What's the story behind not releasing this as CNCD or FLT+CNCD ?
Anyway after seeing it a couple of times loosing a bit of it's magic.
And those particles and some design we have seen them earlier in CNCD / FLT prods.
However Destop+Yolk active in 2014 is worth a thumb alone..

That was a nice surprise at the party. It's smash style particles but with good flow/music sync. To tell you the truth, I saw the group name and I was like oh surprise from new group, but now I see Smash is coder, hehe :)

Recycled stuff again and again, it is starting to be a bit boring, but demo has feeling, design and somewhat direction so I give you my thumb.
Looks fekking rubbish on pootube and sadly I don't have a machine anywhere near powerful enough to run it in real time (or know anyone near by who has!). However, its wicked. Soundtrack in particular is rather stunning, who made it?

Watching the stream and seeing the info card first and seeing a demo by "one studio off" coming up - I thought "WTF? a new group getting one of the last spots in the compo, this must be damn good debut...". Then after a couple of seconds of demo "Aha... This must be a good old Smash demo!" :)

I agree on the "recycled" stuff is getting old. But this looks nice, a bit repetitive though. The whole composition has an awesome "film-like" production that I like.

Excellent atmosphere, style, design - I love it. The end is a bit oddly timed, though. Apart from that, the pacing is ace.
Effect-wise it's indeed getting a bit old by now. I'm 95.272% sure there are technical subtleties and innovations I don't get, so I only say this as a viewer/consumer - but since I can't do better, I probably better shut up now. :)

Certainly Eye and Ear candy. Expect this needs some out if this world hardware on steroids as even the YT video lags :P so hope some nice beem team at some random party who possess anabolic hardware will run this in a demoshow sooner than later.

It is a single effect demo with vector graphics stolen from the internet. Sorry if I'm not lyrical. Maybe it is because I also failed to see any beauty in Numb Res? I appreciate the effort and codewise it is awesome, that is why I didn't thumbed this down. At the end it is just plain vectors that are getting blown up. Like in Panic, without the blowing up part.
I'm not a bad guy: I allow people to have a different opinion :p

I never thought I'd see a demo like this ever again. To me it's a throwback to the timeless designs from 15 or so years ago. Especially the soundtrack made me fall in love, I didn't even dare to hope to hear something like this in a top-class demo ever again. There's a simple concept at play here that carries everything perfectly and even wraps around the visual style extremely well. The word salads are absolutely essential and not filler. Personal preferences aside, this is the perfect demo.
Simply amazing at the party, sitting in the back row (no neck pains!) right in the middle. Very smart choice for releasing this under a new name. If I had seen "Fairlight&Cncd" or something on the slide before this, I immediately would've watched this differently with annoying expectations in my mind. Instead I could just sink into it's voluptuousness and enjoy it to the fullest, kudos. It was an honour to compete and lose.

Certainly "nothing new" but in this case that means it's still ahead of pretty much anything in the scene right now. Instead of complaining about that, make a demo about it and force Smash to spend another winter coming up with algorithms :)

No go on my anicent, updated Windows XP Pro SP3 machine since it wanted DirectX 11. :P So, I had to watch its video capture. It was OK.

Humble prod with an outstanding level of quality.
I thought I'd wait a bit to comment, to see if any mysteries revealed themselves and make sure I didn't say anything wrong. Funny how smash hasn't said anything yet. I suppose the idea here was to prove they could win a compo even without any famous name or group attached to it (I mentally rearranged the letters of One Studio Off find a hidden name, like cncd fairlight orange :). I admire a self-challenge, like this or entering a 64k intro in a demo compo. But I'm disappointed to figure out who did it so easily. Predictable particle porn, grayscale vignette, and nonsense phrases. Actually, Smash could have just passed Demolition off to Destop and let him do the whole thing. That's just speculation though.
I can't really fawn over the black and white design scheme when it has been done
over and over and over again. But I guess it has an advantage in that you can't get the colors wrong. :)

Prominent example from the demo:
Nixon, when he uttered the immortal words "I'm not a crook" totally believed to be honest from his moral pole or at least spilling a harmless "white" lie for the press.
From the other pole of the moral compass it was an outright lie in a context of capital crime.
So no, no nonsense "text" in there; not even the Sir Mix-a-lot line :D

The word you are looking for is "concept"; This is a (high) concept demo. That is a story demo. :) (yes, I'm aware that in marketing circles everything is an "experience" and has to have a "story" to sell something, but that's not the context here.)

I love the story and music. Technically impressive as well, but this will stand even years after the effects would wear (if they didn't already). I also like how many people did notice it has story, makes me somewhat more optimistic about mankind.

just watched this in realtime on my GTX 970, runs smooth as silk @1080, and it looks so much cleaner in realtime as opposed to youtube, really nice demo.
Pretty much a perfect demo from my point of view. Liked the music and the visuals. It may be "just one effect", but the whole thing is polished and put together so well that imo it is not boring at all.

Wonderful prod. Everything fits together, especially the soundtrack. Tech is alright. Theme is nice too, I like the minimalist style. Makes me wish I do the same in my own prods to make up for my lack of art sense.
I can fully understand why releasing as a unknown group though. Helps take away every single bit of bullshit associated with namevoting and enables a prod to purely stand on its own technical and artistic merits. Which every prod should. Scene politics should have zero to do with a prod. Favoritism gets nowhere and shouldn't exist.

@mudlord, I get your point, but can you seriously, honestly, start watching this and really not know whodunnit? It is a little pompous to say it, but it is just like when Bernoulli recognized that the anonymous solutions of his problems were actually done by Newton (we recognize the lion by his claw).
When I watched it initially, yes, I had zero clue. Plus now it came out Smash did nothing apart from handing his framework to mazor and destop, so yes, genuinely I had no clue.

I get goosebumps every time I hear yolk's track on my demo and favorites playlists in foobar. I think it is absolutely criminal to be this good. It would've been enough to just show a static black screen to get an emphatic "yes" out of me—but no, you've also made a perfectly stylish demo around it! That's overkill!

It's not an ambitious approach to lyrics but it gets the job done here. But in any case it's the music that ultimately carries the tone and encourages the viewer not to seek any deep meaning in that which may—or may not—be a lie.
