This is the party version removing some nasty predeadline hacked-together scenes.
Sorry for the filesize, a final version reducing it and changing some gfx may be made soon :)

Special thanks to Shock/Collapse and Interface/BoaH for their respective drawings.

Very nice and it doesnt require the latest hardware to show off cool things!

note: This version differs from the ones that have been uploaded to the euskal.org and solstice.scene.org websites posted at pouet's oneliner.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it :)

Looks way too much like all other stravaganza demos. I.E.: 3D Scene, cut to 'designish' static scene with object spinning + letters, and loop.

Rules, nonetheless, but can't stop feeling a bad taste looking how much each Stravaganza production looks more like the last one, kinda like showing 'hey, we got these new effects but do the same demo'.

A good demo, all in all :-)

thumb up for the start of the demo, after it's to muche strange for me.
why don't use depth focal during all the demo ?

I don't understand the demo very much... if it was about showing design techniques, it would have been nicer to view it in more frames per second; I don't believe that there was a need for such a big cpu and gfx card. Hey ithaqua tell me if I'm wrong O:-)
About the music, I have prefered to listen to it in my house again and I still believe the same, I don't like it... it has not the classical pump-up style that used to have the sgz demos. It's a pity :-(
Wow, the first black-and-white Depth-Of-Field part was breathtaking!
Nice synch-effects in the standard 'demo-style' parts..
I love the little details, for example the semi-transparent-plastic-like-blur-thing overlay (good description, eh?) seen in the lower right screenshot.

Overall a very nice demo.

Solid design, nice music and it looks fucking cool and wasn't even as slow as the first scene indicated (yeah I have a crappy computer).

I didn't fully enjoyed this demo because of disk swapping on that netcafe. I think those were good computers with 512MB ram, but I couldn't see the properties of the one I was sitting. How much memory does it want anyways?

There are some usual nice stravaganza syncing, however I feel like I liked the older demos more. Though, I have to watch it again in a good PC because the disk swapping destroyed the feeling possibly. Then, I will come and give it a rules ;)
added on the 2004-07-27 02:30:33 by Optimus Optimus
Paralax: actually "resistance is futile" is printed on Stravaganza t-shirts.... darn.. I almost got one of those at BP...

as for the demo.. well =) WHOAAA...

style, colours, atmosphere, design... and a little cunningham/bjork inspiration there.. it left the other demos looking for sympathy...

We love you guys =) We want the final =)

Fantastic! Although some parts looked very much like "This Way" this demo still kicked some serious ass. Never a dull moment. I loved it from start to finish. A definite keeper.
rulez added on the 2004-07-27 03:34:09 by sea_monkey sea_monkey
Good improved final party version lol. artifacts of the animation and deformation of the girl, and the lack of shadows when is "praising" destroys a little the design. First part and partyally blurred green tube are great though

Very nice demo, tho I expected more :( and i think i expected more because i was wishing to see that demo since euskal party 11... I miss that pump-up sensation like sole said, great graphic and music work anyway. Keep up the donsi powah!!! :D que vienen los roboorrlllsss

Very good demo. Some nicely updated oldskool visual ideas, and exceptional attention to sync. Unfortunately I feel like it was only half finished and I wanted more. Would have liked to see more done with the physics. Definitely thumbs up though.

That was simply amazing. It looked like it had to be prerendered, but it wasn't... Wow.

I want only to shout: STRAVAGANZA STRAVAGANZA STRAVAGANZA. On my holy ass, this is fucking most entertaining demo ever. One of the best designed scene prod... And one among my favourite demos... WOOOHOOOOOO. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAA...
rulezcdc added on the 2004-07-27 10:55:09 by meCh\bps meCh\bps
To be honest, I was expecting a fucking great demo this time, one of those perfect demo, as they was always saying that there were finishing it, that this time the demo was going in a serious way.. the result is a really nice demo, but not good enough to be remembered as a classic.

So in the partyplace I was expecting to be really shocked with thar prod.. the first scene was brilliant, nice quality, nice ambient, but was just the next scene when i thought.. are they kidding about the last way of demos just rotating random objects? Then i see the next scene and was more or less the same.

Imho the big problem about that prod, and excuse me wonder, is the quality of the sound (it limitations), i'm sure that with one of the gloom mp3 that prod could improve a lot. The render is nice, the code is great, the music is nice as well, but as demo could me much better.

Btw, the new scenes and changes in the final version are great!

Thumbs up because the demo is great, but not great as "this way" as demo.

C'mon dudes! Looking forward for the perfect sgz prod soon!

