CDC stuff right here ♥ + :´(
simply amazing!!
*spoilers*
Reminds me a bit of Nuclei, which is good. The scene with all the robots who all decline to help the protagonist in his quest to find the meaning of what this heart-shaped object is, and what it could bring forth was awesome. Really nice camerawork there with the tilted angles. The endscene with the female robot was really emotional, good job!

gorgeous <3
Magic
Stands out due to the distinctive modelling, and the amount of it. Some general issues: what's up with the "motion blur"? Looks kind of cheap. Secondly most of the content looks "underexposed" by even as much as two stops at times. Looks a lot like a pyrotech demo (especially the latest one), but comes together a whole lot better in this case. Synth was great, lovely oscillators and instruments, music was... not great but very good still, my problem being that it built up towards some sort of climax the whole time which in the end never arrived. Great job in any case, good to see this genre of intros still being held up.
A proper story and atmosphere, in 64K :-)
Wont complain about anything technical here, this one caught me from the first second I watched this. Awesome in every aspect + storytelling in 64k <3 <3 <3
Lovedit - I was rooting for the little guy as the demo went on, great visuals, I think its been mentioned here, there were some issues with blurring in parts (did not look right) - but the shear amount of content you have here and the quality of it in 64K is mighty impressive! One I will watch again!
This is one of the first storydriven demos I really enjoyed. Great work.
Great looking, dunno about motion blur and story. Kinda never went to anywhere. Still thumb up!
Short film in 64K. A robot with a heart.
Music was drab and camera work boring, and no I'm not over the top about the story either but a technical thumb for fitting the story in 64k :) And for some reason it had that flavor of quirky French demos that I always like!
A story 64K - long, moving and beautiful executed... You guys rock :)
Too much motion blur. It destroys all the details in the graphics. Could it be the blur is dependend on the FPS, so on slow machines the blur does affect a longer time period?
Solid!!

This actually mattered a lot. Great work here!
Massive graphical, but I got bored at some point.
ok
I like this! The morale of the story is clearly that robots want oil or batteries or something like that.
u had me at robots
This is awesome.
robots robots robots, what else could there be, factories and neon lights perhaps
but thumb up, it's not a bad intro
but thumb up, it's not a bad intro
Weak thumb for the amount of graphics, scenes and storytelling.
I totally dislike the rendering (blurred everywhere, kind of noise textures that look glitch), and it ran super slow on my machine (i7@4.5 + GTX 970), had to drop the resolution to 1280x720 for it to stop stuttering.
My suggestion: Make a version 1.1 with shorter/smoother transitions and without all that blur/post processing :)

Great story, constantly had to remind me that this is only 64k!
Some scenes seemed a bit too long/slow for me.
Some scenes seemed a bit too long/slow for me.
The motion blur destroyed it, nice robots though.
awesome intro
!
I like content in intros!
Thanks for contributing to making this compo night as awesome as it was. I was blown away by this intro. Top-notch content!
It was too dark on the bigscreen, and yeah too much blur, but if this gets fixed it will be awesome - I love it!
I'd have some minor complaints about direction and pace, like the scene where the robot runs away from the "tendrils" is too long/too static. But that doesn't detract from the fact that this demo looks gorgeous and emotionally sucked me in. Best of compo for me!

This was just amazing. Just in the first scene I thought that it had a very polished look and style. But then scene after scene follows seemingly without an end. Each and every one with amazing textures, lighting and geometry. And It even does have a gorgeous and very well told story. This really raises the bar for 64k. Wow! Great Job!
awesome technically, render and models are great. but the horrible story destroys it all.
Yeah, it's cheesy. But you got me. Watching this on the bigscreen I was emotionally overwhelmed. A fantastic release for which I would like to thank you from the deep of my heart. I love it.
The amount of content you managed to pack in there is stunning. Some beautiful scenes, too :)
Huge thumbs up for the tech and the content, otherwise it'd won my own personal "kitsch of the week" award if it wasn't for the fabrausch intro.
the amount and quality of content is outstanding. It's hard to believe it even knowing what you did before (eg with gaia machina).
I like the music very much, even if it feels a bit like the amount of instruments were squeezed to a minimum not to take to much space? (would have enjoyed some "broader" stuff during the "twist")
The story is a bit cheesy but totally worked for me.
Overall, it's my favorite prod of this awesome compo, and I'm looking forward the final. Congratz.

