I remember him laughing his ass of when hearing he was called "The English Guy" in my phonebook, I "corected" it to "The English Meaty Guy" after that. It's so sad that great fellow as he was has passed away. RIP.

best memory i have of him is the acapella singing of bohemian rhapsody at the boozembly hills of assembly 2005 or 2007 or whatever year it was.

RIP meaty, I will really miss you, the laughs, the trolling and the ongoing quest for weirdest-shit-to-put-in-your-quiz :)

You illuminated so many around you with your wits and your presence, its so sad, so short lived and the world really is a worse off place without you. Peace, brother.

Wow, this sucks. Huge loss to both the scene and the planet. RIP.

I … I don't really know what to say. I have had so many memories with him. I suddenly miss all of those childish `my group is better than yours` jokes that came after every single party we attended together. I miss the times we spent drunken discussing about weird, useless but entertaining stuff on Assembly TV, Breakpoint Compostudio, heck even the ultimately drunken times at Boozembly. I even like your silly new glasses. You said you were getting better, too… :( What happened all of a sudden? What changed?

You truly are someone I'll be remembering with a smile on my face. All that limited time we spent together, you managed to entertain and enlighten me. Thank you, you silly thing. I'll be really missing you.

Didn't know him, but he always seemed to be such a friendly guy. My condolences to velo and cryptic, and the rest of the scene.

Dammit meaty :(

We reacently discussed his plans to come to Sweden and I was really looking forward to drinking a berr and some mintu. Guess he's now backstroking in Demoscene heaven and having a beer by the poolside.

R.I.P Meaty!

Going to miss you like crazy.

damn, this is some hard news :( It was just a few days ago we were chatting on IRC, and he was saying how seriously ill he had been but he was recovering. I guess the infection fought back again and he wasn't so lucky this time.

RIP meaty, you'll be missed.

I tried to come up with a few words on behalf of ASMORG: http://www.assembly.org/summer12/news/in-memoriam-giles

I didn't get much sleep last night. This is so unexpected and wrong. The good guys always leave too soon. I cherish our times together at ASMTV and our chat discussions about some of his latest demoscene accomplishments he was always completely thrilled about with a childlike enthusiasm. :')

R.I.P. very unexpected, rubbish news. Remembering various conversations - especially the invention of the cockbambi, heh :) and was always good catching up on how his softsynth was going the few times I saw him.
Even though I never talked to him, I always admired his personality and it makes me really sad, that something like this happened to someone like Giles.

AssemblyTV has published a nice In Memoriam. I still can't believe it..

An absolute shock.

I first met Giles in '99 when we both worked at the same small UK games company. He was introduced to me as "the man who melted our server with his code". And I do mean that he actually melted it. He left the company about the same time I joined and it wasn't until several years later that we met again at one of the #UKScene pub meets. It was always a good time when he was around. I'll especially remember all those absolutely bat-shit crazy discussions on IRC.

We'll obviously all miss you a lot Giles :(

I was always happy to see Meaty and cooperate with him for the quiz shows. It feels utterly strange and unacceptable that he is no longer with us. Meaty, I will miss you!

only met Meaty once, but i am very glad i did. i share the same sentiment as the rest of you; he was really easy to talk to, very interested in other peoples work, had a great sense of humor; just an all around really nice guy. my deepest condolences go out to close friends and family.