I was afraid to try running it on my PC yesterday, but i am sattisfied, only few scenes run slow on my GF4MX (Surprised to see such focal blur without needing pixel shaders), all the others are smooth and from the beginning of the exploding trees I start to like the demo much better.

It's actually VERY seldom that someone can put elements like these in a demo and make me enjoy it. mad skills :)

oh, except for that horrible yellow and black "door design" .. because it's too overused :)
rulez added on the 2004-07-27 17:45:24 by leijaa leijaa
agh. i'd love to watch this, but it crashes after about 20% of the loading done (my gf4ti4600ultra probably does not support opengl 1.5 when i think about it).. gah! that does it - i'm ordering myself a new graphicscard - i feel a transition coming on these days and i'm tired of not being able to watch cool demos.

thumb will probably come follow later on. :)

This demo rules!!!! It runs even in my lame GeForce 4 MX.

It made me go back in time to see more stravaganza demos.

Very nice, but not breathtaking as some of the comments seem to suggest.

Just one minor point - it displays error of 'pixel format not hardware accelerated' if trying to run in 16 bit colour. Just thought I'd mention it as my panel has native res of 1600 * 1200 which I can only run in 16 bit colour. Once I dropped to 1024 * 768 @ 32bit then it runs fine.

I don't know, but yes, the prod have a lot of work, a lot of quality, but could be a classic but because something won't be a classic for me. Not as "this way" is for me.

becouse all that pixelshaders-super-looking-old-effects-demos will burn in the fire of even-brand-new technologies and only real demos with the feeling will be left. what are new versions of directx if in five years evryone will notice them quite ugly? The real spirit is what differs good demos from those worse. And that certainly has the feeling.

Because of the drivel flow what some people do about this stuff today only a piggie comes out...

Why? Just saw the demo and after it my first reaction is pressing delete on the directory without any hesitation. Yeah, that android look good and some nice movement too but nothing more. The music is under any criticizm ... Other things isn't push any limits (as some people dreamt about) just represent a littble better quality than the averange.

Any person telling this prod is not good, is just jealous... Design, SUPERB (congratulations Ithaqua!), graphics/3d, so good (great techno!), animation... better than ok, music is good enough even if it is not the typical prod song (this is why I think some people critic it). And about the two gfxs... shock and interface, you perfectly know I really love you and all your works :). One of the firsts spanish newschool prods that really impressed me. the first scenes looked very promising but when I found out that there is no precache/"cache warming" routines written I got very dissapointed. So on my R9700 PRO every scene enters with a big slowdown. And I don't like 2fps on my card. There's a lot of visual bugs as well so a piggy from me. But It could rule If you would stay with the mood from beginning.

got to watch it after a tip from ithaqua - upgrade to the 56.64 driver (yes, nvidia) and you're home free. :)

the demo was absolutely gorgeous :) great effects, scenes, graphics and flow.. just too bad the music isn't as good as it could be.

really good demo. fast and smooth throughout on my less than cutting edge home pc, nice fx and graphics and very well designed. the best "traditional demo style" demo i saw in ages. only bad things are the lighting on the girl, and the music - tune was ok, but it sounded rather low sound quality.

For those who asked for a video version:
http://www.stravaganza.org/prods/sgz_arise.avi (512x384@60fps XVID+MP3, 119mb)

About some comments:
-It doesn't require a high-end cpu nor a pixelshader capable card. I developed it on a 1.5ghz cpu + geforce4MX 440 and it probably will run ok on a slower config (plain geforce1 or equivalent, and probably also slower cpu). Some parts require a lot of fillrate though.
The main problem is the RAM, it needs lots of it and I should've checked that. So on < 512mb configs there's a lot of memswapping going on, which is even worse than having a slow cpu or gfxcard.
-It won't run at 16bpp because It needs 8bits destination alpha which is only available at 32bpp. The destination alpha is used on the DOF effect.
-If it crashes try upgrading your drivers and/or emailing me the log.txt you get when you run the demo with the -log commandline option. That worked for some people :)

We want to change some things so maybe there'll be a final version.

this prod is very polished, finished, clean and cold, perhaps too much cold and it miss one important thing : emotions. it is very good and interesting technically but i had absolutly no emotions when seeing it. thumb up for the high level of the visuals.

For all those with the "No opengl 1.2 compatible driver installed" error, a fixed version is available using the same download link. I replaced the old one, which had a bug in the opengl extensions library I use and refused to run with opengl 2.0+ drivers.

Thanks to Gargaj for checking the sources and pointing me out where the error was.

Not sure about the bondage robot mixing in and out towards the end though. That art was great but reshowing it was unnecessary.
