58mb for a demo is a little big but cool prod.!!

"after 5 years of silence, orange is back in town" :)
(or rather 4)
well, just der piipo, and he's been back already :)
plenty of names to vote for here, but yeah, it does stand up to their levels of quality. killer soundtrack.

i liked the fisheye lens fx especially on the train-graffiti, the rest was pretty seen before
best demo ever (noticed the lack of caps)
58mb for a demo... hum...
58mb for a demo... hum...
58mb for a demo is fine! it's 2007 people!
Nice work, more of the same doesn't have to be bad :) Though I didn't really like the crappy videogame part.
Cube effect was beautiful though!

Yups!
this really rules :)
great artwork, and that smoke is amazing!
KILLAH!
love that tune
great effects

massive !
nope, sorry, everything i said about halfsome applies here as well, twice as much.
this is not a demo, this is a "best of" from 5 different demos (that didn't get released), none of which has anything to do with any of the others. adding the same cookie cutter design elements ("let's put some arrows and lines here!) is not direction. using the by now trademark (for flt) graffiti-style logos regularly is not coherence. and the soundtrack even manages to underline (or reflect?) how this demo stubbornly refuses to become a whole.
don't get me wrong: pick any of the individual elements - 2d, meshes, lighting, the individual segments of the tune, the effects - and it's nothing short of truly excellent work. but the complete lack of any direction (this demo literally doesn't know where it's going!) drags it down tremendously; far worse than just leaving a bad taste in my mouth, it completely ruins the experience for me. hence the piggy.

correcties, didn't catch frank and sulphur in the list the first time around..
ok demo with same boring ribbons
runs with seriously glitches in my machine :(
okkie no it is not fine: it's not fine when you can have a video with the same quality and duration with less than 60MB! The demoscene is suposed to be about realtime, not about pre-rendered stuff, for that you would submit all your demos to animation/film festivals. I know it's just the way how [b]I[/i] see it.
Holy fucking yes. This is awesome shit.
one thing i've noticed playing the home game, this is an absolute resource hog. takes a good minute to load, and another minute to quit before the whole desktop comes back, and that's on a core 2 duo. compare with lifeforce, which takes a few seconds to load and quit.
The smoke is quite cool.
I have no idea what kind of configuration this requires but the loading time was insane and then the demo ran a 10 fps on my machine (6600 GT with Athlon 2GHz).
Will wait for a proper version or something to give it a thumb up. I tend to agree with Ryg by the way.

moral winner. I still agree that there's too much loose bits and the flocking galvatron/master chief retards in the middle just feel completely out of place (and no smash, lack of collision in flocking is not a good thing). However, a visual feast.
x1600 here. Runs, yet various fps drops happen. I admit this is a very impressive demo - I expected nothing less either way. Cheers
smoke
can anyone actually read that weird hip-hoppity graffito tag writing?
Excellent except that it's a bit boring.
What ryg said. Perhaps three groups was a bit too much for one demo?
But I'll give you my upthumb for the city and the smokebox...
But I'll give you my upthumb for the city and the smokebox...
great
A CNCD & Orange demo would have been interesting, but now... just another Fairlight demo.
meh ... resolution does not improve the visuals, the whole seems out of concept and demands performance giving no justification for that. Well and the filesize ...
ja nee... ~60MB and you don't manage to make the textures look sharp OR get rid of that long precalc? one of both would have been nice...
oh... and here's my thumb
the cmokebox however looked good
the smokebox however looked good
something between Greeble City & The Ronin.

ok it's surely a party prod. but it could have been really great!
Very nice, but I agree with the posters above. Seemed to lost all narrative and direction after the ghetto feelings the intro part gave me. Still, I like it very very much.
Crashed at the end of the demo. ( Restart )
killer demo .. city part and smoke simulation are very good.
... but you need more than 1GB of RAM to watch this properly.

Too slow here but great on the stream. I love the fishbowl view and the style!
This looked quite stunning on the stream, but also quite incoherent. Waiting for the video.
Looks like typical FLT attributes apply though: Weird slowness of demo on any hardware.

ace, as always. the 1st smoke box was massive.
cool effects and fresh scenes. just wish there were more of it, and better direction