Stabilt!
I just loved it. . and when I saw the Robot first time. I was thinking "Please move" and it did and was the story. . LOVE IT!
Good work!
Good work!
just wow.
O_o--b
The content generation hit some uncanny valleys, but this genuinely touched me. I really felt the pain of the litte robot dude :(
For me the best 64k intro in the compo just awesome and beautiful. Quite inspiring actually as well.
Great work
More light in next time, please

Nice execution, but I don't like story telling in demos - the worst movie makes for better stories IMHO.

Beautiful. Thank you for making this.
woha nice!
technically nice but overblurred and kitschy like barbie
so so thumb
so so thumb
not my cup of tea, weak thumb up it is...
In retrospect despite its mild flaws I can't believe this didn't win.
Not really my thing and not without flaws, but a definite thumb up as I don't recall seeing anyone pull off this kind of a story-based-thing so well in 64k.
Too dark and these story driven demos would benefit from a better soundtrack.
a lot of modelling work! music didn't fit so well in some scenes.
it comes through as a noble attempt to create a compressed story with high-end graphics. I salute this idea, as it migth possible reach a wider audience than regular intros. That said, i would highly encourage you to reseach storytelling and direction as these points completely destroyed this intro. Simply said, it got weird and tacky imho. I do however see a good amount of work and potential here, please continue to reach for it.
Cool geometry, but something wrong with that "motion blur"
BEST production from the whole Revision party
You're clearly getting better and better at story telling.
really cute and nice demo.
Astonishingly well done.
while i'm not really a fan of storydemos i do appreaciate the massive amount of work spent on the modelling/texturing/animation.
music was ok but it sounded to me like you had to make a tradeoff there for the gfx.
but still a very solid intro.

but still a very solid intro.
The sheer amount of work in producing content for this intro is massive and the renderer is up there but the direction is a bit lacking for me. It just feels a bit rushed, but hey.. it was developed right up to the deadline with lack of sleep so I am not surprised ;) <3 <3 <3 One heart for each of you...
Didn't like the music much, but everything else was top notch and as expected from Approximate :) Thank you guys!
Wunderbar! The music and visuals go hand in hand. Showed this to my kids. They love it!
way too cheesy for me, but for the effort:
you almost made me cry, i was so afraid the robot would break his heart (
I loved this in every way, but I feel a bit sorry about how much it tried to grab and how much slipped away because of it. There's definite greatness here but prolly would've needed a month more work (to what is already an absurd amount of work invested by the looks) to be amazing.
Massive respect and love for you guys. I'm much too scared of the "short movie as a demo" thing to even try something like this. The amount and quality of procedural content you made is just too insane anyway. The character animation (which is a difficult thing to do even with infinite filesize and a legion of artists) broke immersion for me a few times, which is why I'm really really looking forward to the final version :D
Absolutely amazing job! and don't let polishing the final distract you from working on the next installment please :)

I loved this. It's just so..aww.. And only 64k!
A little too dark, but nice.
there are many things that are not perfect here - it aimed for the stars and "only" reached the upper atmosphere - but the amount and quality of work involved is just ridiculous. someone could spend a year doing this as a movie, let alone a 64k. i thought the concept/story was touching and it worked.
in a very tough compo this is my personal winner.

I see the effort here, but no. It really doesn't payoff :/
For me this came across as high in concept (and work), but lacking in execution and direction. The look of the rendering was also not to my taste, but clearly this is a solid piece of work.

