Most of it is "classic ASD style". But the end scene. That's what makes the demo. The demo could only be that scene and it would be as breathtakingly transcendent then.
Bravo.
This is the ASD demo I've been waiting for since Evolution of Vision.

!
Actually the end scene didn't do it for me. But all the others did. :-) Brilliant.
Fucking awesome ASD is back
aMusic <3

WOW.
Music was not really my cup of tea.
But everything was classic ASD at his best.
And that end scene... So powerful, it's been a long time since a demo had given me that kind of emotions.

Definately a thumb! Very art style demo! Missed the WOW moments LifeForce brought me 8 years ago this evening :) But this is design and art on a whole other level! Keep it going Navis & Co !!
Out.Standing.Awesomeness.
Yeah. What do I even need to say...
Typically, intricate and extremely damn beautiful. And trippy. :-)
Some filler material, some cheesy music, but the family scene is among the most intensive I've seen in any demo.
Thanx for such a wonderful demo and congratulations.
The best demo of the asm 2015 !!!! great music ;) cool idéa and coding ;)
I love ASD forever !!!!!!!
I love ASD forever !!!!!!!
Awesome, and the end was just candy to the eyes and great emotion. Excellent music.
Amazing demo!
cool stuff!
Bravo ASD!
its been some time since a prod really got to me.
but you did it.
again.
but you did it.
again.
New ASD baby is great !
Return to the classic ASD style, best one since Rupture
@ Navis :
I am nostalgic for lifeforce and Happiness is Around the Bend....
For ASM 2016 ??? :)

Good stuff! Atmospheric, lovely and some scenes really struck me. Good job!
i like the particle-parts there's flying animals. nice music too.
YES!
It pains me to say it but it's not nearly as colorful and layered as I'd hoped, VERY well done but not my cup of tea at all with the guitar solos and pregnant women, sorry ;)
those transitions
WOW! ...so beautiful and what a flow...best ever asd demo!
nice visuals but the music made me stop the demo after 4 minutes..the bad dubstep drums i could take but the elevator horror after that was too much..
Beautiful.
.
This has a lot of wow factor!
so this is strange, I get a "Problem initializing FMod. No sound file." error when trying to extract and run. Win8 x64.
watched on yt, killer show!
Many beautiful effects but overall... meh. Totally deserves a thumb up for the effect that can be seen on the screenshot.

Same. Demo boots properly (loading screen and all) and then halts. Nothing regarding FMod in the log file either.
just fantastic.
No words.
Ok, the FMod trouble is this: http://i.imgur.com/hqstfK0.png. Someone forgot to add this file or not to load it. ;)
epik !
Awesome, just fantastic!
:)
Is that some French person speaking toward the end, or is it just my ears deceiving me?
Is that some French person speaking toward the end, or is it just my ears deceiving me?
RULEZ!
Beautiful stuff, obviously. I liked how this one was mostly quite subtle and consistent for an ASD "megademo", instead of feeling like 5 different demos stuck together. My only real gripes are that the kinect capture part (in the screenshot) seemed visually very disconnected from the rest of the demo, and the music could've used a little extra twist in it towards the end.
Navis: Jup. Noticed that too, as the error messages differ and there seemed to be no problem with file access rights etc. Still strange that the sound error msg slips through like that. Anyway, pls fix. I like to watch good demos in realtime and not rely on messy youtube caps.

Real life depth data captured with Mantis vision pocket camera and Kinect by Microsoft
Is it done with old Kinect for Xbox360 or modern Kinect 2 ?
a real demo as it should be. not this pseudo shit fillers we see all the time

Old Kinect.
abstract forms are hardest to master,it's way to easy to fall into pseudo-artism,I apreciate the final effect tho
awesome demo with a very disconnected ending , but still, very awesome demo.
Amazing as always, loved the finale scene, well done ASD!
Thanks for showing us that you're still the best at transitions :)
Awesomeness to the stars! Best visual effect I have EVER seen in demo. And greatly used. Whole effect makes demo trippy, abstract, magic. And those dreamy transitions, oh my gosh
Refreshing soundtrack, perfectly fitting to the mood of demo.
I must admit, in the end of demo I have tears in my eyes, yes it is a little pathetic, but nevermind, it´s a beauty itself crafted to a pc product.
ASD shows whole audience how to craft a beautifull and technically brilliant demo-nirvana, and it is a worthy a moral winner.
(my longest post to poet for 15 years :)