It runs pretty much ok on my MBP, even on battery mode. You're doing it wrong.
Ryg stated already what I had in my mind.
I also realized perhaps my gripe with Fairlight demos lately comes from mixing realistic looking scenes together in a sense that doesn't make sense. In more abstract style demos you don't mind if there's no connection between the parts, but more realistic approach would require some kind of storyline.
It looks really awesome in places. The soundtrack is brilliant as well. Also, works better for me than Halfsome, so here's your thumb. :)

long precalc, slow show, then freeze+swap and pressed esc. x1400 512mb, core2 1.8, 1gb. maybe a final...
I kind of expected more, neverthe less this dirty, subreal demo somehow stimulated my processing mind drifting away to some old polluted area in part unknown, where the ground is black and white, but the clouds are green, the sky is indigo, the robots are azure. Well, it's not a bad production, the elevator just didn't make all the way up. Data Or Die!
MASSIVE content and effort! I like this style with all it's graffitis, arrows and growing lines, even if we have seen this in all previous FLT demos already. The fishy camera is also really cool. Unfortunately the soldiers don't fit into the rest of the demo and music is just boring. Let Gargaj or Little Bitchard make a tune for one of your next demos and we will be blown away :-)
Plenty of things to look at and not as incoherent as their previous demos.
so slow... may be video? please.
the soundtrack was a killer, but somehow this didn't work for me as a whole, even though it was technically and artistically awesome and innovative.
no infofile again :/
even tho 80% of the demo looks like "recycling galore" (ok, "fairlight: megamix"), and, as usual, it's slow like hell, can't resist to such a rocking content, so, here's the thumb. mk12 in realtime ftw!

Dunno what to think of this one, it got some kickass scenes but its kinda not a good flow in this one and the last scene with that game character thingies was just way ugly and boring. A piggie.
yeh, no worksý on computer, video plz
slow as flying fuck, but holy hell it looks nice! love those cameramovments and the feel of it all, the smoothness. it kinda makes sense to me, seeing those lines dominating more and more, rising up from the underground. but the characters made no point?
it was ok. the smoke (around the train) was excellent.
Anaglyph???? Good Demo.
Yum!
I just wonder, does all of these people (the coders and the artists) work at the same game company? i cant understand how they did this demo without some form of verbal mediation or whatever..
fresh shit, but i second ryg on this one... the scenes themself were ace, and i really love the feeling of the first parts.
but it just feels so unfinished.
there is connetion between the parts... but they are not so good.. and the camerawork just feels boring.

fantastic! you could have made the robots knock the camera a few more times as they ran past it I think :)
This must have been a shitload of work. Still the result is as incoherent as it can get, the soundtrack is annoying (don't get me wrong, I can enjoy music like this when it's done live by three stoned people with some synth equipment at some small club, but there's a reason those sessions almost never get recorded), and the whole thing is SO not my cup of tea.
Some sporadic visual beauty in between saves it from a thumb down tho... in the hope that next time you all think about what you're doing instead of being so desparately wannabe post-modern.

very disappointing, considering the proud announcements how unbeatable fairlight felt.
maybe the graphics are worth the large size and long depacking phase, but why put that ugly RGB distortion on top of everything? image post processing is the key to making things look great, but in this case it made things look crappy.
the fisheye would have been innovative a year ago, but here it further reduces image quality to a blurry mess.
if you have a couple robots running around, you could at least make sure they don't run through each other.
and then there is the "brilliant" moment where the audience gets completly lost...

haiiil the smokebox!!
The graphics are generally awesome. Especially the grafitti on the train stands out as particularly excellent.
There are these small touches where the 3d is accompagnied by some matching web 1.0 designer graphics which look great (robot + stars + diagonal orange lines ruled).
Also I liked the rgb distort effect in the black and white scenes, but not in the ones which had colour from before.
Cool to see some characters too. Maybe flocking behaviour can become the new demo rage effect after growing lines.
Have to watch it a few more times. There is something missing, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it is the medley style of the music. That always annoys me. It happens in movies all the time though. I have the same problem with matrix 3 for example. :)

yeah... very slow and... innovative... for smoke and the beginning and style THUMB UP
oooooooooops
Soso...for todays standards...
a vid would be nice - it totaly crashed here :-(
doesn't hold.
too much stuff not connected enough. as well make 3 ruling demo than one incoherent mess, even if made of impressing and nice stuff.
and as it's been said, too much of post effect.
and as it's been said, too much of post effect.
The graffiti in the first part is absolutely awesome. And also some other parts are looking beautiful, but, really a pity, there's too slow a flow to the show.
Enjoyed the show
This demo had one good effect and a fisheye we've seen before. Fisheye was nice at the start with the trains - that looked phat, but it's overused. Smoke box - cool, but fails to hold the rest of the demo up.
I'm not buying it. I think Fairlight are close to exhausting their repertoire which is a great shame and painful to me. Piggy since I still feel some love.

After rewatching some of the entries, i would say this is my favourite from the democompo. Yes it's big and slow at some points, but the graphics are goddamn amazing, the smokebox is really cool and so is the music.
It's not perfect though, maybe that's why i like it ;)

Visuals could have been a bit more synched to the music. Other than that, fuckin' great show guys.
Slow as fuck on my computer here...

