Very good and moody, but a li'l bit too long and repetitive...
LUVVVVVVVVV IT! Awesomely PAINFUL demo! =D
I fuckin love this style.
strongly reminiscent of metamorphosis and midnight run but with a more complete feel than either
nice stuff as usual
the hand-held camera thing is very cool. I also like chameleon more than the two prevs, I think it's because the less details and more flat/solid textures. Great prod!
Great music style!
I guess there will be some people complaining about the similarities to Metamorphosis and Midnight Run (and the use of some assets from Rupture)...but I couldn't care less. Its a great demo! Good design, addictive music, nice atmosphere and flow. Keep em coming...
Demo is really nice. soundtrack is nice, - dammit do _something_ to that filtered voice - sounds too flat!
music was ace.. colors ruled.. very nice to watch..
good stuff
Great demo! Good mix of 2D and 3D.
Yep
Good work
I didn't like Metamorphosis or Midnight Run, but this left me in awe!
There are so many things that worked well here...the colours are slick, the textured backgrounds are very effective and the integration of 3d gives it more variation and depth. The camera movements are really cool too. Just very polished and professional!
The only thing I didn't like was the music. Instrumentally it's a good track and I'm normally a big fan of aMusic, but there's something about sceners singing in demos that feels cheap.

Navis: I have always thought you got a strong inspiration from the various James Bond opening sequences (Thunderball, Casino Royal...) but this one finished to convince me in case I needed it, especially the "with love from ASD" message during the compo ;)
Nice work as usual, although very close to overrecycling too much this time ;)

It's good on its own, but given the previous ASD releases I felt it was too much rehashing. Therefore, piggy.
rupture meets midnight run
remixing the way it should be done
Should run almost on every machine and for some reason it dosen't. There's no effects, old art style that we have seen from previous releases from ASD.
I wish more cool effects from ASD and not just realtime music videos. ; (
CMON!

Actually I kinda agree with jumpseri but, oh well..
one of the better asd prods
alrite, and two soundtracks is nice
but what others have said about the looming over-rehash
but what others have said about the looming over-rehash
visuals great, rest as usual, but anyway, a worthy winner.
Awesome.
Superb.
Delicious.
Superb.
Delicious.
Lovely artwork and good music. The atmosphere completes this demo. I love it! :-)
fucking bored of the 'music' ..
what to say... you manage to deconstruct, build up and convert where all those interconnected connotations were ASD's sole brainchilds anyways. In other word: this is a fucking good thing with trademarks all around <3
thumbs up of course
now we're getting somewhere :)
it certainly put a smile on my face right after waking up, and big kudos for that. but seriously this whole "copy paste from old products" is kinda getting boring. sure each time we observe some fresh new kick to it, but in the end 90% of the stuff is just recycled.
it's a little sad...
it's a little sad...
For in between Rupture and Lifeforce 2
chameleon is a nice demo :)
chameleon is a nice demo :)
magic: seriously now... lifeforce!? get a fucking clue.
nice'n clean
Decipher: read carefully and you will understand the small joke.. no chill becoz you are reacting way to serious and agressive.... peace!
niceeeeee as usual. asd never dissapoints. in big or small packages. always delicious and with the flow.
Rulez, on the big screen at least. On my computer, it changes resolution and then crashes...
you are real artists !
Thumbs up, because it all fits together (again) so well. Although i had the feeling that this may basically consist of recycled and changed routines, but it is so peaceful and beautiful to look at, so that this is only a small point of criticism. Liked it!
Nice.
Nice!

