Powerful demo.

It runs on my MacOS, but the music plays very fast, like on fast forward. Although, I have an old OS, version 10.15.1.

So I watched the demo in Dosbox-X.

A very impactful demo. And as my daughter said, "the music is extremely danceable".

It is a bit uneven though, lacks a concept aside from a colorscheme and the visual fidelity is a bit inconsistent between the parts (such as the spaceship), which takes a bit away from the initial feeling of "if this was released in the late 90s, it would have been a demo for the ages". But there is no perfection, and this is very good in eny case.

My favorite parts were the fractal morpher and the really moody voxel.

I love everything about this! Great voxels and marching cubes! Well done!

Favourite from compo. Lots of great looking parts with a strong soundtrack.

You had me at the loading screen... (awesome idea!)
Very nice vibe, colorscheme and music.
The spaceship looks a bit out of place IMHO, but those voxels and pixel-graphics... yummie!
(Also: yay! finally a windows executable demo that runs on my machine :-) )

This took us a while to finish, but it was a fun project. Hope you all enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it. Thanks to everyone involved!

In the tradition of the great demos of the 90s, a multipart presentation with kick ass music. Some pretty neat effects and good flow. This is a labor of love and it shows. I enjoyed every moment of it, congratulations!

Niiice!! So amazing to see a DOS prod of this caliber turn up. Love the style, vibe, banging head-nodder tune and super tight direction with solid transitions between parts. I'll be sure to crank it on hardware (DOS + GUS) next week to watch it in full VGA palette-value-clamping glory. It's such a flex to also be able to release for IRIX too - I hope a few SGI users out there get it up and running. Thanks for the greet - looking forward to more from this collab in the future!

It runs so smoothly, it's almost uncanny. The clean visual design is also appreciated. My favourites were the terraformed Mars and liquid mercury scenes.

0.5 thumb for slick presentation.

0.5 thumb for being multi platform.

A couple of what the hell moments for me, such as the motion
blurred tunnel (best non accelerated ever) and the text particles swirling. Maybe the authors can write about it..

Great demo! I love the code, graphics, 16-channel XM and the fact it runs even on Silicon Graphics!

The julia-morph "tunnel" and 3D blob in rain water with fluid dynamics were very cool effects! The color scheme and gfx added quality to it, reminded me of TEK's stuff. The music wasn't synced up to the effects quite as well as Demoded.

I tried it in PCem with Pentium MMX 233 processor (probably not exact hardware speed, but hopefully more accurate than DOSBox). It ran very well with little slowdown. I figure that would make it comparable to late 97-mid 98 DOS demos, which would have made it a very impressive release for the time. I guess that's "oldschool" enough for the Assembly compo. :) Well done!

re: Navis' last comment, I'm guessing the tunnel was an animation since there's an anim lib in the source.

it's indeed an animation (see tunnel1..tunnel3.png), albeit i'd say a clever one ;) runs pretty well on my P233MMX+S3

About the tunnel:
We're swapping between 4 textures, all contained in the data/tunnel2.png, one regular and 3 pre-blurred by different amounts, see src/scr/tunnel.c (the other tunnel texture files were included by accident, they were experiments of similar but slightly different versions of the texture set). Besides swapping the pre-blurred variants of the texture, the effect is a bog-standard pre-calculated polar tunnel mapping, and shifting the vertical texture offset to "move" through the tunnel, and of course also depth cueing/fog.

The particle dispersion is a pre-calculated perlin noise vector field, every time each particle is accelerated by the vector corresponding to its current position. Previous particle frames are blured and new particles are additively added on top (idea ripped from ibiza experience/orange).

phoenix: libanim is my generic keyframe track interpolation library. It's mainly used by the demosystem to interpolate event values in various ways: https://github.com/jtsiomb/libanim/

Notes down in todo.txt: Try differently blurred textures in tunnel for cool motion blur

Some cool fx and nice music, but the visuals seemed completely disconnected from each other and the sountrack. With more consistency, transitions etc, this could have been something memorable. Weak thumb up.

the tunnel and julia were especially nice, but overall cool oldschool show! would have loved a tighter coupling of audio and visual, though.

I thought it would be fun to do a quick android port. Hopefully it works on most devices: https://mindlapse.demoscene.gr/prods/aleph0-mindlapse_desire.apk
The source code for the android port is part of the same git repo.
