very nice nah-kolor demo =)

this rocked! The whole demo, design, graphics and music melted nice together, no new ideas but a very good result! Nice ending to this year...

Lengthy and well designed 3d-show. It just fails to excite or entertain me.

didn't run with athlon xp1800 + win2k + gf2mx + 28.32 detonators. requires more than gf2mx (the readme was somewhat vague on the requirements) ?
added on the 2002-12-29 13:44:48 by melw melw
nope, it works on gf2. but you need 40.72 drivers...
added on the 2002-12-29 13:49:17 by tomaes tomaes
The music is really crackly and noisy in the demo (WinXP, XP1800+, SBLive! 5.1, GF2GTS, det 40.72)... The ogg itself plays fine, perhaps the included fmod.dll is bugged?

But this is true MadWizards style... And nice smooth hires this time... Very good :)

Ouch!

blackspawn: read the readme file :-D
Rasmus, I read it, but I didn't think it'd hurt THAT much to try starting the demo anyway. ;)
sweet.

Some info: The bug seems to be in FMOD 3.5. When playing the .ogg with the standalone player, I get the same noise. In the new 3.61 player, it works fine. I can't replace the DLL because then the demo won't start. Please fix the demo to work with the new FMOD.

FLAPJACK/MADWIZARDS on keys. we are working on the patches right now. also for the Radeons.
Nice design, cool music, but i think most of the scenes have the same colorscheme and it`s abit plain.

this is a great production!
amazing gfx by spark!
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 15:46:04 by jazz jazz
sparque rox :)) the scenes are simple but are cool, the rest is more like haujobb style :)

but why does an opengl demo require drivers with dx9 support? (40.72)
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 15:59:36 by Payda^pcn Payda^pcn
payda: probably because there were also some driver-bugs that got fixed... and 40.72 don't seem to support dx9, they're just compatible with it.

An amazing PC debut for Mawi! Hope to see many more demos like this in the future.
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 16:37:05 by Wade Wade
Ah, been waiting for Madwizards' first PC release after all their great Amiga PPC demos over the past year. A very good debut. I finally upgraded my Detonator drivers, just to watch it! Some 3D parts kinda remind me of FR/Neonray/Throb stuff (and Nah-Kolor stuff too, of course), but overall it's definitely in the MaWi style. Thanks for providing some post-Xmas quality that The Party could not provide.

unfortunatly this demo refuses to run on my system. pity, i really like madwizards amiga stuff.
added on the 2002-12-29 18:21:00 by a_lee_n a_lee_n
NOTE FROM MADWIZARDS: if for some reasons the demo doesn't work on your system, please report your hardware config / drivers set to flapjack@madwizards.org, we will work on that! but, to clear it up once again. once you have gforce + 40.72 detonators it HAS to work!!! it might also run on some Rivas, but we take no responsibility. Take care!
some parts reminded me a lot of cncd - in a good way.
demo of the year? maybe but unfortunately it does not run on my machine...

now this is a good demo...FOR ME TO LOOP ON.

pretty incoherent, but the individual parts themselves are *fresh*.
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 19:34:41 by sagacity sagacity
the first few minutes are rather confused, but after then the demo manages to find its own style.

a bit incoherent, but rulez nonetheless. and nice to have some well-styled well-designed non-visualice releases for once :)
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 20:00:08 by ryg ryg
updating to 40.72 detonators helped, now the demo works on my setup, too.

and yes, this is really nice demo. on top of cool visuals i like especially the colors and synchronization with the keyframing. also the music fits this style pretty well.

only minus, as ryg and sagacity stated as well is the incoherence - but then again it's pretty common demos are incoherent so i don't mind. :)
rulez added on the 2002-12-29 20:21:13 by melw melw
Wow, totally amazing. At least a demo that is surprising and not boring at all. I love it ! Great balance between 2D, 3D gfx and design.

