The archive includes both a crunched and an uncrunched version, and I suggest you run the uncrunched one on a 000-machine :)

Will release an accelerator-fixed version later on, so don't even think of running it on your 060-amiga or UAE with JIT enabled.

Very good, except that one particular slow cube-light-tunnel thing which really ruins it for me.

Well get one, everyone needs an Amiga.
Great a500 demo! Effects never seen on OCS before.

the tmapper was fcked up here. is there some way to remedy that?

loaderror: you can wait for the accelerator-fixed version, because the smc-stuff really doesn't like cache

Although the framerate was looow at times, I enjoyed this prod a lot. :)

i know texture mapping can be a pain to do well on a plain-jane a500, so, respect.

More like an a500+ or a600 prod but good anyway :]

Some scenes which I never thought possible on an A500 :). Low framerate in some parts, but hey, this is good stuff!

A fantastic production with amazing effects! Thank you guys for this! I'm totally blown away to see such a prod in 2008 for Amiga ECS.

Too bad I don't have any 68000 Amiga here that fulfills the memory requirements. :) And as the demo is funked up on my 4060 I'll have to wait for the 680x0 fixed version. :) The thumb has to wait for now as I don't want to watch it on UAE. :)

Impressive effects and texture mapper for the 500 although it had some dirty rendering here but maybe it is the emulator and not an attempt to fake texture mapping with something ugly or anything :P

I can imagine the technical challenge in doing that on an Amiga ecs, but it's definitely a demo I will watch again later.

Pretty great demo! Some of the scene would look better with a faster framerate but I guess it is still a pretty fast routine for that kind of machine :)

Big up!

Small thumb up for this demo. Effects are very nice but also too slow for a good flow. Music doesn´t fit to the demo and is not really good at the beginning...

Nice demo for A500+! A bit slowish in some screens but i like it.
rulez added on the 2008-08-09 13:18:07 by Paranoid Paranoid
Same old chunky effects that appear in every Amiga demo, runs slow and the music is abysmal.

Seems to highlight the Amiga's shortcomings rather than its capabilities.
sucks added on the 2008-08-09 15:02:02 by Wade Wade
this is actually pretty good. the offset maps are indeed ancient but the 3D is quite solid. although, i'd rather have a bit less polys and running 12 fps+ or so. also, i liked the style.

only thing i didn't like was the extreme ram requirements.

overall, good job! gimme more!
rulez added on the 2008-08-09 15:25:17 by earx earx
Good enough. I'll thumb it up when the 512+512 diskloader version appears. ;)
@Wade
Way to miss the point. How many times have you seen these kinds of effects in a 68000/ECS demo?
added on the 2008-08-11 20:25:25 by xeron xeron
Xeron: Fair enough, it takes a lot of work to code on an ECS Amiga and I should show more courtesy by elaborating.

But it's not like these are AGA quality effects achieved on an A500. In my opinion they're A500 quality effects. My point is that cutting down effects to run on a lesser machine isn't so impressive to me and it comes at the cost of visual appeal (same reason I hate most post 1995 Amiga demos).

Personally, I prefer to see blitter, copper, sprite, parallax and scrolling effects because the Amiga does it so well. No disrespect intended towards the makers of this demo, but I think if you want to produce "big" effects, you may as well produce them on a "big" machine.
added on the 2008-08-12 16:44:04 by Wade Wade
wade, but aren't all the compos and categories with size or hardware restrictions about trying to push the limits? and since when were demos ever only about visual appeal and not the technical side at all?
added on the 2008-08-13 15:53:26 by dodke dodke
I share some points from both Xeron and Wade.
I highly honor the technical aspect of producing those chunky-fx on such a low level - being forced to heavily use (rape ;D ) the chipset.

On the other hand, I never really liked the look (gradiant colours etc.) of these fx. So -to go along with Wade's point- I'd rather appreciate high class A500 effects that look contemporary.

Thus, the thumb up for the great team effort and the code...I'll never be capable of doing this.

They're not, but demos appeal to everyone for different reasons. As a designer/artist, I look for visual criteria over technical appeal. Many technical minded people will think the opposite.

Naturally I respect the ability of coders to achieve something like this, but it's just not my thing.

Everyone should take my perspective for what it is: just one man's opinion based on personal tastes.
added on the 2008-08-17 16:17:06 by Wade Wade
nice, but not revolutionnary, table based effects, the mapping looks relatively fast but the scenes are too damn heavy to run at an acceptable framerate.

gruik.

That is the right type of demo for an ECS Amiga. I missed it for years.

a bit disadvantaged by the missing audio channel at the party, übergreat technically and design-wisely, but imho it lacks the soul of renaissance and the next level so the 3rd place is quite fair :)

I suppose it's technically impressive for ECS, but otherwise just repeat of what's been in AGA/030/060 demos for years. Music is particularly unimpressive, not sure how Legend managed to produce something so unlistenable .. so piggy this time.