BINGO!
Bleh, could just as well be a random flash animation if you ask me. The motorbike saves the thumb down.
hehe, nice mix of elements from other asd-demos. enjoyed it, allthough nothing really mindblowing. Transitions are smooth and cool as always.
Still cute :)
what Dwarf said
i actually liked it :)
This was really good. Really like the typography used. Sometimes I think the vignette is not helping.
My favourite from ASD so far.
My favourite from ASD so far.
I did like the background graphics way more than foreground silhouettes. I just don't get the train/bike/boat/helicopter/etc theme at all. Real life objects seem to take away my concentration from all the abstract stuff which is a shame. The soundtrack was really awesome and that alone makes this one of my favorite ASD prod.
Looks nice, but the file size is kind of heavy IMO.
To little action, and the music did help me falling asleep. It got good transitions but to much of the same.
love this soundtrack.
This is damn fine. Don't listen to the haters :)
I like this, but criticizers have the point
Being an ASD fan and by thinking at what was previously released, I was waiting for something "bigger".
I cannot says its a bad demo, but i feel a little disappointed.
In this demo category (2D black&white scrolling objects), I really prefer the other ones (Midnight Run & Metamorphosis).
And the "music" doesnt help also.

Great design, colors, soundtrack and typography (!). I would probably love it.. if this wasn't the 3rd time I saw the same thing. That, and it started dragging on towards the end a bit.
What evil said. Weak piggie.
What Duckers said :)
The soundtrack is definitely what makes this great. The visuals are also quite good, but I think I would've been a bit bored after a while with mediocre music. Luckily, the music is awesome :)
Holy crap, the soundtrack is irritating. Who thought that making the vocals sound like they were recorded in a bathtub, with the microphone 3 meters away, was a good idea? Also, autotune might be the pest of pop music, but using it in moderation can do wonders for people with a less than stellar singing voice. :)
I like the visuals, the 2d/3d switches and the hints & throwbacks to past ASD demos, but can't help thinking that the theme (parallax scrolling silhouettes, curly "ASD ribbons") is a bit played out by now.
It's still a rather good demo (+1 for supporting small(er) parties like Evoke), but not really thumb-up material either.

what Decca said
Regardless of what has been said about the music I found it very enjoyable and I really liked all the throwbacks to past ASD stuff. The sillhouettes really worked well, I loved it in fact.
I didn't liked the music. If I would have seen this without any prior knowledge of what ASD did I would give this a thumb up for the huge amount of effort and the transistions.
So that I wat I do : thumb it up.
So that I wat I do : thumb it up.
Lovely!!!
How is decided which soundtrack is used? All these video captures feature the female voice, but when I run it I always get the male voice!?
Male voice @ YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gfJoonPM4U
nice. but next time, do something different.
good, but seen-it-all-before
yip, as nice as always...cant get enuff of this style !
nice meeting you aswell, Navis :)
nice meeting you aswell, Navis :)
i really like the audio, i really like the visuals. i really don't see the connection between the two and that makes me give a piggy.
very very cool, my favourite asd demo in this style, a very refined product, subtly appealing visuals with a very smooth flow, i think the music is very good, love that style, just the vocals dont do it justice, but i think you already know that, will be wtaching this one again soon :)
Design approaching perfection.. kudos for being brave enough to include a full set of lyrics, grammatically correct and not cheesy, broken scene poetry. :) The male/female voice selection seems to be random to me. I would just say, add some compression and/or reverb, and yeah, maybe a little autotune, hehe (but nothing near the level of modern crappy pop music). The filtering does give it a good "old record" feel.
Not really my cup of tea, but stylish all over, no doubt.
Love the style! Congratulations
a tad boring on the directional/graphical side but music is nice as always
Oink for me, not really bad but expected more from ASD (some "already seen" feelings)
Live Footage!
For me, a very nice demo, perhaps slightly familiar though but quality and direction very nice.
For me, a very nice demo, perhaps slightly familiar though but quality and direction very nice.
I'm not much for this flat and mostly black style. And this one does get boring quickly. Piggie.
i'd give this a rulez for the awesome soundtrack alone, but i really dig the visuals as well.
I like the song, but piggy demo imo.. sry guys
lovely.
Vocals don't match the professionalism of everything else, but still rules.
Come on amusic, you know a demo soundtrack must have a kick snare routine + trancey keys + catchy choruses about how the demoscene is great :p
Magically fantastic in many ways and I liked the use of Rupture objects personally, and yet it didn't satisfy me.
I watched it first with the new vocals and it is fucking amazing with every aspect
these vocals are worser than vics in 303. :S
It's hightime to start putting new elements in this flat style because it's about to really wear out.
not very clever way how to use models from previous demo, sorry, but this is predictable, during the show I wait when copter show on the screen...I think you melt too much recycled ideas from your previous demos...
As a big fan of Amusic music scores, I must admit this is not my cup of tea, music sounds uninspired and voices are unfortunatelly bad joke.
still cannot thumb this down or give a piggy, demo has some nice moments (especially i like credit fonts)

