"wait, is that music in sync that i´m listening to ? it is ! AWESOME !"
then i found the vsync-versions and thought:
"wtf !?! the music is actually sounding really good and the patterns are beautiful when not that fast ! MEGA-AWESOME !"
i like the hypnotizing "i wont press ESC yet, just another pattern..."-feeling in the 3GHz-Version ( without vsync, really fast so to say ) the most tho !

It's a cellular automaton. Each cell is represented by two fixed-point "densities" u(x,y) and v(x,y). u(x,y) is drawn each frame (interpolated from 160×200 to 320×200).
Densities in the next frame are
u += A·∆u − 3uv² + 0.04·(1−u)
v += B·∆v + 3uv² − C·v
A,B,C change for each preset. (These rules are called Gray-Scott reaction-diffusion)

I suppose this is technically really impressive, and I like how there's music, but the visuals seemed to be "just" some plasma repeating itself with different parameters... not that interesting to me.
Never thought that after all these 3D-ish 256b something 2D and classic could ever impress me. Simply amazing. The only problem is that I've got reboot after pressing ESC.

This thing, as far as I could see it in dosbox (fortunatelly many cycles would do the trick) is already great. I might try it in my pentium laptop for more speed (time to utilize that USB floppy drive I bought, since I have dos here and I don't want to burn more CDs :).
There are so many different patterns and colours if you leave it running and a tiny tune that is nice and fits. The code is interesting and is documented and you can see there the many different values for different patterns with cool sounding names :)

A fairly decent texture generator in 256 bytes coupled with some animation and "music" (a step up from the "random" notes approach in some other prods, polyphony should be next).
It's pretty cool alright, but I'm a bit baffled reading all those euphoric "OMG" comments. :)
