  I've played around with the code in the last few days and I've managed to get it down to 196b with only a slight change of visuals (removing the double buffering, removing the waiting for vertical retrace etc.). The palette setup code is 69b, so without it, it would fit in 128b. But it would look ugly.

  I guess the primary reason why DOS is not a suitable operating system for modern PCs is that DOS can address only 2 GB of memory.