Cool
As a father of a little baby girl (yeah, finally living up to my nick) the ending really hit the spot. Great!
Fuck yeah! This is so great! I love you guys!
PS. Final scene reminded me of this: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/hoppe/hatching.pdf

full of peotry. as always you did a geat job.
They shoud get rid of that guitar-masturbating musician already. Otherwise, kickass!
Oh yes. Pretty serious jaw-dropping happened once again.
Looks and sounds nice but bored me.
What Stinger said, but I'm giving it a thumb nonetheless.
To have all these fantastic ideas and execute it in so fluid motion is amazing. Love it very much!
Wow... ASD delivers again :) Loved it from beginning to the end. Music was quite surprising :D
epic ride!
Some epic scenes, especially the sea particles.
I don't think I've seen a better executed painterly effect than the one in this one. A very mature demo in many ways.
Family-scene seems a little bit disconnected from the rest of the demo, because of the different style. But all looks really nice and the music is great.
Nice particle stuff and the color-light-painting effect in the end looked really, really good.
And as always with ASD, things in general simply look great - color choices, the amount of blur, movement paths etc. - these are things that can lift a demo that extra level.
Don't get what people are complaining about with the music, I think it has that certain "ASD-feel" that goes very well with the visuals.

Wow, beautiful!
Kinda mixed feelings about this. Recycled effects and transitions. But i liked the music more than effects, music fits nicely for the colorscheme and over all mood. Still, the best ASD demo musically, designally, codally, colorally is stillelally Animal Attraction :D
Love
i'm a simple man, i see asd, i press like
Amazing o_O
Golly have I missed your demos... Good to know you guys can still leave me teary-eyed. The scene with the mother and the child... left me completely breathless.
A masterpiece!
This belongs to an entirely new category rather than a standard demo compo.
How about a Beyond Demos Compo? Other groups should be pulling their design and direction together to make ASD run for its "money" next time.

Without a doubt, this is perfection! Totally what the demoscene is all about, to give it all in an elegant wrapped presentation! The last scene is really what makes "we are all connected - the connection must connect to the new generation". Really awesome!
great stuff but the music is not my cup of tea (again ;-)
Wow. Amazing.
WIE GEIL IST DAS DENN, BITTE?
It's really really good. But it's kind of what i expect from an ASD demo. You guys probably need to reinvent yourself to give people a true blast. Still, its very very good
Great presentation. So polished and keeps on giving, but that's kinda what you expect from ASD. Sorta agree what Pap said, there weren't any surprises. Last part was great.
Something something + an overused platitude.
Really great demo, particles fest! it's a bit long but not boring at all (except for the last scene with couple mocap, let's forgot this awkward one).
I especially loved the "waves at moonlight" and "monolith goes to the sky" scene :)

Wow, stricken by the beauty and powerful emotions of this demo, I love it! Thanks so much.
Not bad.
Damn the vibe is this is amazing.
Great demo!

Funny how we can have so such a different taste, I found this to be one of the most touching scenes the demoscene produced in a long time. It really struck me and hit an emotional nerve in a good way. Besides that it looked awesome as well. The storytelling in that scene is just epic, it goes way furtrher than expected from a demoscene production, touching some heavy themes in a happy, positive way.Really great demo, particles fest! it's a bit long but not boring at all (except for the last scene with couple mocap, let's forgot this awkward one).
Awesome
well, there are stuff in there that we have seen before but it's the way they are combined that makes this demo quite unique :)
Thanks, ASD. You are BEST!
Yet another masterpiece!
It crashed halfway through; I don't see anything obvious in the log (just many shader warnings) but let me know if you're interested.
Also, the aspect ratio was all messed up for most resolutions I tried. :(
I'll have a look at the capture later.

Awesome. I really like the ocean scene. Kinda reminded me of Lifeforce (I was half-expecting / hoping for a nuclear explosion).
Some re-use of concepts and tech as per usual from ASD, and the musical style is not my cup of tea although I have to admit it works together with the visuals.
But apart from that... what a wonderful demo! Fantastic colors, jaw-dropping transitions between scenes and color schemes, awesome "story-telling" and atmosphere, and I didn't find the last scene awkward at all, just the contrary - I could relate to it and it touched me. Just wonderful!