Oh and I forgot to mention, i love the fisheye and the helicopters. The helicopters crown the city scene.
I'm blown away again by this team. This is just so damn stylish and the team have put in a shit load of thought as well as effort.
Didn't like the music this time though. It was way too empty and lifeless. Otherwise, WOW!

it's amazing to see how when FLT is up all of the sudden some individuals turn into sensitive, demanding critics who otherwise couldn't care less about the notorious repetitiveness and lack of concept in the demoscene. i don't get it. seems it's becoming fashionable now to nag on FLT.
well, what do i care. to mee, FLT again managed to stay on top of everyone else simply through their utter elegance, aesthetics, visual ideas and keen sense for style. yes, they keep going in their vein. but heck, so do most of you. and yet, one shot of this is still way sexier than most of the rest. well, i have my moral winner : P

Like many previous FLT demos, this has the same problem. Lot's of things I really don't like in demos, including the "colours", lack of consistency, too much boring 3d with a bunch of lines going around them.. List goes on..
I would pour into two extra ounces of CNCD and ORANGE and perhaps hold back some of the FAIRLIGHT flour to bake the perfect demo from this.
No need to thumb it down :)
No need to thumb it down :)
Monroe: you are now hired to do my writing.
video please
This one sent some shivers through my hardware, but that aside I think it is very good. The grafitti on the trains is an exercise in style and I also like the brave use of the fisheye. I can see how this is not to everybody's taste, and it can feel a bit cold at times, but the downthumbers here really need to get out more.
Also, the incoherency criticism that has been applied to this and other recent demos baffles me a bit. Is a demo incoherent if it contains more than just the reuse of one or two routines, if it doesn't have a storyline or if its not built on the same damn recognizable demoengine for the fiftieth odd time? Variety is too often mistaken for incoherency, and that also applies here.

Archmage: If I wasn't horribly tired and unable to construct valid sentences, I would have written what just did, so kudos for your post -- I wholeheartedly agree.
Resusing engines sucks anyways :)
Listen to loaderror, monroe and archmage. Ignore ryg, kb and chaos.
great music and great overall style.
i like it :)
i like it :)
i also have to agree with archmage.
the visuals were just awesome and while the music didn't really stand out as anything special it did complement the visuals in my opinion (like in a motion graphics demo reel for example). The helicopters at the end were a really nice touch and I think the athmosphere was pretty consistent as it did kinda feel like "something criminal" was going on throughout the demo.

and yes, please do ignore the farbrausch guys...
For those asking for a video: Link added. ;)
It´s too slow and too boring. Music isn´t my taste and 58MB is much more than you get...
Brilliant graffiti logos, very nice soundtrack, damn cool smokebox.. I was also glad to see a cityscape which actually looks good (haven't seen that in demos often). Too bad about the overlapping characters though, and the city scene was quite flybyish and uneventful towards the end. Great trip nevertheless.
Oh, and what Archmage said.
Oh, and what Archmage said.
Oh, and nice to see Eetu back in action :)
coherence it's not about everything looking the same. it's the difference between 10 minutes of random video snippets from an archive and a short film, the difference between a band playing and five solo performers standing on the same stage all trying to one-up each other. and the latter is exactly what this demo feels like for me.
@mazor_ : it seems that your can´t handle very good with criticism...
my voting is just my opinion about this production - nothing more and nothing less

fairlight is brillant ( once again)
RA: whatever, but get a new nickname.
very "new" media :)
still though, i sort of like it - made me a bit nostalgic...
i don't think it's less coherent then your usual demo: it has a certain flavour which runs through the whole production, and then there's of course that playful atmosphere.
yeah ok, it's no masterpiece but hey hey hey HEY!

Much better in the 720P video than on the AsmTV stream. The fluid is really cool.
It's much better than the second place but the parts don't fit together.
Watched it on my PC at work (Core2 + 7800 GT), it's faster but still slow here and there for some reason I did not get.
One can argue about the use of growing lines, arrows and graffitis one more time, but the demo is still worth a thumb up.

maybe if it didnt precalc for 5 minutes and the soundtrack was any decent..
I eventually like this one. My only complaint is about the music that lacks of consistency. The intro loop is killer (the part with the train and graffitis) then it fades to something far less interesting made of bad deep house or something IMHO. The sound ain't that great.
BTW, it runs smoothly enough here (AMD 2400+, 1Gb, Nv 7600GS) to spare me epilepsy :)

smash: can you provide a soundtrack in mp3 ?
Cool fluids, but I didn't like the music...
Overall very nice but the scenes are not connected in a bit of a way, music was ok, so weak thumb up
The fluid sim is cool but the RGB distortion was annoying as hell. The graffiti thing beings to feel old after so many FLT demos featuring it.
very stylish, maybe little bit boring though
giant size,..but it looks pretty cute
I love that music!
every thing is tiny, cute, softy, shaded, and put in the right place, with all that "wires+hoses" around, visually fantastic.
I dislike the unexpected final, looks like kinda unfinished.

