pretty cool, nice to see noisy demos for a while. however did not work on mobility radeon x1600 (as expected), some shader compilation issues:

Shaders _should_ work on ATI but our mobility X1600 crashes during the startup even when shaders are fine. You can try updating your drivers and cross your fingers.

High-quality video version will be available in few days for those unlucky ones who can't run the executable. Please do a favor to us (and yourself) and don't watch youtube version if someone makes one.

I'll need to check the video to make sure I saw this correctly, because what I saw on my screen was a tragic mess that wouldn't even pass through Next Empire's quality control.

pera you might get that no errors -error randomly due to whatever reason (at least i get that randomly in random mfx demos). Just try to run the demo again :-)

No idea why people hate noise this much, but it's one of the only things one can't really have control over. And if an artist shows up, who in this particular case is Nosfe, and controls the flow of the noise, then it's pure beauty. Might be just personal tastes, but I think there's a fine line between random crap and art, this is on the second side.

there are some interesting structures appearing, but there are also too many pointless scenes, but I guess that goes with the genre.

I would like to see a production like this with a bit more polish.

ps: we might consider doing a lesser quality video, but unlike many other demos, this one really loses its point if viewed in lower resolution / quality. Video is mostly for mac people or those who have good processor but bad graphics card.

Uff. I really liked the noise, but the sound is unbearable. Why does this stuff always have to be paired up with sound you just can't stand to listen to? Just because it's artsy, does not mean it has to be a pain in the arse ( or the ears in this case ).

Damn, that was great! Only thing I didn't like was the 'bird sounds' at the end.. I thought it either needed something visual to match (like a 'return to something natural' at the end), or that sound cutting. But otherwise, stunning!

With demos like this I often wonder if it's intended to look like this or if it's some random experiment that just turned out that way.

Given that I hate minimalism, it's no surprise that I dislike this demo. It looks awful and
the spec requirements make no sense for such a basic effect.

I guess it's anti-Wade day today. :)

Pommak: Sure, I don't have a clue about the technical side of this demo, but from a visual point of view I don't get much impact.

Actually, I'm a big fan of your work, but I think your previous demos have much more impact and more visual appeal.
added on the 2008-09-24 13:45:36 by Wade Wade
dodge: well, no wonder you wont get the value out of the thing, you dont even bother watching them as meant to be experienced.. wouldnt fsol type of ambient need some more colors then greyscale to work as a demo btw? ;)

Wade, even though you might see nothing but noise in this demo, underlying code has functionally animated depth correct artifact minimal steep parallax mapping with dynamic reflections and all the time post process effects create pixel accurate image based "noise" along with moire effects and color bleeding. All this runs in 720p at decent framerate on my mobile geforce 7800, which I don't consider very high-end gfx card anymore. Of course it's not 60fps 1080p but even that is achievable on gefore 8800, which is not the case with many other demos. Therefore I really don't understand why system requirements wouldn't make no sense.

Our way of representing that crap might not be so obvious, but if you could concentrate for 8 minutes and watch this all on a big screen (even 40" FullHD is enough) you probably could understand the visuals a bit better. Watch this from a laptop screen and you basically lose the point of this demo.

Of course the overall concept and design isn't definitely for everyone's taste, but if you think we have just some random shit running on screen you're completely wrong.

Sq : Ok i m a bit sarcatic. Sorry .
But well, when i design a monster that looks like a pile of random polys in real time i can consider that i failed and i have to try again.
Here, I have the feeling that a random pile of poly could fit this demo quite well...
Im might be wrong.

This is true for this demo. Deities or ather are completly different.

Pommak: Maybe my comment sounded harsh and I apologise that I offended you, but please understand I was not criticising your code with my comment.

As a graphics guy, I usually base my opinions on the visual aspects of a production. Personally, I hate 128 and 256 byte intros and alike because they don't look good to my eyes and I don't know enough about the code to appreciate it. Same goes for this demo.

When I think of high specs, I think of elaborate scenes, lots of fancy graphics, and more of a cinematic look.

I know you are an outstanding coder and I have a heap load of respect for your previous productions, so please don't take my comment as an insult towards your coding abilities. But this demo looked too basic for my tastes.

As you can read from infofile, the demo might have problems with some hw configurations, especially on ATI systems. We didn't have time to fix all ATIs OpenGL driver problems, but you can try updating your drivers. I've heard it works on X2600 (with good FPS) and I guess that card might be somewhat similar to X2400. And if nothing else helps then there's a video version.

Pommak: I have to say, I got around 1fps from my 7800 GT, which is basically why I considered this to need high specs (I was thinking 8800 just to run).

Finally got a computer that runs this one. One could say mfx has lost their touch, but I think they went back to their roots after all the mainstream releases.

For a first time watching it was an interesting experiment - first feeling like discovering all the "cool" filters in Photoshop 4 back in the days, emerging finally into a grand noise bliss. The moment when the camera raises from the "sea of noise-embossed shapes" was alone worth the wait.

Moire interference to the max - finally a 3D hw acc demo catches up with sw 2D!

why is the video 1.5 gb
Because random pixel info each frame is the enemy of every video encoder.

Highish quality 1080p video is now available here. We recommend a fast SSD drive for best viewing pleasure.

Great to see proper avantgardist stuff in the demoscene. The visuals are great and fuck everyone who can't handle the music, it's a good track.

I usually don't thumb down, but this was so bad in so many areas that I need to.

Nosfe is the Damien Hirst of Noise, but lamer.

Hm, I actually quite enjoyed this. I usually like these ambient sorta noise demos a lot more than just senseless headfuck. In general, I always appriciate original and experimental content, so long as it is conduited well. The visuals seemed nice, though in the end it just is noise. Had to watch on the video though because this hates ati, so I couldn't fully see them in great detail. These demos truely require a certain mood and viewing conditions to watch, and be truely immerse into these visuals and audio. Well, it's a thumb up from me.

while this is easily the best crafted and visually most stunning noise-demo ive seen the sound made my teeth hurt and i felt like my brain was about to explode.
i didnt even want to imagine hearing this on a proper soundsystem at the partyhall! :p

Possibly the first noise demo I like :O Didn't enjoy the music that much, but the ordered rendering versus random chaos ratio of the visuals was spot on.

Absolute mindfuck, only in the demoscene do you see art like this.

Just dowloaded the avi. It´s easy to see why a gallery would want this. A great vision realized very open to interpretation.

Been surprised by the amount of variety in that one.

Noise well done. Worth the thumb. (and congratz for being in an art collection. I can easily see it standing in an exposition :)