Great.
When the bike goes 3D there's a yellowish background when it should be black because the bike intersects the camera.
Other than that I have no complains. Cool hip-hop soundtrack, even if repetitive. Goes great with the visuals.

Yet another goodie
didn't like the music at all, and the visuals are very dull. high quality stuff though, as expected, but not my cup of tea this time
great style as always! i like the bathtub vocal recordings (as somebody else referred to them)...adds to the feel.
Ok, this was my first party, now I see things differently : demos looks and sounds very different on the big screen !
aMUSIC : try to add some massive amount of reverberation to the vocals, at the party, I thought it was a very robotic voice and I liked it that way :)
Btw, my laptop has a ati firegl v3200 mobility 128MB (kind of a radeon x600 mobility) and crashes after changing resolution. On my main computer running vista x64, it runs smoothly, it just lacks the "loading" screen (it disappears just after changing resolution)

recycled: maybe. an artistic demo: hell yeah!
not my favorite asd demo but very nice transitions as usual.
I wonder how many more demos can ASD pull in this same style and still make me like it. That said, i liked midnight run and metamorphosis better, but still, thumb for great direction.
But I am chameleon also
one more for the style!
nice one
I like this demo, but it didn't leave me amazed in any way. It is polished, the music is good, the lyrics are good, and it has a nice artsy feel over it which leaves it open to interpretation.
The downsides for me is the re-packaging of events and models from Rupture in a new setting. While I do not disapprove of this method of working in art as such, it still feels a little cheap. I mean, I love the whole universe that you are spinning across your releases, but I would be much happier if it had grown a little more in this one instead of the high re-iteration of old characters/themes.
However, all that babble aside, I still think it is very worthy of my thumb. I would probably be happier about it if it didn't feel like a re-interpretation of Rupture.
Is there a lot of room left for optimization? It doesn't really run *stellar* on my demobox from last year.

It's great. ASD rules the silhouette space.
fantastic. it's the james bond title sequence of my weird dreams.
It's worth a piggie, nothing more nothing less
fantastic visuals/transitions/concepts as usual, music could be better as usual.. agree on what graga said about re-packaging as well.. still big thumb up!!
bu
very neat visuals
+1
asd cachet.
if it wasn't for the vocals..
if it wasn't for the vocals..
I like it a lot, never feels like it's loosing traction. My gripe with the vocals is not just the processing (as mentioned before), but the fact that they are off-time quite often, which is really annoying.
I love this type of demos. Great music too (gotan project, bajofondo alike) but the singing could have been better/left out. Great use of colors too in the backgrounds. I just would have liked to see a bit more color (like in the screenshot for example). Also, the references to bikes and boats could probably have been replaced with something fitting the style/demo more. The flow is amazing, as always.
I hope you are going to continue making this type of demos.
I hope you are going to continue making this type of demos.
I love chinese shadows, verctor based gfx, and vintage design... especially when ASD made it.
As usual, this prod comes with high artistical value, and an amazing flow. The music is great too, and perfectly fits.
A true masterpiece! Thanx

Thanks for delivering the layers of interpretation that made me feel like a total dork because I didn't see any of the unbalanced stuff you were talking about... Luckily it seems that even narrowminded people like me who focus on seeing and feeling rather than thinking are able to like this! Congrats for a really beautiful production!
i feel like you reached what you tried to in the demo before (metamorphosis+midnightrun).
Seems this demo is your point of view about the world you described.
people change people changing...
i do not agree with your world but i love this style and i'm sure the next ones too . thanks guys

suggestion : the vocals could benefit from more compression/deessing
Great stuff, really enjoyed it. Only major criticism: the vocals sounded like they were recorded from the built-in mic of a cheap laptop.
Oh, just read amusic's post above.. improved tune fixes it :D