Ah-yeUUH! This was miles better than Halfsome.
Awsome graff! (Daim would be proud ;)
The track is probably the best produced track of all the demotracks (imo) Really like the tech-house in the 2nd part with the cityline.
Awsome smoke-in-the-box effect.
Too slow on my 3800+ 2.41GHZ,1Gb,GF6600GT though....but who cares ;)

Something like detroit techno
Quite similar to Carl Craig or Jeff mills imo.
especially to "psyche bfc - elements 1989-1990"
or La noche Escabrosa-Sat-07-12-2006-hsalive ep. :D
yeah, music rulez.
So, smash - one more time, can you provide soundtrack in mp3 ? :P

if you know the secrets of the flt demosystem you know how to obtain the track, just try to unpack the exe with winrar or something ;)
o_O
Thanks ! :D
Thanks ! :D
very cool design and optic.
I love it also if the whole demo hasn't a focus or concept ...
urban flt mishmash once more!
keep it on

well. in few moments sounds even like Steve Bug and his label. yeah... So detroit techno & funky minimal i would say. Whatever. Music kick ass, maybe some instruments could be better.
In visual aspect - nice city scene... inspired by GreebleCity "animation" i think.
Maybe not very well done. The whole thing seems to lack direction.
Anyway thumb up

It crashes each time after the end of the military androids section, just when a cube appears. Music playing in the background, and the picture is back to the desktop.
Sure, it was kinda random and some of the stuff was a bit tired, but hey. I still liked it and it looked cool.
Well, apart from the sheer abundance of dll's, obviously.

I cannot put the finger on what makes this one so different to Halfsome. I completely agree to all the stuff ryg said. But after watching most entries for a few times, "media error" leaves a more decent impression to me. The images just stuck in my head. Maybe the atmosphere just matched my personal taste.
Can't wait to see their next years production. Someday...
They getting closer.

Great. I also liked the music, especially the cool hip hoped part. Nice effects too
Awesome.
The color component separation makes my eyes hurt!
Inconsistent my a**.. It doesn't tell a story or anything but imo demos shouldn't be about stories, demos should be about showing off! And almost all of the scenes have to do with cities & buildings. If the scenes would be any more similar, then this would be boring.. But now it's goood. Also the way the music changes with the b&w city........
To me this one has a large re-watch factor, I want to see the first smokebox again, I want to see the ill black & white city again and I definitely want to watch again the robots and wonder what on earth future technology you guys used to allow metal to flow through metal that easilly :D

When I first watched it there was a big lump in my throat, as the first two minutes are extremely impressive. The modelling is AAA, the camera paths top notch, all great. Even the RGB split.
After the first two minutes the ride comes to a halt. There is a very interesting liquids effect that is disconnected and then the demo ends. What a shame..
Maybe next time spend 2-3 months working on a single demo ? It will become a legend.

The rare modern demo which have exactly an effect (in additional to 3D flyby). Thumb up for it.
Smash, you definitely shouldn't change your style. It's not about that at all. What comes to recycling stuff, everyone does that anyways (what someone commented about graffiti / growing effects). In fact, the visual side of the demo was varying from good stuff (tm) to mind-blowing.
But you may take it to account if various people say it felt disconnected and incoherent in places, there's a reason for that kind of comments. Actually it never even crossed my mind it was ment to be a "tv-like channel switching" direction. Funny thing that Hoplite just commented about the same thing (although with opposite opinion), as he was definitely the master in this kind of direction with various Orange demos in the past. Perhaps you should get him in for the next release. :)
To me it was the direction that dropped this demo from a winning position to 3rd place. Maybe that's just a matter of taste, but:
I'll keep my fingers crossed then... Perhaps that one will be something we all have been waiting for. Keep reachin' up!

