instant thumb for this line in the .readme

The A500 made a Guru after the jelly ball just before the roto-zoomer -
#00000003.00C091C8.
Watched it on the big thingie and it was just awesome!
rulez added on the 2009-12-06 11:52:09 by d0DgE d0DgE
Pretty decent intro. Didn't like the music but the rotozoomer was nice.

Too much code recycling (feels like Major release in 40k) and not working on 68000 means no thumb. Landscape part (screenshot) is nice though.
added on the 2009-12-06 12:28:07 by StingRay StingRay
it works on 68000
added on the 2009-12-06 12:33:34 by chriz74 chriz74
Not on my A500, crashes right before the roto-zoomer.

Crashes in latest WinUAE beta too, right where it does for the others - just after the rubberball.
added on the 2009-12-06 13:08:54 by menace menace
Found the problem, it's here:
Code: cmp.w #3,d0 bcs.b .skip add.w d0,d0 .skip ...

Under certain circumstances the index register which is used to read from some table for the rotozoomer (I guess) contains 1 which the 68000 apparently doesn't like.
Code: cmp.w #1,d0 bne.b .ok moveq #2,d0 .ok

will fix it.

Yay, cool little intro that made my day. Effects are well done, as was to be expected. I found the music got a lot better towards the end (cityscape zoomer, rubber sphere, rotator, 3d), where it fitted the effects really nicely.
rulez added on the 2009-12-06 15:49:19 by noname noname
well kinda recycled material of course but really good for an a500 40k intro nonetheless.
rulez added on the 2009-12-06 16:20:27 by dodke dodke
About the crash - sorry :O It must have been some last minute change since I did test with the A500 when the intro was almost done but I didn't test the very last version. Thanks for the suggested fix - I'll take a look into it and provide a fixed version ASAP.
added on the 2009-12-06 17:11:03 by vesuri vesuri
A fixed version is now available at http://www.jormas.com/download/jrm-mega.lha!

Since it does work on 68000 now ;D and since it's quite decent for an ECS 40k (despite the recycling), here's your thumb. =)

Just saw the youtube link (lazy option, I know). Pretty cool. It made my day this morning.
Good effects (that I need to test on the real thing soon) and a very decent tune.
It's great to see no-AGA prods nowadays. ;)

For those of you concerned about the "recycling the effects from Major Release": Sorry for not having the time to write any new effects. However, that's actually one of the reasons to create this production. If your point is "it looks just like Major Release" my point is "it looks just like Major Release which was 587752 bytes long but this one is 39980 bytes long". Sounds like a reasonable piece of recycling to me. You may of course disagree...

Thumbs up for reentering the Amiga scene, but I had hoped that you wouldn't just have recycled the effects from Major Release. So this time it has to be a piggie.

Stolen codes from several demos -
I can recall Pygmy Projects - Extension (1993)[very great demo] and one more from ??? - old demo which I can't remember....
I hate when people just cut some lines and use them without crediting 'em!

kenshigros, as you would know if you knew anything about demos or Amiga coding in general, absolutely no code in this production has been used from any other demo than 'Major Release', which was also written from scratch by me. The source code of this production is distributed along with the executable for your kind to study and learn. You are free to compare it to any demo. You won't find any code copying so please stop making false accusations and spreading outright lies. Thank you.
added on the 2009-12-17 10:06:55 by vesuri vesuri
To Vesuri,my deepest apologies. You are right I don't know anything about coding. To rephrase I find some resemblance with effects produced long time ago.
If for example you see the second effect in your demo it looks like as an old ambk (amos) effect I have ever encountered.
I am sorry again if I offended you it was not my idea to criticize because my english stinks (never been to school that long enough).
Sorry!
kenshigros, if you'd watched more than two demos you'd know that quite many demos use effects similar to other demos.

Worked perfectly on my CD32. I have an extension with 4MB Ram and a hd, but aside from that, it's like a vanilla 1200.

2. How did you managed to obtain such a nice Gouraud efx on the vector parts? Gorgeous!

1. There's a looping 16 pixel high dithered 1 bitplane gradient with the colors changed using the copper. Just a typical copper gradient with some help from a dithered bitplane.
2. By filling the polygons using an appropriate part of a radial gradient texture. This technique was first seen on the AGA demo Deep by CNCD in 1995 but works just as well on OCS as well.
