FR had this problem because of XSI when I asked him to test a preview.

keops: no opengl apps were running. Just tried again, had the same error, but this time even more weird. If I changed the screen res of the 'black' screen, it would clear the black. But if I changed back to the right res, the black returns. Odd!
Next, I tried with the second screen disabled. Same error. Had to reboot as I couldn't see what I was doing. And to add to the weirdness, the 'loading windows' screen appears on both monitors during boot.. but this time the colours were all wrong on the monitor I ran the demo on. WTF?! This is either the strangest bug since the 'enabling anisotropic filtering causes a motion blur effect on text in normal apps' bug i managed to find ages back, or my video card is about to die!

At least since the reboot when it's closed down (I have to kill it from task manager) I get my screen back :) I'll try it on a brand new, top-of-the-range vista laptop that's sat next to me acting as a decoration (yes, the apps it needs to run don't work on vista, and no drivers for XP, thank you HP!) right now.

Well done guys :) I love it. Well, I know I'll be backward-sounding but the youngest folks here who haven't known the "oldskool scene" namely Amiga/Atari won't probably understand that this kind of stuff was our daily demo dose far from a lot of dark and too much boring/serious nowadays demos.
Maybe this is a sign for 2007 Breakpointers to bring some fun and human feelings in their prod, not just art and 3D performance. FLT made it so brilliant last year :)

the effects looked nice and clean and all but it didnt quite reach me this time. im abit tired of retro-oldskool rehashes. no thumbdown due to the cuteness.
Lovely intro. I felt it was a bit hard to consentrate on the texts as there is so much going on.
psonice: here's a hint - open up a command prompt and hammer in "drwtsn32.exe -i" - this will set DrWatson as the default debugger. run the intro again, and if it crashes, go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson" and send the two files back to keops.

FINALLY got it to run.. on the vista laptop. I think that's the first thing I've managed to get working on vista ;D Well, rulage obviously... infact, if I were to criticise it I'd say there was too much good stuff going on at once. I'm going to have to watch it 4 times, once per screen.

True, we've seen these oldskool thingies before, but like usual it's the little details (which you often don't even spot the first few times you watch it) what makes it better than the rest.

I think a bit like jeenio, it seems quite rushed and the flow is too weird and busy, also there are nice effects and some bad ones, the plasma and another one had ugly colours that didn't fit. But there were some other effects, specially the one on the screenshot, topright that turns this comment to a rulez.

oh, by the way, it stopped on the middle (almost the end), the graphics card seemed like crashed, and then it went back some seconds after. At the end didn't restore the resolution.

Overall nice for an oldskool design prod and has an okayish chiptune but it didn't work as an invitation because the text was inserted in a manner where there was too many things that distract the viewer from it.

I've watched this a couple of times now just to get over the mood of "overly exited" before I comment, but I can hardly help myself. This is just very very good work. A big thanks to Keops and 4-mat(!!!) and Nova for making it happen.

I'd run it a lot, fück this is teh c00lz. Tones of lovely details (as usual, maybe even more this time, heh) and what a great choose of colors. The tune, logo, everything are enjoyable, it moves everywhere, those windows are bouncing. I have a dual monitor and had a little speed issue has wroted in the nfo but nothing that killed the demo. From the screeny I see the chocolate blocks on the left/down but it was black on my machine. (but the rotozoomer worked). Also thanks for making lines of codes from scratch with few requirements, sharp and accurate pixels rulez.

Much better than expected. So many stuff crumbed in here with the Keops oldschool style in such huge extend that I had to run it more than 2 times to check some of the stuff there. And so great oldschool music, colors, gfx, syncs with the blocks, ideas, quite better and more unique than Keops older invtros imho. Ohh,. those 4 windows, I couldn't watch all the effects at the same time, so much stuff, so NEAT stuff!!!

I wish you had imitated the good oldskool stuff instead of the hidiously cute ones with pastel colours, unreadable fonts and sometimes even pixeled teddybears :) To me this is irritating and attractive at the same time, but that's just a matter of taste.

We totally ran out of time and this intro is somehow far from what I originally had in mind. The splitscreen concept lost half its interest here since the intros lacks the real stuff I wanted to include. Shit happens as we say :)
I'm glad most people enjoyed it anyway and thank you for the incredibly cool feedback. We will try to include the former ideas we had in mind in some next prod, without the awkward use of splitscreen mode this time ;)

the 4k was more impressive on da bigscreen, coz frameskool needed to be watched 3-4 times to get all details and the tune is no partysmasher, overall its brilliant but not bigscreen killer prod. :( thats my point for only getting 2nd. for me it´s nr 1.

iq: nope, it's a mix of displaylists and glDrawElements for the part that is slow on your machine. I know it's very dirty but I ran out of time and made it in a hurry before the compo.

Fluor: as said, I don't have Vista to test the code but people with recent drivers told me that it ran properly so you might want to update your nvidia drivers.

And every demomaker out there knows how much time it takes to get it "just right".

plonk420: We now know why kkapture doesn't work with it thanks to Ryg, a fix will be submitted after Breakpoint, along with a few modifications to make sure it runs at the proper speed on Iq's card and on a few other laptop cards which seemed to have speed issues.

Ah, thanks for the reminder, I have a final version almost finished on my HD since last summer. It fixes a few (non)design things along with a few ATI bugs (the weird bottom left purple frame appearing a few seconds and 2 OpenGL performance issues).
I will try to have a look at it to release it as soon as possible, the timing is quite appropriate ;)

I had the black tiles under a GeForce FX 5600. When I got the new gfx card it's one of the first demo I'd run ;) It was perfect on a GeForce 8800 GTS 320. (both system on XP SP2)

sorry to swim against the tide here, but watching this was a really boring experience. literally nothing on the screen interested or excited me. the melody synth got on my nerves after 3 seconds.