This is the business! The music is ace, the effects, direction and general style is great. The art looks well defined and fits the brief perfectly.. word.
I think all the hating nerds should just stfu and do something artistic or even get out more rather than moaning about something you really dont understand.

a fine piece of art. i like the basic idea behind it (seems like some people don't get it, althought the title makes it quite clear). the city scene and the smoke box are fantastic and the music sounds also very fresh. the only weak point is the last screen - it looks a bit odd and unfitting, but hey....
i cannot understand how people can thumb this down. we should be glad that gropus like fairlight still create such great demos and don't loose their interest in the demoscene.
and like monroe said - one shot of this is still way sexier than most of the rest.

great code, great gfx, great music. a bit slow in some parts, even in 1024x768 and without aa (x1800) but in all, great stuff (as expected of a team like that) :)
Loads of great stuff here, but very messy. Thumb of course.
I must be mad, but this demo shows perspective with anaglyph glasses.
best demo ever
First of all, technically this demo rulez
Here we have a mixture of connected scenes with a mixture of unconnected ones, and this is what makes people think that the entire demo is a nonsense (imho).
If the goal is to make people think that they are changing TV channels, I think that the demo must contribute to that feeling, maybe with a TV screen overlay, or more evident TV distortions between the scenes
I can't still get the connection between the first part of the demo and the rest
The music is not my taste, the beginning seems more polished, but as the demo advances it seems more and more simpler, which probably contributes to remove intensity to the prod.
But in any way can I thumb down the results of so much effort :)

First Fairlight demo that doesn't run on my system (probably doesn't like my ati card?). Watching a video is not really the same as the real thing but here goes anyway... As with nearly all of Fairlight's releases, it's great stuff.
However, there is one thing that i didn't like about this demo: the rgb filter. It just doesn't work for me, no matter how i look at it. I would loved to have seen the demo without it.
In any case, i'm absolutely convinced that if this team would work on a demo for 2 or 3 months, they would come up with a real killer, no doubt about that.
However, i have the impression that the more modern, grafitti sort of style (can i call it a bit hip hop ish?) doesn't go down too well with quite a few people? Live action from Up-rough on Amiga received quite a few reactions (more than more mainstream demos) saying: hmm... nicely done but not my style. Just a thought...

what i meant to say: i have the impression that this style of demomaking seems to provoke more outspoken opinions than other "more mainstream styles": you either dig it totally or don't like it all. phew
mazor & melwyn :D
Ahhh the style! You know, there are swotty and cool kids at the school playground. FLT, CNCD and Orange are the cool kids, definitely!
For some certain reasons I very much dig the train scene of course ;)
All over design was enjoyable even because of the RGB distortion and the fisheye.
Tune went a little off beat for my taste. Could've been more tight to allow sharper effect sync.
And finally the smoke/jelly box definitely hit my button! Gettin' Up!

This demo really grows on me after watching it for several times now. Can't get the music out of my head. As opposed to some people here I really like the RGB distortion (try wearing anaglyph glasses while watching this - eeerie!) - in my opinion the colours in the robot part could even be more krass and distorted. What about adding some kind of small channel switching/hacking effect between the individual scenes to reinforce the main theme (if some kind of "final version" is planned, that is)?
how often is that graffiti effect to be recycled?
I thought this ruled big time. No 'unfinished scenes' or filler for a change! Ok, so it could still have been a lot more finished than it is, but it's close enough. It's what track one promised to be but failed to deliver.
It's consistent enough for me too, not on the same level as the asd demo of course, but it obviously wasn't meant to be. And throwing a wicked effect or two into the middle of a demo is pretty much a tradition in the scene. It makes the demo less boring, unless you've actually got the shit load of content needed to fill 5 minutes or so with a single theme.
The content - the trains were great, the city too. And the smoke, obviously. The 'game' bit had an obvious lack of collision detection but otherwise ruled too. I loved that music too.
During the compo I seriously though this would win hands down, at least until the ASD demo started (then I changed my mind pretty fast!) I can't understand why it came 3rd.

I would also call the fisheye "a real effect", kind of cool how it's implemented.. Maybe it's the standard way for the regular 3d heads but I was impressed! The smoke around the train kind of gives it away :)
i like the smoke simulation
it is excellent
*but* i'm starting to hate those lines/splines traversing around every scene in every modern "design" demo
those things are the new blobs

Watching this on the stream, I didn't really like it, it felt too much already-seen-before and bland.
But now that I saw it on my machine (and it runs really fine in 1280x1024/4xaa), I can see all the nice details that went into it and left me wanting more after the end. (it really kinda felt short)
I'm not a fan of the music and the RGB-shifting was quite annoying for the eye (it works as a distortion effect, but not if you do it constantly), but I cannot help thumbing it up.

