Amazing...
My personal winner from Breakpoint2006!
the video (~7min, xvid 640x384, 100mb)
Looks like a mix of lapsuus & silkcut (or ocean machine).
Phew. So, I watched it again, just to be sure. But at the end of the day, this is just a valium-paced, pretentious and pointless 3d fly-by with makingmenuts audio.
what hitchhikr said
I loved some of the graphics, but ultimately I agree with Tomaes.
And why do a fly-by on a machine that can't handle it? All it did was remind me how out of date the Amiga is.

here is no stylish ephedrena 'hard drum depres music' :( Also it looks like lapsus + ocen machine. So .. as demo, it suck, but engine itself is nice, and autmosphere nice too :) good to see that ephedrena make somethink for bp anyway
Nice parts, but I really miss a normal soundtrack..
awesome visuals, strong code
too bad the overall pace and the music doesn't really make it ( at least on me )

Lot's of very good things, but I found it incredibly longggggggg.
A shortened version with the same effects but with more energy would be way better (to me).

Best demo in the compo
Rank two in the end is justified. Good and unusual demo. Seems Eph has changed its style once again and I like it!
very very well executed ambient style demo. one of the best eph-demos ever!
Can`t thumb down due to the overal quality look, however the music really hurt and it just appeared to jump from scene to scene. Rather boring with no purpose and nothing of interest. The two "head" scenes were awesome though!
i love the abstractness of this, including the music..
best one
crazy!
Really nice!
technically brilliant production. Well, I just have to get comfortable with this calm athmosphere.
Every 5 seconds in the compo I thought: "4,5...NOW the blast hits...erm...hmm...strange".
Really liked the graphic breaks!
I'm anxiously waiting for the final version

Very stylish demo, my personal favourite.
the winner, imho.

love this one. thanks to everyone involved. the mood it builds up is just great. my personal bp06-wowdemo.
this was great. tho when watching it on the live stream we couldn't figure out who did this.
your hear that DTV? ;)
your hear that DTV? ;)
My favourite amiga demo ever.
a bit slow but then again very heavy routines... bumpmapped hdr rules ;)
Slow and sceneplayerish, but looked great!
my personal winner of the amiga compo !
best demo of the party
Excellent design with an exciting brooding tension throughout the demo. Perhaps it would have been even better (for me personally) if that tension built up into somekind of climax. If you've ever listened to music by Mogwai or GodSpeed, you'll know what I mean. But it is what it is and it is still a great demo...I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you!
ah, damn...forgot the Thumb Up again ;)
a bit unexpected, but lovely stuff. i liked it...
I had to wait a long time for Ephidrena to create another demo. But it was worth waiting for. The best amiga demo at breakpoint. And,.. Yes,.. The normalmapping deserves some respect! :)
it's like watching a really good thriller. loved it! the music reminds me of the end of "2001: a space odyssey"
amazing. Some really great scenes and mood. Looking forwards to that polished up final/remix!
Beautiful visuals, annoying sound and the demo quickly becomes boring.
really nice mood
best demo in the compo. You must do the final version. After watching it for a second time in home I see that the timeline bugs are really visible.
Waiting for the final and next productions!
Waiting for the final and next productions!
really nice ... but the music is too boring.
wow! what a great demo concept with a really dense atmosphere. great to see and hear a demo that completely renounce of beats.
My personal winner. Actually .. this became my personal all time favourite, simply because of the PERFECT mood with an underlying DEEP idea.
Cheers for that! =)
Cheers for that! =)
The visuals are so good that you didnt have any cpu left for music, that was a real shame.
My preferred one from the compo.
Good stuff. Makes me feel prowd to be an amiga scener and norwegian...hehe....looking forward to the final version.
apparently lack of time prevented the guys from throwing a bone - really sad because it was awesome so far.
Was nice to see this on a big screen!!!
A "big" final version would be nice ;o)