We've seen everything in Metamorphosis, Midnight Run and Rupture, but the flow is incredible, the style is still awesome and the music so fresh and fantastic!
Recycled models, but good transitions/perfect flow as usual + good music = solid demo.
Music is boring. Also the vocals are not good in the mix: too far in the back.
Maybe that's a good thing because the singer made a few (timing) mistakes.
The rest of the demo is *yawn* too

Maybe someone should re-up the videos, so people can stop complaining about the vocal mixing. =)
too much reuse of mostly rupture stuff, nevertheless, i guess it shows you can make two decent demos with the same dataset :P
and the music was very nice!

I enjoyed it quite a lot
Thank you Navis, for standing behind the work.
Thanks you _-_-__, for having a silly name.
Nothing to say, it rocks from A to Z !
ThIs Is ArT
Another Masterpiece from our Greeks heroes :)
Another Masterpiece from our Greeks heroes :)
I'm sorry to say...but this one bored me quite a lot.
:O
Fanboy alert:
What ASD does with a few recycled effects, ideas and references is impressive. Not as mind-blowing as iconoclast or lifeforce… it's more a post-hypnoglow version of Eon.
Btw. Nice tune, even without the guitars and my beloved prog-influences (read as: bring the guitar back!)

i like it. well done ASD
OAAAAAARGEH!$!@$%^)($ FUCKING AUTOTUNE, USE IT.
Also, pull trigger FIRST, recoil AFTERWARDS.

ok so i downloaded the "new" version and the "chorus" ("come too close / then run away") is still earshatteringly out of tune, and the bathroom reverb preset doesnt help.
it's really a damn shame because what i SAW was appealing, even if a bit self-repeating.

<3 ZVOKZ! AND ASD
That just doesn't do it anymore for me. Get back to your first REAL demo style please.
solid, but as has been said it might be time for something else now (doesnt have to be something new, just something else :-))
sure, the timing of the voices were a bit off but I really dug the "bathroom" sound. made it more original.
It's really amazing that people tend to have great expectations from great groups - which is normal - and then when they don't like a prod they just diss it - that is amazing. It's like when Visualice started to make demos for FB and it wasn't like The Popular Demo.
Face it, if this demo was made by <insert 4-star group here> you would all thumb up and consider a real competitor towards the 5-class groups.
My opinion - and I've read your post, Navis - is it feels too much like recycled stuff, even if only a insignificant part is reused. It's not coherence of style, it's using the same comfortable places that you're getting used to, and that would be fine if the hidden message wouldn't translate in a look-a-like demo like rupture or midnight run.
Personally, I find the music WAAAAY under the level we're used from Amusic - whom I have an ENOURMOUS respect and admiration - so all in all a good demo with nice visuals which is fun to watch with low volume :)
btw, we watched during the compo in the stream, which sucked ass - damn you dtv!! - and it got better once we downloaded the binaries. the shadow party was great :)

navis: thumbs up for explaining your thoughts and thumbs down for comparing it to art. however, i do agree with you that the message of the demo is more important than wheter or not the code is reused or demonstrating state of the art code.
even though it feels a bit tame after all the previous fireworks from asd, it still manages to be a quality product in the demo ocean
this was cool.. somehow strange, but nice feeling..
This never failed to satisfy.
maybe some parts seems like a recycled mix of Metamorphosis & Rupture, but it was an enjoyable watch @ ZVOKZ!
I didnt like it, but its clearly brilliantly executed. Again.
I don't see demos as art, as they tend not to convey a message in traditional sence. However, it creates a symbiose together with the audio part. I'd call it design. (beware, this is subjective).
nice...
If this isn't art then what is...
entertaining! solid release from asd again.
no matter what you say about the music quality, it is still original and creates a special mood on its own.
Pros:
Awesome colors and flow (as usual)
Fantastic music theme and vocal filtering
Cons:
Is your 3D artist on vacations? :-P
For that specific music style, the vocals needed more "color". I know its not easy, just saying.

art is what artist say is art. But we are not entitled to like everything labeled art.
however. neat stuff this is. not everything needs to be "sparkling" from big groups :) however. this is.