MASSIVE!
to the people criticizing the lack of coherence : hello world, this is a MEGADEMO :P

Cool effects, but I didn't really like it, and it kinda reminds the Track One demo you made.
fairlight+cndc+orange ,youve got my namevote
uh yeah.
it just seems some people are not familiar with the effect ;)
Great demo, stylish and distinctive (except Nvidia tutorial parts) as expected from fairlight, but why 57MB?
why not? :)
for graphics ? TGA and DDS files with shitty uv mapping ? Get a better graphician ! :D
style.
quite ok.
I like it, very enjoyable. My only remark is it doesn't work on my radeon 9800 (missing textures), but I perfectly understand I'm quite outdated.
For the incoherence complain, dunno, I don't see it less or more coherent than many other demos. And the rgb shift effect is ok too, what's wrong with it, I think it fits. Seems to me some people are biasing their rating, like evaluating the demo and then normalizing it to the expectation they had on flt, and that's not the way. This is a great demo, very flt style, and that's a good thing!

sux!
The effects and technical level are outstanding. The design, well, i'm kind of bored with this numedia line/noise/tag-style but it still works well, it has its moments when it really works.
Generally, the problem with these kind of demos is that they are the part of demoscene that steers more and more away from the demoscene concept and towards general video art. i'm not saying all demos should stick to the idea of just showing off effects one by one and reusing the same ideas over and over again (it would kill the scene), evolution is inevitable, but i would bow superbly to a demo looking even slightly like this and having been optimized for a computer one would never believe it could run on. imo the best results are made when one is pushed to his limits with shitty slow and restricted tools and even THEN forced to come up with an elegant design. i just can't see this demo as such. still, tu for the overall impression.

I love this demo, even if the worst point is the loading time. The overall is really cool and stylish.
I enjoy to see some great code mixed with good design, long time no see something like that.
I can't wait for your next prods.
see ya

sorry, in any aspects this sucked...
GREAT
Loved the smoke- and blood-boxes. Hated the soundtrack. Piggy.
Try this with 3D glasses on, you really have to!!
the first part of the demo was on a different groove than what we are used to. I dig it.
i guess it all comes down to flt being able to work more or plan their work in a better way. It's a shame really...

incoherent, but what the heck. those scenes rule!
still, i don't know, where the 57mb are going...
still, i don't know, where the 57mb are going...
Some random scenes hacked together. Most look nice and the smokebox is quite nice, but again with the farilght "design" that is already seen several times. Looks like this was made in a lot of hurry. Maybe you guys should actually spend some time with your productions for a change, eh? Music is so-so, almost like several different tracks mixed badly together. And I really don't see why the hell this stuff is so damn slow on a Core2duo E6600 & Radeon 1900 with a couple of gigs of memory.
I'm probably the most shocked over this but after watching at home, I like this way better than Lifeforce.
Probably the music. I don't know. There's nothing new, but... the music seems to carry it through.

Yet another demo that needs dual core and gtx.
Typical smash coding.
Typical smash coding.
Heavy requirements, some nice gfx and effects, music was pretty boring. Oink oink.
allez
I think this ghetto grafitti design and overused ideas in FL demos are already a bit boring. Piggie
fisheye
Not my taste, but well done.
It's alright. I like the transparent boxes with liquids.
Oh and the loader graphic needs a graph or percentage since it took like two minutes to load!
Very nice, smoke ruled big time.
However, even half of 58 megs would be way too much for this.
However, even half of 58 megs would be way too much for this.
rocks hard !
this sucks! no oldschool references, no cheap entertainment or crowdpleasing, it doesnt keep my goldfish-like attentionspan occupied, there's no nice code in it like fractals nicked from paul bourke (great looking, modern 3d engines, 3dscene handling and rendering techniques dont count as good code!), it's too big (graphics in demos should just be cubes or generated shit! then it could be 64k!), doesnt run on my c64.. it's clearly shit!
Too big, too slow, to long loading. Too boring. Sorry. This suxx massive.
some nice things indeed, but something's missing or something. some.
I don't liked this demo size.
and too slow.
but, great some stuff and good tune.
and thumb goes for many works.

Awesome!
stylishhhh.
this is simply the fucking nicest city-scape i ever saw in a demo. (plus helicopters)
and some sweet robot-animations too.
and some sweet robot-animations too.
The only 'problem' I had was the speed in which the robots moved. They were far too fast in my opinion.
råxx!!
already existing a More detailed version
but hey! FLT had the guts to optimize it for cheap cards! that's part of the demoscene challenge! C00L!

what dodge said.
no idea about the technical issues, but i really love the township scenery
some small nice bits but overall it doesn't get anywhere. neither has a climax nor a proper ending. it may be your style, but it's a style that makes you yawn. if there was a concept in mind, it was lost after the first minute.
well, the smoke box effect was presented in a way so similar to nvidia's., i'll refrain myself from commenting on it.
what is left in your hands when you forget everything else that doesn't excite you because they were done before, seen a million times is the city landscape which pretty much dominated the whole demo. and i wouldn't buy if for 60mb it a trade was possible.