Showed this to my kids. They love it!
Haha, same here, my two daughters loved it as well. :-D Actually their favorite demo so far is the "one with the strawberries" (Gaia Machina), so Approximate hereby gets my official "Recommended for Kids" certificate!
And if there ever will be a final version, they also get a CDC.
Your style is quite recognizable. Making a demo with this kind of story deserves respect, since it requires a ton of work and it's so easy to make it wrong.
You took a very interesting approach. The story has some action and suspense in it, but the direction tries to remove it all: very slow pace, long shots, slow-cutting, lots of fade in/fade out, uneventful soundtrack. Everything tells us the robot is alone and is doomed to fail. And this is very touching.
Without a doubt, this is my personal winner. I'm fine with having only a demo every 3 years if it has this quality!

sweet
<3
How could this end 3rd ?!!
What garg & cupe said. The work involved is amazing and it takes a lot of balls to make this kind of 64k because it's very hard to make everything right.
Above the top.
Touching.
This story makes me a sad panda ):
I think it's the really first time i see a "scenrized" 64K <----- big up !!!
My favorite in the compo. Excellent graphics and music, nice story too. Love it!
64k movie. Top
Absolutely stunning, lovely and very touching.
loved it!
my favourite in the compo. lots of stuff in there and it reminds me of rustboy :)
but remove the excessive motion blur in the final ;)

he's a sad sad robot *sing*
forgot my thumb...and music deserves another thumb, perfectly fitting to story
very nice! even if a bit slow for my tastes. also, the amount of content and detail is amazing. could be less dark :)
big thumb up for this amazing short movie. really awesome to see someone not only showing great visuals but also pushing story driven intros. for the final, even if you remove the extreme TAA try to keep the dreamy look, for me it is really important for the general impression.
great thank you for your productions and see you next year at the party :)
great thank you for your productions and see you next year at the party :)
Would Smash finally make a new 64kb intro again now? ;)
Decent.
Extremely good looking and impressive amount of details. You can really see that you guys must have put an incredible amount of work into this. I also liked the music and in my opinion it fitted the visuals and the story nicely. The story was very well executed, but it felt a bit corny to me. Overall amazing work and I'm really looking forward to the final and also your next production!
magic : ...no.
What quisten and gopher and gargaj said.
As others mentioned here plenty of things were less than perfect but it was definitely very charming. Oddly enough the motion blur gave the intro a nostalgic feel for me, like I was watching a cross between "Machines of Madness" and "Fulcrum", I guess :)
Anyway, for sheer ambition and scale this ranks among one of the best intros released ever.

so cool!!
Final version, please!
Well done!
this was a sad, but nice entry, but I like it :)
Sorry, but no. The story is too predictable and cliched to connect with me at all.
Lovely.
It was the best 64KB on Revision 2015 in my oppinion.
The amount of work that has gone into this is incredible. I agree the story is cliche but then again so are most holywood movies. The fact this story is told so well in realtime animation in 64k is what blows my mind.
How did I not comment this yet? o.O My personal compowinner, nay, partywinner, despite an overall massive compo. The amount of content in here is just ridiculous and the story is admittedly cheesy, but touching and really well told.
The camera work and pacing fits the dark mood; I loved how the three rooms with the different robots light up one after the other, like in an old automatic puppet theater.
I can barely wait for the final, and I'm looking forward to seeing you guys and your next prod again at Revision ;)

Pressed esc. I could not stand that ugly blur in the first scene :(
Beautiful and touching.
Nice
awesome graphics, proper music - too bad it is so cheap cliche that it spoils the experience almost entirely
I find it really beautiful
So much more than a 64k intro needs to be. The robo-feels! A shame that final version never happened.
oh, the little cute robot and his love story. i think i've seen this before, but it doesn't prevent me from crying now.
<3

Forgotten thumb.
Forgotten thumb
This is just so beautiful and soulful, and a work of art that I want to watch all the time.
Nice, impressive and cinematic!