fucking rules, i really really hope you do a finished version!
impressive
....it is a bit boring though... :)
The only thing that made the Amiga demo compo for me.
Massive demo. My personal fav in the compo
Funny to notice that both this demo and TBL's are related to requiems...
Absolutely fantastic, loved it at the compo, but even more so after watching it a couple of times at home. Might take the crown of bonkers all time favourite demo from C-Lous Showbase Shape.
SO cool! will thumb it up again when they release the final in a year or two..
Great music and mood. Textures are floating a bit (notaceble in a second part of the demo), but it's all right, anyway :)
Looks nice, but it makes me sooooo sleepy :P
Ephidrena did it again. Technically it destroyed everything single handedly at the party (except 8 bit stuffs maybe), and they were brave enough to make it such an unusual style. Crazy, genuine, monumental... I can't find words. Love it.
And you even had some spare parts that you didn't have time to put in I've heard... deff. deserved first place.
I like slow-paced demos, but this is certainly overdone. However, the voxel(?) landscape was indeed impressive.
what spewk said or what hitchhiker said
Should have won.
you should've won, but atleast you beat tbl. :)
Not my kind of demo... Looks good though, so a small thumb..
After seeing the video. Wow! I wish I could make this run on WinUAE (error return failcode 20 somethig).
my presonal favourite from bp. yes, once again, it should have won.
this is just ammmmmazing
this is just ammmmmazing
my personal favorite, closely being followed by iris.
i found the reactions to this one amazing, as mostly all of the people found it boring, while i totally loved it. nice soundtrack, plus it's partly build around my favorite scene from ocean machine, which was extra cool.

i love this demo!

Well well well! a very brave design. I was kind of waiting for a takeoff throught the whole demo in the compo. Anyways. VERY impressive demo.<michael jackson> Ephidrena! I love you guys! </michael jackson>
holy shit.. this roxx =O
music is very fitting.. some of the best 3d visuals I've seen in a long time. Definately should have won..
Oh and it works seamlessly in winuae btw..

it's odd but nice :)
I love it. Great visuals (3d and pixeled). The music is also good, and fits the demo nicely.

Exactly what Slummy said. :)
Awesome stuff!
watched the video of this and just want to say that its even better than i remembered it was.
i think i need to rethink my list of all-time-favourite demos. :)

Sleeping pill for sure. And the music (or lack thereof) only makes it worse.
But technically this is awesome, probably the best looking demo I've seen on the Amiga - ever. I didn't like it that much in the compo but it is starting to grow on me, still think it would have benefitted from being a few minutes shorter though.
Nevertheless, here comes a well deserved thumb.

well, its a sucess!
now THIS is one beautiful piece of work!
I don't like the tempo but otherwise it's too good to thumb down
Loved it. Really looking forward to seeing what is done to make the final.
Fabsome!
It's magic. Light Shining Darkly
Wow .. imagine what it could be on PC ... ( Ok Ok I Go out )
Best demo in the compo. The suddenly stopping camera flights are a bit annoying but otherwise this rules a lot.
-~o~- x -~o~-
nytrik: is the answer "boring flyby"?
it could be technically impressive but i forced myself to watch it till the end.
it could be technically impressive but i forced myself to watch it till the end.
Nice, but it just seemed like a long intro to something bigger, faster, stronger ... ?
haha, wow !! you have 8bit addressed textures on A*M*I*G*A ?! OMFG AND NOW FOG TOO?! ANTIALIASING? OMFG!!
BETTER SWITCH TO AMIGA THEN!!!
BETTER SWITCH TO AMIGA THEN!!!
Boring like hell, technically a HIT!
Even with some visual inaccuracies the 3d engine(s) are very good. I think the music is a brave attempt and indeed it's quite hard to do this on a mere paula.. The graphics and textures are brilliant imho.
The style reminds me of Lustmord or early Tangerine Dream. But it just isn't completely there.. (Check out Lustmord's Carbon/Core video if you really want to mash your brain and guts).
Something went wrong when putting all the parts together imho. Which shows making an ambient prod is not as easy as people tend to think....
Anyway, I thump up for the effort and the quality of the individual components.

Just watched the video again, i reckon this was the 2nd best demo at bp after mfx' deities. Still looking forward to that final!
eeeeh ... it´s weird (even in Eph style) but it has some attitude. I like a treehouse.
Wow! Ephidrena. my favourite amiga group just made another killer! great! The music in this demo combined with the gfx gave me goose skin like hell! You rule!
fantastically scored and designed.. admittedly (as you know) let down by some jerky moving between scenes.. still good tho
great 2001 feeling here - a bit too long though
Bullshit, the music is massive. Only good designers can handle soundtracks without steady beats.
great except for the rendering inaccurities
loaderror, i want to have that "much better version" :)
@load:
still planning to release it at solskogen or sooner?

woow, what a trip...
awesome soundtrack...
another killer from Ephidrena, my favourite now, along with The Respirator Stories.

clearly unfinished, but man... so captivating. and haunting.
Impressive. Seeing software 3D rendering this good on a 68040/68060 makes me wonder just what could be accomplished using software only on a more modern machine. The score reminded me of a slow part of a horror movie.
What Britelite, Trace and others said. I'm a sucker for something consistent and moodsetting. This has it in spades, but I also have to agree with Heetach on a few scenes -- I think quite a few people can't wait to see the final, myself included. Oh, and what dOOgE said, too :)... This demo is not quite Eph, yet Eph if you know what I mean.
Typical flyby shit.....
kill me but coming from c64 land the render engine seems to be very weak and inaccurate. Thats all a 060 can do ? Disappointing. Why is so slow the planet scene ? It can be done with a movelist, and a lookuptable for the shadings IMHO. I had an a1200 which and for example the gouraud scene from nexus7 run nicely on the stock machine, but for a not so much complex 3d scene a 060 just struggles ? Now come and flame me :)
flyby demo.
great gfx and great effect.
awesome music.
a bit boring camera work.
but, great overall!!