Robots!
i love the city, the fluid sim is cool but has nothing to do with the other parts
In contrast too many others I found it quite consistent. Loves the fish-eye.
Ofcourse too unpolished - robots walking through each other. Still rulez. And done in that hurry, wow. Impressed.
(Still think it is too big, but agrees that it is a problem with the compo rulez, not the demo.)

nice, but few bugs are present. unfortunately.
when the camera changes its position in the city, one wrong frame is drawn sometimes.
liquid and smoke sim is extremely slow somehow (the sound ends, the sim continues...). this is especially funny on quad-core CPU.
and the sim does not fit into overall concept of the demo, i think.

Unbelievably cool effects, scenes and whatnot. Too bad it gets boring due to a total lack of flow/direction! Still, it rules. Pure class. Respect!
Robots!
This demo is massive and deserved a higher ranking at ASM. This so hi quality standard, all downthumbers definetly have to get a clue: Which demo did feature ace character animation lately, huh?
The modeling effort is huge.
I think the RGB filtering sucks, tho.
Go, smash, go!

256 - sux, it's demo - rulez! =)))))))))
it's a beauty... nuff said.
hmm .. again growing lines :/ but the citypart still rocks...
enough for a thump up!

oh lord! best in years.
brillant!
The criticism by ryg and others applies. Yet, it has tons of good work done in it.
Now is a perfect chance not to wait for a new demo, but MAKE A REDIRECTED FINAL, with all those parts you have, with all those ideas you, Smash, just spoke of, you can still realize them! Remember, some of those guys criticising you have actually redirected their demos in retrospect. And fixing stuff actually makes the prod live and be remembered long, otherwise it might get forgotten soon.
so, FINALIZE PLZ! thanks in advance. ;)

what monroe said. I actually really like the soundtrack...
yeah the soundtrack is actually pretty awesome and im still loving the design. Im surprised nobody has coup de coeur'd this yet.
Excellent stuff here, I not 100% game for the soundtrack, though. But all in all, brilliant stuff. Good to see the orange crew, partially assembled again.
Love it - including the sound track - infact I thought that was one of the highlights. The smokebox is beautiful and coded well beyond anything I could even come close to. Wish I could have seen it at Asm! Maybe in '08 :-D
rockz
I have to admit I actually cheered and pointed to the screen when the smokebox appeared. Might have been the beer, but I think not. The code is advanced and the artwork is top stuff.
Brilliant indeed. Loved the robots and the black veins running everywhere. =)
Simply awesome.
Shame for flt!
as some people already said - the design of separate scenes is jus great, but overall watching experience is ruined by inconsistency for me. those soldiers almost made me cry :(
Now that I finally got a machine that can run this, I can say that it's ok. Some really nice scenes in it, but maybe it's the music and slow pace which ruins it for me.
Lots of fantastic scenes here, including the smoke/liquid box, the graffiti/train, and the city scene. I have a hard time believing this was mostly done in 3 days. If so, major kudos :-)
awesome
not so fast as i was exepting ,but really cool :)
great visuals ...
i guess my machine is too slow for this, but it totally locked up. i spent less time watching the demo than trying to exit: trc failure.
is it possible to get a link for the music itself please?
Very, very good one, but I don't like the overall feeling. It just doesn't make it for me, perhaps because of the music.
Strange, I was so sure i thumbed this up. Incredible work guys, absolutely incredible! The visuals and design are jawdropping.
Great music and gfx.
And a thumb up!
Stalls, is incoherent, 60MB is just pushing it. Loads of wrong stuff here. But One week? You are kidding right? One week?
Damn the lighting on the train was great. I liked the soldier design very much. The city was so expansive and complex (the second city view from above with helicopters blew me away). The fluid was a cool effect, if a little rushed into place.
Frankly its better than 90% of anything in the scene.

no . seriously thats what i'm getting up for !
Stylish, city scape, "teh effect"... some parts of the music were okay, I somehow find it weird how they mix all together :/
Code and Grafix are great but i do not like the music.
Sometimes it's good to have a second, fresh look at something a few months afterwards - so here goes my thumb to the visuals. They've really deserved it.
Still: To whoever considers that sound track any good: You should really consider your "Get out more" yourself. It can only help.