1st viewing: A bit too recycling going on, nice colors and backgrounds. Not sure about this one.
2nd viewing: I like the music (instruments mostly), the shaking camera and type. It's quite nice.
3rd viewing: I really like the flow of this! Who really cares about the recycling?

*too much
quite boring, solid design though
It's terribly well done, very stylish, consistent and slick but then again, it's a bit "seen it before" from previous ASD releases. Also, i miss a few elements of surprise, still, not bad.
Gonna have to agree with the recycling problem, its all too familiar in content. So, just a piggie from me.
ASD is unbeatable =)
Smoother than a babies bottom!!!
p.s. Thanks for the extra Liska vocals mix as well, very nice indeed.
p.s. Thanks for the extra Liska vocals mix as well, very nice indeed.
i was listening to bajofondo a lot when midnight run was released and that soundtrack became one of my alltime favourites. the subpar vocals make it a bit harder to love this one, too but i still would really like to hear a complete album by amusic in this style.
for the visuals there are so many fantastic little ideas again and beautifully presented - together with the music and all those perspective tricks it reminded me more of those old pink panther intros than james bond.
and i think navis has a point with pottery.

I like what you've done with the stuff you had laying on the desk there.
even lots of good will didn't force me to watch more than 90 secs of this, so called, piece of art. not my cup of tea. after something refreshing on tg'09 this is a huge step backward into boredom :( plenty of potential wasted one more time. navis, i am officially begging you - let aMusic go for a vacation from time to time :)
nice
it's ok
Recycling.
Anyway, the very stylish demo. I especially like the ending.

sux, sorry! you need new ideas or go back to the roots (like icnonclast or LifeForce). :(
Love the flow!
And I refuse to comment on those vocals :)

Ofcourse this is art, and good art aswell!
I really like the "hand held" camera, it gives another dimension to it. And discussing if its wrong or right to recycle objects from previous demos doesn't give me nothing. Since the objects are used in a completly different context here from the previous demos I don't think it's a problem what so ever.
I would really like to live inside Navis head while he designs his demos. So many brilliant design ideas and always backing it up with a meaning.
Navis, Thanks for another brilliant ride!

Great prod - fantastic dark feel the whole way though. Very much enjoyed it on the big screen!
My girlfriend asks why it is brass instruments and not accordions.
Intro is really cool..but out of tune vox and incompatibility make me give it a thumb :/
Elegant!
quite cool
"demokunst"
Can someone capture it?
isn't it captured enough?
Good prod, nice atmosphere even if the feeling and the effects are the same of the previous demos ... You should maybe work on a new concept of effects for the next ones :)
Rather boring....
asd quality prod even it's not my cup of tea i thumb up for the amount of wrok and the overall design quality
You've always got these catchy tunes where I ask myself a few days later "Where was that song from thats playing in my head?". And then I remember its from that ultracool ASD demo :-)
I liked Metamorphosis and Midnight Run more. I didn't liked the music and lyrics this time.
quality prod
I like the mix of 2D & 3D.

