its the unlimited cubes effect! Love the shaded cubes.
Tube isn't as advanced as this one, but I believe Lattice by 3sc may be. Really cool shading on the cubes though.. Check if same voxel twice, then shade?

IMHO the shading is much easier, i.e : color for front faces = distance // color for left/right faces = distance - 16 // color for top/bottom faces = distance - 32

One of the best 256b prods, I have ever seen!
how do you know which side of a cube you are shading? I managed to find out how I was on top of a voxel in "Any One of these suckers" here : http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=12709 but I never got a good idea of how to predict whether I was on the left or the right side of a voxel.

well, in neja ( in the part between the tunnel and the metaballs ), I did it the brute force way :p There is 3 tiny loops, one to test each axis aligned faces. I suppose picard did it that way too, to fit the algo in 256b.
there is one loop here (per pixel). it follows the ray and when hits (x*x+y*y+z*z>A) it checks the previous ray coordinates. if prev.x!=hit.x -> left/right side, if prev.y!=hit.y -> top/bottom side (it's not perfect)