You know what, it's a much better watch the second time than it was the first, although the video processing scene feels painfully flow-breaking and the demo ends rather abrupt after that.
My big problem is - as always - with the sound mix, which this time shows admirable restraint on the guitars (which still sound horrid) but the orchestral library would've needed some tweaks on the envelopes, and the whole mix is all over the place. I think this is the point where you will need an outside ear to take a listen before you call it done.

Great stuff!
Music+second track with sfx. Just think about it while watching...
Somethings I liked in this and somethings I didn't. But overall it is a great demo and the tech behind it is very clever.
4 minutes longer than it should be. Love the visuals. Music + mastering was far off from my taste (as usual in ASD prods).
knowing the personal backgrounds etc i can understand the significance of the end part, but it was quite disconnected to the rest of the demo in visual style and emotionally. nonetheless the "first part" was a good show and good continuation on that effect you did as noiseprod earlier with ps :)
With all due respect for your technical brilliance, Navis - i love the looks but i can't stand the content. Monolith symbolism, morphing animals, that crow (again). And that birth scene INCLUDING baby samples.
The strings pulled here are off my cheese-scale. I just can't stand James Cameron movies either. Sorry.

Beautiful and touching. As a classical violinist the music really touched me (especially the start where the orchestra was tuning). You really don't get that kind of things much in demos. As a demo coder I admire your style, flow and the technical skills.
Beautiful as always.
Good flow with effects and music!
I really like the particles, colours, music and actually everything in this demo.
Masterfully done in every way, the music is AMAZING! WOW!! However, I felt the child birth / baby scene went on for too long and did not impress as much as everything shown before it :)
This easily goes along with other top ASD demos from the past, keep it up!

I'm really troubled - totally appreciate the effort with all of this fantastic visuals, concept and hours of hard work on coherence and color optimization. On the other hand it's simply as boring as most of the other ASD demos, with music which drives me insane. Tried to watch it without audio and gave up in, say, 2/3 of it. Just not my cup of tea :/
Thumb up for the deserved winning of the compo. I have already forgot what was the demo about :)

Stunning visuals. Good length to dive into. Music has its ups and downs although i find the variety of sounds and interpretation of the same theme really enjoyable. Loved the ride and for sure will take it again.
The world needed a demo with a hug <3
aMUSIC, damn - you're right! I swear i heard something babyi-ish. Nevertheless...
no words to describe this..
well done.
well done.
Yet another ASD masterpiece. Watching it all day long!
Beatiful to look at, but a bit boring to watch. Nevertheless a stellar effort.
Cool.. New music for my training! :)
hmm, honestly this is a hard one.
almost a really amazing demo with brilliant visuals and the usual excellent transitions and so much happening on the screen that you just want to watch it again and again to see whats all happening ...
... if it just wasnt for that waaaaay to long anticlimax from 5:50 to 7:30.
all in all very well done for sure, but somehow it left me with a feeling of less (cheesyness) would have been more (amazing).

What's the story in this demo? Especially in the last scenes.
Quote:
The sound heard on that scene is a monologue in French, from the movie Jeux d'enfants.
Which would make it a violation of Assembly rules.

a very worthy winner
Navis: it probably would, except Finnish law doesn't recognize "fair use".
(I still haven't made up my mind about the demo, comment later... I did like it though)

beautiful visuals. asd demos are always cheesy but never generic.
Sure, regarding the prod itself, but I was referring to possible violations regarding the Assembly compo rules. Personally I'm completely fine with it though, I don' think there's anything morally wrong here.
It's been a while and you are still there :). Thank you for that. It's time for us to finally make a move.
Navis: noby is right that Finland doesn't recognize Fair Use, but I am not debating on the legal side of the issue here. I was just pointing out that legal or not, using a sample from a copyrighted source violates Assembly competition rules. Rules which apply to all entries, especially this year when all demos were broadcast live on national tv.
Solid as always! Great job. Personally the music was not my favorite but still awesome.
Finally an ASD demo that really did leave me breathless. Maybe a bit too long for a demo-competition..?
Great job.
Great job.
It is a pleasure to watch indeed. Additional plus is a subtle message behind, maybe nothing conceptually/psychologically new, but at least it looks honest and personal. And visual form/expression fits the message very well.
Overall, I get impression that (for a while already) ASD stopped actually competing, but just have fun and realizing their dreams (like Mrs Escher's Nightmare ;)). And they actually can aford it and deserve it :)
The only remaining question is: how about VR version? (just kiddding :))