great Demo, Superb GFX & Music, ASD Quality, as always :-) THX
very artistic ASD type-of demo with great sound and a lot of atmosphere with room for interpretations. the 3d interchanges were nice too. But I'm afraid this style is getting overused. for the next demo please get something new!!
just beautiful. top direction and music.
Not crazy about this style, but it did remind me of the second Casino Royale movie. and Made Men's animated openings. Not the best ASD demo though.
Too much recycling
what Pit + Emod said. this feels too recycled...
I may be obcessing over this, but it's a really lovely poem in demo form. One of the few I've seen.
Thanks ASD.
Thanks ASD.
I love it. Probably my favorite from asd. Amazing in every aspect.
Great stuff again
Best soundtrack ever.
Stylish, with outlines and silhouette. Would make this demo very good as the music keeps telling a story. Somehow I liked this but maybe I'd liked to see more of the "old ASD style", with more colors and spec. effects? Anyhow, this demo is good and everytime I watch it is seems to climb the ladder. Nice idea, cool you guys took it one step further this time :P
I've said it before I'll say it again.
ASD is the demoscene of the 21st century. They are capable to always bring something new and fresh. As for the bad music comments I've read so many in all ASD prods without making a point, and really all I have to say to all haters is that I am rubber, you are glue.
Keep up the great job ASD!!!

My favorite demo of the year so far.
You guys really redefine the scene. Or not. However the style is a fresh breath for sure!
Keep up the good work.
Keep up the good work.
Nice.
somehow i don't like that style at all =/
Absolutely wonderful.
Okay, in case there was some misunderstanding about things: the reason people liked Metamorphosis was because it was a daring departure from the good old reheated DX9.0c 3D player experience. Beating that concept to death so it becomes another dead horse to beat all over again is not cool.
Nice direction, but boring music. Still a rulez.
Now okay, you like shapes and stuff, along with things that go in and out of one another in a manner which could be referred to as "stylish", but lets please not be confusing that with art, at least. Please?
"three_glops_guy_69"

One of the few examples where using music instruments with a jazzy style does not get on your nerves. The razorblades are somewhat emo, though ;)
Designwise and conceptually very well done as usual. But I don't find it all that interesting. It was nice to read Navis' analysis of it all but that didn't add anything to my experience. Maybe the music would work better in another prod even though it is well-written and well-produced.
Not very entertaining.
well this was boring
Too much recycling, even for my taste.
Too much recycling, but I still liked it.
really cool. love the tune!
cool. but the music kicks ass! :D
Too much recycling, but the music deserves the thumb.
Among its siblings (Metamorphosis & Midnight Run), this is the one I like most. It's got that "what will happen next?" feeling that holds my attention till the end, music is good, lyrics too. Even though (to be honest) I can't really relate the images to Navis' "explanation" of them. Is he serious, when he raves like that? :) Not to take anything away from Chameleon's worth, I like it better and watched it more than, say, Frameranger...
Visually this is amazing (I want to make babies with that font), the singing is awful indeed as written before but the effect was interesting, reminded me of some experimental house I heard recently. However the "story" which I found very strong in previous ASD demos is completely absent here, or at least I didn't get it - and devoid of soul, this doesn't appeal nearly as much to me
Uh, I just got a pretty interesting mp3 in my inbox....
This was the first ASD-Demo I found boring... too much effort to look like art, but failed in doing so, anyway. This is a piggy.
Stylish as always, big Extra Thumb for the Music :)
well known asd style, would love to see something new!
What's wrong with the youtube video on the link? It has some sort of rules violation error.
Damn good !
Nice music, well know ASD style, but somehow I missed the point.
enjoyable.
1. deserves thumb
2. feels a bit too long (eg boring)
3. vocals in demos ... hmm, i didnt get the message at all ... maybe its the (audio) mix, or maybe demos are not videoclips. felt like infamous scenepoetry @ times.

I didn't even reach the end...
No.
ok'ish to me
Removed from youtube for "terms of use violation", weird?
Like this one! Excellent music as usual from aMUSiC!
Reused visuals, lack of a story, what everyone else said. The music holds it up, though. Tumbs up.
I like it!
As the Youtubelink is down, I made a new Highres Video for both versions (female/male) in my HD Channel:
YOUTUBE: Chameleon by ASD (male voice) (1080p)

nice again
Cute one and with two soundtracks :)
yet another lovely ASD demo. not a big assembly type one, but a nice 2D/3D diversion.
weak thumbs up because the vocals are not my cup of tea :)
........
yep the third and last of the series, a bit darker but nevertheless thumbworthy
Almost completely forgot about this one !
love it