WOW!!! Shader 3d!!! Atmospheric sound!
Oswald:
think you just didn't consider that the 060 here has a bit more to do than just render the effects...
the multichannel module for example;)
For Nexus 7: Paula 4 channel output, 2x2 chunky display...so what, there's a huge technicaly gap between these two
rloaderro:
I now got used to the athmosphere.
And it is just like a ...ahm... feverdream somehow...and thus it works.
But I wish you come back to the "in your face" style once in a while ;)

Amazing stuff!
Also, comparing this to Nexus7 is plain idiotic, since this demo is "the most beautiful example of 'traditional chunky-buffer sw-rendering on amiga' ever", whereas Nexus7 does most of its cool stuff (except a couple of 2x2 5bpl chunky-parts) using smart hardware- and bitplane-effects.
For instance, the gouraud in Nexus, which btw was NOT 2x2 chunky (shame on you d0DgE), was done using precalculated spans and blitter/cpu copying.
My point here is (for once) not to diss Eph, but to point out that the two mentioned demos have completely different goals;
Nexus7 was an example of creating something goodlooking and technically impressove by working *with* the amiga-hw, whereas LALE (I'll never write that bloody title) is an examle of working against the amiga-hw to achieve a beautiful vision no matter what it cost. (Eventhough we all know the result would have looked better if they did it on a PC or any other (faster) platform with a chunky-framebuffer).
So; Oswald; you're comparing bicycles and elephants, and d0DgE: you better get your facts straight...

beautiful gfx, a perfectly fitting soundtrack and some excellent moody scenes. but let down by the jerkiness. i cant chill to those jumping textures =)
yuppers, non 256x256 textures can really kill performance but they can enhance a good deal a demo, just take a look at showbase shape from c-lous to get a sample :)
what impressed me a lot in this demo tech-wise is that you are definitely willing to sacrifice speed towards breaking new grounds into render techniques such as the antialiased spheres or the normalmap with glows. could it be done faster? probably yes, but someone has to come and make it first and then maybe the same or others will get into beating it.

loaderror,
huh there is way much more to the sphere than I thought, but this brings to me telling that half of the effects you apply to the sphere is invisible. The perturbation map, the blending with the background with coverage factor, the anti aliasing, the motion blur is just not there. You could easily kill all of them and have rather a bilinear filtering and more speed for a smoother result IMHO. I would also kill any realtime light calculations if they are not used. But how much cooler it would have been to actuall move the light when you can ? :) The straight planet axis didnt hurt much.
I have just little experience in coding texture mappers, so I dont go into details here.
Slummy: I know that I'm comparing bycicles and elephants. I simply took nexus 7's gouraud stuff to have a rough idea of what a 020 can do and extrapolate that to a 060 :) I know 060 is a beast compared to a 020 running on chip ram :) With a lack seeing a lot of 060 demos I just picked some basis to be able to estimate roughly what a 060 should be able to do.
Overall now I think the code well done, but is too brute force and that sadly doesnt shines through enough. I'd rather go for cheaper stuff for speed but make it look good ;)

Slummy: forgive me...screwed some up.
In the end the basic difference is:
Nexus -> massive chipset usage
LALE -> almost complete 060 cpu
In the end the basic difference is:
Nexus -> massive chipset usage
LALE -> almost complete 060 cpu
Slummy: Are you guys talking about the red/yellow/white blob in the beginning of nexus? The gouraudshader is plain and straightforward cpu-drawing, no precalc there or anything. The lamest piece of code in the whole demo.
Hyde: yupps, talking about that one. I expected it to be cpu since a blitter-setup for such small spans wouldnt be worth it compared to 020. And yes, it is the lamest part. ;) And I thought it was copying precalced spans, i.e. the "Pygmy projects - Gforce"-method, only with smaller triangles/shorter spans because of the 2mb chip limitation.
Anyway, it was just used as an example here.
Oswald: I believe the kind of demo you're looking for might be something like Loonies' "Hotstyle Takeover" :)
But unfortunately, most newschool aga-demos (including my own crap ofcourse) are just chunky-based stuff with no special "amiga-specializations" that'd look a lot better if they were pulled off on a (slow) pc instead.

