Definitely should have won. One of the best demos i've ever seen. Everything just fits so perfectly together and it looks stunning while music fits visuals so well that it makes me cry.
Thank you for finally completing this.
Thank you for finally completing this.
What pommak said, but with only one minor gripe. The explosion scene (shown in the screenshot) didn't have the balls i was hoping it would have had.
Should have won!
Well, it is a living canvas and what I've heard of the tech behind it... it's rather innovating and absolutely beautiful piece of work. Loved the soundtrack as well, not very often can you hear such quality vocals.
Re-release == Rob is jarig...
rare, as I understand it was released in a remix competition ..
What pommak said.
probably the most powerful and touching demo i've seen, the winner in my book
sound works but terrible visual glitches

Demoscene has all these crappy unwritten laws that serve no real purpose. If I want to release demo with same soundtrack, then I just do it.
DAMN FUCKING STRAIGHT.
sitting in an irish pub, drinking a cider while david rovics's playing guitar, behind him a screen showing with this demo. that would be something...
but as a demo only ...
but as a demo only ...
I like the intention behind this, and if it actually looked like a classic canvas painting it might've worked, but the visuals are awful, looking more like a contemporary glitch demo (aka a canvas overlay on low res and garish scenes) and there's no cohesion with the music at all.
beautiful!
i would appreciate a video!
<3
Art.
virne: My point is that this is THE SAME demo, concept-, content- and music-wise as shown at BP. The code for the painters-stuff just didn't seem to work at BP...
So (though honorable intention and all that) this probably shouldn't have competed at all (if the Stream compo rules don't allow that). You could just have released this as a final...
Just my 50 ct.

there's really nothing to compare this demo to, the one released at bp was one of the best demos in a long time, but this just goes way over that one...
love you virne!
so, any video yet? doesnt run on my machine for a reason or another...

'Application failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect.'
Vista 64-bit. Nvidia 9800M.
Anybody have any ideas what the hell that means?

When you're using the same graphics engine or anything you're recycling code, what's the big deal about that? Also, almost every demo is using polygon based rendering with pretty much identical lighting models etc. And nobody's been that butthurt for example about every mfx demo looking and feeling pretty much the same for about 5 years straight (No offense, just aggravating a bit to make my point :P )
This thumb goes straight up to pouet lamers' asses. This demo fucking rules.
This thumb goes straight up to pouet lamers' asses. This demo fucking rules.
all culture is about reusing ideas anyway.
Link the C runtime statically, please (Multithreaded instead of Multithreaded DLL). Then nobody will have that "side by side configuration incorrect" error message again. I don't want to install MSVCR60, MSVCR70, MSVCR71, MSVCR80, MSVCR81, MSVCR9 and all the other stuff just to be able to see all demos.
Doesn't run. :( Video please! Immediately!
Touching and amazing at the same time. Virne we love you <3
Won't run here either, I suspect a broken/missing manifest file of some kind but I'm no expert on manifests. It's probably the same problem you had at Stream.
I get missing dependencies for msvc(r/p)80 and vcomp (they are installed on my box, though) ... the dlls linking to them are the cxcore ones, if that's any help.

Recycled or not, definitely worth releasing!
30MB and don't run...
This is the best demo I've seen. Glory to God. Love you. <3
wow
I don't know if it should have won (as I didn't see the winning demo yet) but other than that, what Pommak and ricky martin said. Pury love! <3<3<3
maybe i should've seen this before all that hype. it still is nice tho.
Swift and smooth camera angle changes kind of contradict the visual style and the music here. (You want to make it look like a painting, but move around like you're in a game, so the post-fx-ness of that filter becomes more apparent). So, there's a clash between idea and direction, which makes it look odd and contradictorily, imho.
Ok my first reaction : ho god a shitty kooma art demo again. ... but wow it s not only great but i really felt the feeling ... great all the way. you proved me wrong.
absolutely awesome
Great show
Another masterpiece from the demoscene
This is definitively ART

Touching
Pretty moody and nice artistic expression, it just doesn't really reach me. Rendering was nice and fit the mood well. The music I don't like at all, not fan of the style, even though it might fit to the demo. Better than the breakpoint one but...it jsut doesn't appeal to me that way :/
A fantastic piece of work.
Amazing...one of the rare demos that evoke real emotions!
the effect / how its presented is very nice and original imho...
Pretty nice.
Original music for a demo.
Original music for a demo.
One of the few demos apart from ultimatum to the world that conveys a moral message that really works imho.
Great and thought provoking.