My my what a divided discussion this demo brought to the table. Excellent. Damn u sulphur for releasing 'nykivä' tune before mine :D destop rules as always.
Great music, great style, great effects, what more is there to ask for?
time went by and new hardware came, but still the last effect isn´t fluid at all..10fps.!
guess one needs SLI and such if even a NVIDIA-Demobox doesnt compute it.!!
but having seen it on the biggy @BP08 moves me in a position where i can rate it finally.!
i love the trains in the beginning but think theres that mismatch-error all-over...one feels that its a mixup of different stuff.! everything is very polished and the musiC is better than KB wants to tell us (when heard via Headphones and shot through a mixer ;) ) and fitting it.!!
lotZ of teXt -> Thumb UP ofcoZ.!

bomb shit
bomb indeed, though i don't like the guys running around..
Perfect :)
This is one totally mental prod. The music is synched perfectly to the visuals and makes something great even better. :D
the first half of this demo is just perfect. perfect!
I do agree with mad though. the guys running kinda ruins the 2. half of this demo.

At the beginning it sucked so hard that I almost pressed esc - but then it got constantly better
Beginning was good, the rest didn't feel quite as well polished.
<3 the cpu-killing smoke effect. ;P

nice fisheye, but I don't get all the thumb-ups and awards.
Forgot to thumb. Those fog effects suck arse!
this is awesome.
love
forgot to thumb this up long time ago
very nice ^_^
these guys are like gods when i was younger, and they still are. i just can't ever pull shit of your quality :P
love every piece of it. Brilliant!
love !!
became a little boring towards the end but still definetly worth a thumb up.
@cocoon dont need a nvidia sli room decently on my 7900 GTO

yes yes yes, forgotten thumb again! great demo!
just watched this again. still VERY impressive. i love the look of everything in this. this stuff looks fucking REAL.
"brilliant!"
"brilliant!"
pure awesomeness
great
very, very good. excellent soundtrack. i like the fisheye-effect and the distortions and everything. i only don't like that "brilliant" -sample. otherwise, it's exactly what you expect from cncd, orange and fairlight.. a friggin great demo!
I liked the fisheye.
Unique & stylish.

what Hicks said.
overall highly impressive demo, the train part gets an extra style point. actually it's 10 style points. maybe even more.

The subway of Perfection.
Correcting my former bullshit opinion.
Just watched it again. Seems be to be like a wine that's getting even better with the years.
A link in the style of the productions from those folks.
excellent
.
überstylisch!
Genial ... ich liebe es ;)
fisheye + time hax + fluid box
Love everything about this demo -- even how it falls apart at the end.
finally i'm able to watch this beauty in full-hd glory :)
A lot of stuff going on here. Loved the "city music"
Music! Train! City! Helicopters! Droids! Fisheye! Colours! Cool resolution always, even when camera near!
Thumb up!

Cool scenes, cool soundtrack!
Made a Highres Youtube video for it:

Great demonstration. Excellent work!
I love it... Amazing scenes and effects accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack... Hats off to the guy who wrote the tunes!
fantastic
stay on top
Interesting effects, but a bit too much fisheye for my personal taste.
Great concept. Really liked it
THIS THING IS THIRD ON PARTY in 2007? It sounds like very good year but truth is that THIS THING WON.
A brilliant demo!
Excellent design and graphics work here plus a very cool soundtrack.
Excellent design and graphics work here plus a very cool soundtrack.
i watch this and think "old flt demo is old" but the truth it it was miles ahead of its game when it was released.
great scenes and effects, but the direction is a bit messy, i didn't understood a shit *derp*
Trains with 3D graffiti, fuck yeah - screen distortions, fuck yeah, fisheye lens with tune, fuck yeah.
The moment it shows the robot soldiers, I really want to chant "BRILLIANT" - but then comes the smoke box and I'm at lost for words.
Damn, this is in my top ten of best demos ever <3

nice
Weird but damn cool!
I love this one. The exploding goo-stuff inside the box is awesome.
it starts so great but when it "goes" to town it gets meh till the end. too bad. piggie.
Yeah, this one fell apart really quickly. I remember struggling to sit through it the first time, then struggling again on a repeated watching to see if I missed something. It felt like everyone's efforts, extremely solid in their own rights, just went completely orthogonal to each other.
Fairlight
first half very strong
not sure about second half but first one is definitely worth to watch! awesome :)
well u keep on making this same shit. 2018 u hit the mark. i never liked your demos. Here, well u know who's gona win and be remembered :)
has actually aged really well. still looks pretty fresh
Brilliant! and what v3nom said ;-)
AAAAAH god damn it I love it
…except for the "robots" part?
…except for the "robots" part?
cool stuff
actually the smoke/fluids part didn't age _that_ well, but the rest is still a mesterpiece
the graphics are really nice, and half of the scenes look quite cool, but the city and robots were kinda meeeh.
graphic design was just lit af.
as for music, i liked the starting track and the one with the ride.
