actually it´s not that complicated as it might look.
and it is not a technique that i invented.
other guy´s pushing the envelope much further
with that technique. look at the guys from prometheus.
it is a combination from zbrush sculpting and a clever
uv texture layout in blender and then displacing the
geometry with a greeble map.
and then using a inverted depth map rendering for fog
and depth of field in photoshop.
and lots of „hide shit with glow“ :)
i´m experimenting with camera mapping.
projecting that rendering back onto a low poly geometry.
think of this: you have have a low poly model. you dont have
to care about lighting - it´s already baked into the model.
ofcourse it´s limited with angles. (you cant go around the object
and some painting for the "hidden shadow areas" is needed)
and reflections and refractions won't work aswell