Made me cry. What a beauty.
cannot share the hype. piggie
Meh.. doesn't move me at all, sorry.
something real for a change
youtube vid looks great - and thanks for the quick fix - unfortujnately it still doesm't work

I agree with relias abardon
errh.. yeah, well. nice.
.
Wow
fresh
lol.
i like the graphics, and the song on its own could be something, but together it's like two good things that give you diarrhea
i like the graphics, and the song on its own could be something, but together it's like two good things that give you diarrhea
Nice atmosphere. Too bad it turns into a slide-show at some points.
sweet :)
I like the visuals very much.
Very touching.
Very touching.
Good. I like the music, the visuals go somewhere towards fitting it well, but fall a little short (I think it's the camera work, and maybe a few odd glitches like the explosion trails sometimes seemed to disappear suddenly).
Great to see people taking new directions - keep pushing at those boundaries :)

doesnt work for me even with the patch, is it maybe some ati problem again?
Doesn't run here (8800 GTS + Vista)
Finally a final! Oh, and what jugi said.
this is demo? hm...
Good. Much better than what I saw at BP.
Yay - the second fix worked! very very very very very very very nice
Looking at opinions of sentimental demos, I feel like I must be a terrible person with an unfair sense of cheese (I can't think of any good reason for it - but it's the way I am).. and somehow it's triggered by this demo in a way that it usually isn't. Otherwise, I agree with relias somehow.
Second fix worked here. Interesting demo...definitely a break from the usual fare. Nice job!
Ok, now let's see how many prods I need to spam for glöps so I can give the best demo of 2009 the CDC it deserves.
wellmade shit
it's better than claude monet!
Better than the original from Breakpoint, but it's not at all my style.
The last scene is beautiful.
beautiful.. keep on rocking virne!!
almost great. its just those camera movements and rendering glitches spring up and ruin the mood. if it were better directed, smoother and softer all round it'd really be something.
I want to have your child
Awesome
Didnt run on my old gf7950gt, but the youtube clip gave me the full experience. GREAT!
I really don't understand what is so wonderful in this demo.. piggy...
sorry
sorry
awesome piece of work!
Powerful!

well, not my cup of tea.
but thumb up for trying something different within the demo context.
but thumb up for trying something different within the demo context.
Ok, but I hate this kind of music so much. Wants me punch someone. Would work much better with blues.
Thank you!
The glitches and movements makes it look a bit crappy and cheap, which is a shame since it's a really good and different demo
tumb up for having the guts to try something different! although it's not exactly my cup of tea eitherl ;-)
-b
A lot lot better than the previous version but as a demo not really my cup of tea.
I can see some love put into this. But I can also see some lack of energies for achieving the original vision.
A shame.
A shame.
nice work!
It doesn't run on my PC even with the fix. I get "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."
I do have updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 with the latest DirectX 9.0c (August 2009), ATI Catalyst driver, etc. :(

Oops, I got it to work with v1.03 patch (http://www.chairmanandboard.com/kooma/kooma_boacb_dc_patch_1_03.zip). Now, it worked.
Not a bad demo, but not my style. Love the textures and meaning though!

I actually prefer the first version, but still nice
I didn't like this one, besides the music. Just barely gets a pig from me..
i'm not that impressed by the visuals - but the song is awesome.
so different and fresh. I really hate that I did not like it...
nice visuals and music, but some power is missing. have my thumb. :)
What proteque said.
Great! Not technically amazing but a fresh and different approach. Cool unexpected music too!
good
.
i liked the style and the treatment, but icould and should have been pushed further, mainly the paint effect. It's hard not to feel the classic 3D scene behind. You know, stuf like the camera on a rail with a fixed lookat point.. also that the camera is ALWAYS moving doesn't help much. Would have been great to see the canvas anymated. Those are minor tweaks/suggestion for your next prod maybe ;)
Nah
nah. the demo triggers emotions alright, but for what purpose?
sure, cluster bombs suck, but, like, i knew that before i saw this demo.
also, i'm not that much into that antiwar stuff anymore.

Amazingly emotive! It is very pure, very… can't find the word… Ah yes! L'art nouveau de la Demoscène. <3
rulez
can you do final with the patches attached?
its not pleasant to me
of course
we need more of this kind
Yuck
That overlay is just fugly. Not much to see because of it, and there doesn't seem to be much to see anyway.
Butt ugly. Sorry.
completely not my cup of tea, but surprisingly i like this one anyway - well done!
Wonderful party experience.
finally something new.
quite cool! I like the "dirty"/distorted kind of look. Sometimes I get tired of all the high tech sharp 3d stuff, and it's nice to see some gritty grungy stuff every once in a while. :)
well done. I am glad to see something that rises above adolescent expectations.
Excellent! I really love the visual style and the soundtrack.
It was very refreshing to see at the party and it's amazing it didn't win the whole competition. Oh well. :)

i dont like the music, but i very much do like how you interpreted it, very thoughtfuly done, great piece of work thanks :)
lovely
This is so not a demo, but it is so right.
As much as I like the theme I must say that I don't like the main filter effect, I don't like the music and I don't like the objects.
the music could be a bit more professional and i like the visual approach but there room for improvement as well.
one could also add its a cheesy story.
but it touches me. its different. i love it.

fresh!
Is it kitch?
No.
It's art.
And it is very okay.
No.

Moving.
As an old Coma fan, I *MUST* thumbup this one too :)
I liked the style.

Oh noes, the overlay!
different and original
Really nice piece of art with sense.
The music could carry this work on its own. Luckily, it doesn't have to. I have never seen better use of lyrics in a demo.
this has grown on my and it really deserves a thumb
Whoa - I really didn't thumb this one up yet. Very moving, perfect harmony in music and visual impressions.
is ok
Yes.
100% music vote. i don't care about the nice visuals :D
Nice!
Brilliant.
Doesn't run, and the 1.03 version link posted above is dead. :(
unique visual style
Uncanny valley? ;)
I like it more than the final version.
Forget to thumbs up 7 years ago.