oswald: hmm, I didnt see the "make it look good" part of your post. In that case you might not want to check out Hotstyle takeover anyway.. :)
"Hotstyle takeover" is fucking ace and looks great! why dont you make this demo like "Hotstyle takeover" ?
All the small effects applied, makes out the 'wow' factor. eventhough you cant really see them
Killer!
Loady: what a lame excuse that is. :D Anyway, I'd love to see that "educational" mode! :)
Demo looks stunning, but also slow. Framerate-wise, I mean. So it's really hard to judge whether the code is impressive or not. We need more demos using similar techniques so we have some way to judge this. So make more. ;)
The graphics and modelling are really, really nice at any rate. And obviously a huge effort in piecing everything together.
I agree with everyone that the pace is too slow and it could use some "surprises" here and there. And I guess you should've spent time on texture accuracy rather than stuff that gets overshadowed by bad texturemapping. But still, demo should've won. Demo didn't. I feel bad.

too boring
I loved it, should have won.
excellent demo. i liked loady better when drunk at bp than when bitter and hurt on pouet, though.
I had to disagree with all comments here; I mean, you'r all so wrong !!!!

ephidrena rules.
loady: About the monitor problem, you might consider getting an LCD monitor with s-video input (they exist, e.g. Dell 2000FP- something). A1200 can be easily modified for s-video output.
I have a 20" Dell thingy with DVI connection for the PC, s-video for the Amiga, composite for cable TV via a VCR, and a spare VGA connector for whatever. It saves a lot of space on my desk and it looks pretty too.
Ideal for making your boring slow Amiga flyby shit. ;)

doom, you just solved my monitor problems also :)
the soundtrack is haunting.
it definitely makes most of my appreciation and gives a dark and macabre direction to the visuals.
i'm amazed.. i really hadn't expected to be touched by a flyby demo with static scenes.
i like this demo the same way i like chimera on pc, not for its content (which compared to chimera is probably more accessible), but for its whole direction.

liked it on the bigscreen

The A1200 S-Video hack
There are also PAL-RGB -> S-video converter boxes. I think they exist in the UK because of some old Sky decoder that had RGB outputs. Apart from that they're probably really rare.
Third alternative would be one of those fancy video scalers with lots of inputs&outputs. Probably expensive.

The style of this demo is probably not compatible to everyone's taste, but it's highly unique and original. I like it a lot.
artsy-fartsy
i am really charmed by this work, especially scenes with a man and a woman. pure magic.
It's better than ok.
Atmospheric stuff; reminds me "Ocean Machine" by TBL... Definitely Rulez.
not so complex but nice-3dobjects except for the statues, they rock!. nice color-flow, something I should learn from. and several excelent pixeled-images that really blends into the demo. The whole concept is quite good, but im not sure about the music. Still is a very good technical demo for the amiga platform.
Very creepy music- sent shivers down my spine, reminded me of the music that accompanied the Monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey (Ligetii?)... As for the visuals, they're fairly primitive: Blocky, sepia-tone, few colors, low-poly figures, very slow movement... but they match the music very well.
The visuals were also fairly stark and surrealist, especially the haphazardly stacked impossible building- the pole holding it up especially reminded me of Salvador Dali.

Athmosphere! sometimes it's boring, sometimes it's scary, sometimes it's beautiful!
Great One :) Very Athmospherical - very long and calm. Perhaps sometimes little bit boring to watch but mostly Top one :)
Well, i gotta say, has great visuals for sure!
It's a shame I haven't given this one a thumb up already
that was the most boring bullshit i had ever to see
ok i say this rules and my opinion is always absolute and right
Watched it again. Still rules, and still my favourite Amiga demo ever.
yep, this rules.
must apology for a comment that slipped out too quick, but now I know why:
Oswald made a comparison between this and Nexus 7. By the second I read the word Nexus my BP06 damaged brain altered the term to NErve aXiS and thus the images of "Relic" appeared and drove me to that stupid chunky display comment. What a bloody confusion...
sry, my bad

Quite nice fx & gfx, too bad the audio quality il so lo-fi.
i like your prod, ephidrena.
The eternal light is what?
Well executed and nicely directed.
Does very good at what was the point of it.
Does very good at what was the point of it.
Beautiful and haunting.
very atmospheric. too bad i missed the amiga compo at last bp :-(
Googlevideo/youtube version would be nice (easy to spread around) as this is just great demo =)
I like the ambience of this demo very much. Also gfx and music are beautiful.
Very beautifull.

