Lots of people say the twisting scroller is the 'impossibru' effect. Would be cool with some background why in particular that one? Is it because there are too many pixels to plot considering the framerate and the background is complex?
Good question. It looks like the scroll is a long-ish texture and then a LUT plotter rolls the 10k or pixels in each frame, which should be possible. Could also be executed as a plain RT de-packed animation. But then again, I'm sure it's more complicated than that. Maybe someone who looked into it can chime in. :) - isokadded on the 2017-02-13 10:39:54

 - Fun fact: In x64sc, the effect in the screenshot is a no-show. Also make sure to enable digi boost with the new SID or use the old one to actually hear the point of the text flicker screen. :)

 - demo Commodore 64 Neon by Triad [web]
 - Well executed crowd-pleaser, even if the 1980s theme is a bit yawn-inducing by now.

 - An inspired version of this could be the scene's equivalent of Abstract Expressionist art.

 - demo Windows Esocentrica by Andromeda Software Development [web] & Satori [web]
 - 10 years ago, this would've amazed me, but these days it looks too much like a remix or a mashup of other, better demos that came before.

 - Quite a few signs of a rushed release, but the interviews are a nice read.

 - demo Commodore 64 The Phoenix Code by Bonzai
 - I like that this demo abstains from extensive data flushing (you know, demos that fill a whole disk side with three effects), and is very measured in its approach; on the other hand it's probably slightly unremarkable, disjointed and creatively quaint, without any particular "whoa" moments or surprises in it. Everything is very solid, but not quite outstanding. Still, a good one overall.