Impossible to watch it... all 40.x (and +) nvidia drivers seems to test the screen max refreshrate and are unable to bypass this test...
I run my screen at a resolution that it's not made to handle (but it does).
I dont wanna have to bear a fixed 60Hz rate for a demo ;(

Well, i have a solution. Just do an DivX, so radeon users and more will be able to watch it;)

And please, if you could also do the "Till it's gone" capture, i think it would be cool.

thx

Excellent PC debut and a real worthy winner (could be a TP winner demo in better times)! Actually not running here. Maybe coz the old Detonator, but maybe also coz my TNT2.
added on the 2002-12-30 01:34:45 by Crest Crest
simply stunning.. couldn't tear my eyes away from it.. great music, good effects, nice 3d, really long.. liked the fake ending too.. went beyond my expectations.. best of all is the design of the overlays and text, etc. which is even better than the best haujobb.. these people should be making big bucks working for a world-class design firm instead of giving the milk away for free.. but i'm glad they did :)
rulez added on the 2002-12-30 01:58:24 by dyscotopia dyscotopia
Nice visuals and design, code is adequate and music is ok. Plus a lot of content. However, it all feels somewhat derivative and, frankly, I had ZERO fun watching it.

that's about time you guys switched to pc.. those fast 3d accels *do* help, eh?.. 8))
this demo is packed with coolness to the very top, my only gripe is that some scenes are pretty lifeless and displayed for a teensy bit too long. other than that - a rock steady thumb up for you polish brothas 8))
rulez added on the 2002-12-30 08:27:48 by bhead bhead
bhead: I don't believen they have "switched" to PC, a group that loyal to amiga just don't abandon the machine like that.

As for the demo, one of my favorite Amiga groups + one of my favorite = well, you do the math. ;)
rulez added on the 2002-12-30 10:34:26 by a_lee_n a_lee_n
gah, we take that last sentence once more, now featuring all words.

indeed,
i simply can't install any other drivers than 29.60 for my gf4go, other drivers fail to install, i need to wait for gericom to make new drivers, and i'm really not sure they'll adapt a new driver.

i don't like the title - boring and idealess like all haujobb productions titles. really ;) think more next time. all scenes looks like from c64 - so less objects, nothing moves ;(

back from new year's eve parties? more feedback please:) we don't think there is ever going to be a version for older drivers than 40.72. it's pointless.
esp. as older drivers dont do dx9..

however.. about the demo itself..
its nicegfx and such.. but if i only wanted nice drawings and objects i could visit a museum.. and i hate museums

nelius: read the readme.txt as well as the whole forum here. the demo DOESN'T work with radeon, path is being developed. stefan: well, if that's your attitude, then okay. we care about the design however and that is the flavour and major sense of demomaking.

what a stereotype for "scene design"!!! i only wish that one day more scene musicians will come to the conclusion that using mp3's provides some more headroom for production skills as well.

one of the rare demos i thumb-up without really liking it. cause its just too good judging objectively. too bad it doesnt work for me, leaves feeling of "something missing". also lacks originality but well, thats not what makes demo a good or bad one.

though i only seen it @ TUM, maybe i'll get into it checkin out again.

Good collaboration! More PC stuff from mawi perhaps? Or am I hoping too much? Good work anyway, had no problems running it (except on shitty intel gfx chip, I think it ran out of ram, half the textures disappeared :)

Let's see, nice models behind layers of well designed textures and nice colors, but no effects, and the music was OKish. I can see it's a design-demo, but it needs more than just that.

The graphics are nice. But the code is a bit too ordinary for my tastes, there are a few good ideas, but we want to see the earth tremble! :-)

Definitely one of the better productions - during these times tough, but still we need that little something extra.

I'm sorry to say that, BUT i can't watch it. The version from here does abnormal program termination. The download at madwizards.org is broken. The patch link from here is broken as well.

I'm running a GeForce-FX5200 with the latest official drivers from a week ago or so.

i think it's just something like NAH-KOLOR (95% of totsl work) demo released under wings of MADWIZARDS (5% - flapjack's end song, that is xtd's cover btw).

but it's good, really good. massive soundtrack is amazing. one of the best polish pc demos.

i've just made a on mistake. writing about flapjack's stuff i had "heavy traffic" on my mind... sorry.

so "planet loop" is 100% NAH demo then... =)

I would like to correct common misunderstanding that the so-called "patch" is the right version for everyone. It is the release for older (pre geforce) or non-nvidia gfx cards. Users of geforce or later nvidia hardware should run party version which is definitive in terms of features.

Those colours and visuals bring over an high interesting Retro/JulesVerne-Touch.
The whole production is very well in synch (ja, das hab sogar ich gemerkt, danke:) ).
Only the musical score makes a static feeling, what isn't bad in any way, just melodic ones are more my taste. Very interesting btw is to watch this production with Planet-Loop vice versa.
I like them both. Rulerz.

To be honest, I don't really like this demo. Stylistically it looks like a Sunflower ripoff and the scenes aren't really interesting or have a concept (or then I don't get it).

It looks nice, but..
