This was a great demo, groovy and stylish and all. No thumbs up though yet, because it doesn't really work well on my Radeon 7500 (the overlays aren't transparent for some reason and thus hide whatever's behind them).

Bugged like hell on gf4mx (almost all scenes are obscured/hidden by ugly squares apart from the one on that screenshot and the texts made of sprites), does it requires fragment shaders ?
liked the style, and the hand at the end looked amazing. The shoe was alright... just had some lighting issues. Also, scratching synced objects rule. Keep going with the cool style prods!

Great demo, only that still picture near of demo's end wasnt fit there.
i have several parts that don't render nothing but black screens...
for the ones who got problems with the alpha textures in the demo try download another gfx card driver, this demo should not require any pixel or vertex shaders. and now i've checked most parts with the reference rasterizer and it works there, so probably a driver bug (as usual)...

Might I inquire why the choice of higher resolutions means jack shit, since it only appears to *really* affect the loading screen and the last 3d scene (which isn't that special anyway)?
They prolly render to a texture that is lowres.

well, this is made in a demosystem which has a setup dialog that i rarely change, if we use a render to texture effect in the demo i really don't go and change the setup dialog to lock it to a certain resolution.
Pantaloon: But you could find a rtt resolution that fits the screenres a bit more better :)

i also agree with gargaj. somehow this prod is not consitent in style. when i saw the first scene i thought *WOOOOOW* this is going to be a fucking great demo show. but the second scene was rather boring and imho didnt fit the first scene. tho the scenes itself still are cool. nice work. nice design. the the demo as a whole is a bit strange.

more hip hop prods please ;) this one is kinda kewl, shoes and the last hand are very well modeled! some good things in the rendering engine. music is cool too. it miss some coherency in colors and in rythm of the visuals, and it's too short ;)

This demo just took me back to circa 98-00, when demos really had a lot of character and dripped with style. Again, I'm not in the know when it comes to current going's on, but when I saw the modern update to Angel Dawn's amazing, classic Fairlight logo, I nearly cheered. :) I love that this demo honors the old-school, and is selective about what it's honoring.
I also like the whole hip-hop feel... I watched Style Wars, Wild Style, and Scratch recently, so this felt like perfect timing!
Anyway, great work... the blending of 2D, 3D, and a dope soundtrack all came together nicely. The FMV parts had some weird bugs, but this is definitely one of my personal favorites.

Gotta thumb this up. It's been a long time since I've seen a demo with some proper logo art in it. Nice pixels. The sneaker on the turntable was a masterpiece.
The music wasn't bad, and the demo had an admirable attitude. Little touches like "INSERT COIN(S)" at the end is the kind of cool junk I want to see.
Also, it was very well syncronized with the music. Interesting that Little Bitchard also did the music for We Cell by Kewlers.

For some reason, I couldn't get it running. The graphics was all fucked up, the music sounded like it came from underwater (I did make out a beat in the background, but that was all) and the FPS was about 1. Not to mention that it spent ~2 minutes starting up.
I wonder if it's a driver issue, or something else. Except for the ASD demo, I can run everything else from ASM, so my computer shouldn't be that crappy...

Funny, I rebooted and tried again.. now the graphics worked but the sound was still very much broken. When was the last time a player used in a demo didn't work? ;)

Preacher, we use BASS music system for music, so if there is a problem with the sound try look at their site to see if someone else has the same problem. It could also be a trouble with buffer sizes but i really doubt it.

The best asm04 had to offer. Very cool but not perfect - some parts are a bit boring and with a demo this sweet I find myself wishing it wasn't so short. The music stands on it own too IMO. Wish all Fairlight demos were more like this.

it is sad that pouet is useless when people want to watch a bit older pc demos on real hardware, just not possible to get the info on WHAT HARDWARE IS ACTUALLY NEEDED for fucks sake.
nosfe: For what it's worth, it works fine on my 2 years old power netbook (Asus 1201N) with nv GPU (except audio, which sounds like a 20kbps mp3 for some reason).
nosfe built in 2004 so it must run with hardware specifications of 2005 and onwards better (runs quite well in a 2008 machine with nvidia geforce 9600gt 512mb)...
as for the sound had same problems with tamaes until i played around with the settings don't remember though what i did to make it sound clear, think directed the sound to the card driver and not to the system default selection ( but in the end it worked ).

just ran it on a 2004 machine and realized that exact thing! couldn't agree more... also this replied to my question the first time i saw it, why it had some not so full scenes (the dancing characters in particular)...
nosfe: i haven't seen this run incorrect. just tried it (nvidia demobox), runs perfectly fine, always did.
Works almost correctly on a piece of shit GMA 3100 "gpu" (and at a >20fps too!), only missing the 2d character animations. A very fine demo, style as fuck. I only always thought the music was very unfitting to the visuals.
Having overlay problems with ATI, but got a decent kkapture using Intel chipset. Put it on YT here.

This demo just oozes cool. I had it on my CDC list for years. Its message is too direct, maybe borderline condescending, and its visuals are most definitely done to please the crowd. However, it is flashy enough to get away with it, and the driving track just keeps it relevant even now, almost 20 years down the line.
Clearly not the best Fairlight demo, but still a demo most of us would be proud to have made, would you not?