Just beautiful. I love it and I savored every seconds of it, and will do again and again in the future and more. Thank you very much for making this.
7/10
Beautiful is such a weak word...
Indeed
Awesome, truly awesome!
Cute and stuff but ASD demos are getting too samey. Just not my cup of tea anymore.
I think it needs another up thumb. boing!
Mindmelting!
hmmmm... felt like a boring soulless demo :|
annoying shaking camera movements tilt it from pig to thumb down here

Well done!
In general, this wasn't really my cup of tea, but the final scene really, really, REALLY rocks.
Bonzaj: may i suggest Revision 2016 for Plastic's comeback? :) Been missing you to :) Buzka :)
Any possibility for a 4K youtube version?
This is a demo with two clear parts that cry to be joined with something more tan a fade out. I would tried to mix the rendering also. Apart of that and some small particles that go trough big ones (sorry, I am a perfectionist, you know that from the jury preview), this is a great demo although I would ask for more protagonism in the music, like in previous demos.
And yes! you need more sound effects!!! of course there are some, but there are scenes with the monolith that feel pretty disconnected from the music without them.
True clear winner amongst the other demos at assembly. Loved it!

Most beautiful and disturbing production Ive seen in a long while. Great stuff.
What I liked most in this prod is how you used strings to achieve different effects or transitions, flowing through shapes or adding sudden intensity. Very nice.
Some parts felt out of place though. The camera direction change at 3'20 shocked me; it doesn't make sense and feels unjustified.
The ending scene has a visually very pleasing painting style, but not only it is completely different from the visual style of the rest of the demo, it is served as is after a fade to black, making it feel disconnected both from before and after parts (final credits screen). Its content also feels completely disconnected.

Really loved it. The end part would have made a jawdropping demo on it's own. Our jaws were allready dropped to our knees at that point!!..Awesome guys
seriously! thank you once again for continuously creating this fantastic art from a place beyond! i really wanna hang stills from this all over my bedroom! wow wow wow!
pretty amazing. the last scene is really magical!
Well fucking done. This is art.
very high quality in all aspects.
amazing demo. an absolute pleasure to watch - good work!
Last part is lovely, both music and graphics. But this demo for me is slightly ruined by the horrible camera shaking. It just doesn't fit and feels unnatural. I understand the attempt to make everything feel organic but for me this artificial over shaking ruins it.
Fresh! Unpredictable! Beautiful!
It's beautiful, thanks for making this!
King of particles!
Loved it. Virtuosic technique, wonderful deliberate style, particles/motion/capture is the next level, the imagery/symbolism maybe just slightly heavy-handed but that is subjective, for the most part very evocative.. Respect for keeping the prog rock vibe in the traditional ASD style!
Breathtaking.
What to say? This is beautiful.
Stunningly beautiful production. It started slow but then it really hit me
HUGE thumbs up for the come back!! made my year! thank you for the memories and the new prod that i will enjoy for a long time! greetings from your fans in Australia! demo or die!
Pretty pleasant to see. Music is also good and well mixed, and so fitting with the demo itself.
Words cannot be used when I saw this demo… I´m speechless…
I follow pouet for more than 10 years…and I was waiting for just on more great production from you guys…
Thank you!
“Nunca desistam de ser quem são! Um abraço!”

Fucking awesome!
This deserves a thumbs up no doubt... however some criticism:
- The rendering technique gets boring after a while (good thing you change it by the end)
- The continual shaky cameras are pretty much nonsensical: there's nothing either visually or musically that would hint that a camera should shake
Otherwise, impressive piece of work, both technically and artistically