thumb up for the great atmosphere!! - but it´s really slow and a little bit boring
whoa, i didn't comment on this one yet? let's remedy that. i love slow, atmospheric demos done right. the narrow color palette was perfect for this, and convenient on an amiga. :) it does its job of standing apart from the crowd while still showing off talent.
Wow, this was incredible. Should have won. Designwise anyway.
Impressive and beautiful!
Beautiful !!
Thax for AMiga GOD !
Thax for AMiga GOD !
Great demo !
Excellent code & graphics, but it gets bit boring and needs more chords.
grr, I forget to thumb up ! Great atmosphere also.
Cool
It feels a bit wrong to say this....but it was rather booring..although the grapics where awesome after two minutes i found that i had stopped watching the demo and started to play with my occiloscope :P
the overall atmosphere was for my taste a bit too scary. anyway thumbs up for the awesome effects!
Most impressive in all aspects.
boring.!
...but technically very impressing.!

so krass!
I like the mood it creates... and technically this is impressive for AGA+060!
Wow... great atmosphere and impressive code!
what most of you said

Yay for the demo, and yay for fixage.
Somewhat boring, but the great atmosphere and visuals make up for it (and then some)!
so! we have heard of a final! GIVE IT TO ME BABY? this demo deserves it!
Technically very impressive.
!
lovely
this has leading!
oppressive
!
I can barely believe what I just saw.
atmosphere
i recall liking it at the party. but it's slow and basically nothing is happening...
Very impressive, but music is daunting...
Needs a climax but I like it a lot
Just watched the final... this would have been a true killer if you had added some amazing music.
i still dont like it :(
When I saw this first time : "WAT THA.... FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH \X/"
beautiful scenes, but ultimately way too slow for my taste
Really well composed. I especially like how the shot at the very start is shown again at the end, and how my interpretation of that has been manipulated by the the stuff inbetween.
i just wanted to mention that this still rules, and the music is massively awesome too. respect for even trying out anything like it, and even more for pulling it off in such a solid fashion. shame that the demo is a tad unfinished.
Astonishing graphics, maybe be some music is missing to it.
impressive style and graphics, nice atmosphere too
Amazing graphics but somehow feels quite cold to me...
I like this demo but it is a bit slow on my amiga1260..:)
I like this one very much.
Technically: Impressive. Overall: Very boring.

boring
i think that landscape looks really slick. photorealism, almost.
"a machine that can't handle it"? what? maybe your machine just sucks. :]

Great grafixx inside.
wa...
one word : massive !
Superb Penis Elevation Angle!
I loved it. Felt very different and dark :).

+music
+art
+not a boring effect demo
The direction and pacing left a lot to be desired, but overall it's a very bold and interesting demo that left me wishing for more.

overall a bit boring, because it builds up and does not drop some bomb (i thought it will come). but atmosphere + sound are great so no need for suckage or piggie.
cool, I was seeking for it. best AGA demo even unfinished.
well for me it's unfinished, the last sequence is not enough clean in rasterisation.
I wasn't a huge fan of the music; wished for something more similar to Ocean Machine for instance.. but the visuals are stunning!! Awesome stuff.
Very beautiful and stylish demo!
just wow - perfect atmosphere, perfect graphics, perfect illbientish sound. art can be so beautiful!
Loved the gfx.
Tremolo
Wow!
Cool! :)
Nice effects.
whatever they wanted to achieve with that looped sound, it ruined the demo
absolutely beautiful!
Outch !!! Superb.
t$: I think they were going for the movie 2001's feel. Well, that has annoyingly slow scenes with annoying, angst-inducing music as well. 2x cam speed and a soundtrack where something happens and is listenable would have made a world of difference.
It's about time you got my thumb for everything else which absolutely rules. Classy, arty, driven theme and design, good code with very high quality visuals.

i found this to be unimaginably boring. It just felt like an intro to something.... but nothing ever came... Only more brownish and slow scenes.
'Just a flyby' but has just something.
Amazing visuals and pixel art!!! :-)
Still waiting for the proper final version.
I obviously missed that one when it was released and just watched it for the first time. I am struggling between pure astonishment because of the atmosphere and the tight polished visuals and that "damn, when is there finally something happening here". Thumb up mainly for the tight atmosphere created.
Whoa, what an amazing demo!
Massive!!!
Like the atmosphere and the quality of the effects!
Thumb goes up here
Technically great and I like the slow pace. Ephidrena has better demos, but this is delightfully different, so thumb up!
I was going to piggie it up this time, but then saw mayday's remark, and sure; why not...
sick
Amazing..!
Fantastic atmosphere