Really good for being a PC demo!
Nice demo
Oh man, so much emotion in that last scene. I truly love this, in an indescribable way. Truly.
Great!
Stunning, and that ending.
This is just awesome!
asd never worked for me and it never will. and i'm okay with that.
the last effect leaves the demoscene behind its just pure art
one step ahead
Very cool mix of beautiful abstract and concrete objects + as someone noticed on YT, the music evolves nicely with the animation. Superbe.
A very remarkable piece, it shows that it's true artists at work here!
That's just... beautiful !!! Thanks for this masterpiece of demo ! LOVE IT !
a bit too cheesy for me, but obvious thumb:
Always hyped for ASD demos. It's been a long wait but I enjoyed this a lot, beautiful particles with ambient occlusion and cool transitions, but the end scene could've used something more to sell the realtime effect and the depth element of the kinect footage.
After watching it in realtime noticing all the details that weren't visible on the asm stream it feels like i've seen an entirely different demo. Need to take back my comment, now I had a true blast ! You guys rock hard
beautiful!
Unfortunately I keep losing my focus when watching this. At times there's too much movement going on all over the screen and the camera shaking doesn't help either. Also I really appreciate the amount of planning and work it takes to pull off these really long camera "shots" and the general seamlessness but I just dislike the idea when it comes to 3d scenes. It just seems too limiting to me. Anyway lot's of really good stuff. The ending segment for example. Maybe felt a bit cheesy but wth. It's good.
fuknossm.
Well, fuck me sideways. Not only do you guys deliver consistently stunning demos, you've been doing it nonstop for over ten years now. That alone deserves neverending applause.
As for Monolith, I love how you manage to make the particles look like confetti with the soft shadows. Also that last scene is not only visually awesome, it's also full of emotion and tells a story.
Extra kudos to aMUSIC and Leviathan for once more making a fitting and atmospheric soundtrack.

Awesome particles and well... I though you'd never outdo your NPR tech that you used in Spin... and then came the end scene.
Glorious, some fantastic effects.
Nice particles and paint effect.
Great, lovely visuals, as always. Soundtrack is also much better done than usual I'd say, although that electronic kick seems to lack a bit of oomph and the music seems somewhat disconnected from the visuals at times (e.g. around 4:50 in the capture - occasional absolute silence but the visuals just keep going). Still:
Magical indeed. Top shelf material.
boring in parts, thumb for continuing what ASD actually is.
Very innovative design and effects, beautiful song, impressed me!
Morphing mades it.
nice some visuals and melodies. especially journey on sea part.
Oh... ohhhh. Okay, I definitely need a new GPU now.
great storytelling, beautiful visuals
Humpback whale! Multiple Saturns! Particles that makes you feel dirty and you don't mind it! Soundtrack was a bit mainstream for me (I guess... not demoish enough, or something...), and yes, we all know hugging and family life are um positive things. Flock of birds was a bit much. Some of the inspirations from Kubrick obviously.
A hundred and twenty megabytes, zipped, ...oof.
So ASD-fanboi-afflicted thumb I guess. Sue me :)

WOW !
This was a nice trip. The particles completely rock... the family scene was not my cup of tea, it felt completely disconnected.
Navis: Litte question about the particles. Seems to me, that they are not sorted but using alpha-test or alpha-to-coverage?

I like it because the particles and the way they're handled remind me of flt demos
it was less random than other asd prods, but the soundtrack just hurt my ears somehow.
Beautiful
especially I like those parts with "harder" music and cloud morphing visuals, crazy good between 2nd and 4rd minute; getting back on 5th + pleasing semi-drawn style at the end;
meaning? my impression: reincarnation story? monolith = our families = know each others for many generations.
Looking forward for explanation directly from Navis. :)

epic
ASD can always be relied upon for the most impressive and beautiful demos of any year of the past ten years. I don't know how they do it
rulez

screen display in 1440p it's possible ?????
Impressive
Lovely demo, especially the last part!
pure flow!
late thumb
hated the scene with pregnant women, but some of the visuals were ok. music is also nothing good to me.
Visuals and music with amazing synchronisation - perfect !
Many Thanks.
Many Thanks.
That's my style! Last scene was so... touching.
Loved it. Especially in the last scene.
Awesome demo! I'm amazed at the fluid flow of the whole piece. And I find that last scene to be the best. It gives a nice human touch and the rendering style makes it look like something happening within the mind rather than in front of your eyes. And the scene is really well placed with the music in that part. Kind of a release
Mindblowing
Fucking Amazing. Not just amazing. Fucking amazing.
Sublime balance between chaos and order, between familiar beauty and surprises. This goes for both visuals and music. Almost makes me believe PC could be a demo platform.
The last scene is probably my favourite demo scene effect ever. Still amazing and somehow more touching than the high fidelity motion captures of sisyphos.
