Incredible work for a 4k intro !
Landscapes are so beautiful !!!
The music is great too.
Incredible job !

Incredible job !
I want to see this but i only see "blinking white screen" with background music(gf2mx win2000)
i think it's not that good... why the screenshots looks much better than the intro itself? oh well, not too bad either..
I still have to pick my jaws from the floor. Frenetic, you are the man!
when the first pictures showed up, everybody was like "wtf, a slideshow?"... but then everything started to move and the crowd went mad.
Very cool!
nice but boring i thought...
but then it started to move!
this is soo cool

very impressive. looked fucking pretty. definetly the best one in the compo.
but, i hate those windows-midi sounds used in music (the same problem was with almost all the pc 4k intros). whould be better even without sound at all.

really nice one! just great
Why don't this work for me?? My machine should be up to the test, AMD XP1600+, Geforce3 ti500, 256MB, WinXP??
Well, what the hell, I'll just wait for the final. Please hurry ;)

Really amazed me, especially when it started moving. Reminded me of a 256b Anapurna, even though the only thing in common is cool landscapes in little space. I have to agree that the music could have been better, but it wasn't awful or anything.
This was f*cking great. New dimension in 4k coding!
WTF???
we like pixel shaders in 4k
Woohoo!
the sickest shit in 4k i've ever seen
... on my pc the screen is black...
but the screenshots reminds me about a man who wrote a book about texturing and modeling, and accidentally later, after producing a realtime virtual world renderer, called himself Doc Mojo...
... but probably it's just a coincidence ;)
(anyway, looks like a good work, from the music I've heard and the screenshots I've seen).

Very good on bp'03 screen.
Works almost nowhere !
mobility radeon 9000 -> suxx
geforce4go -> suxx
geforce2mx -> suxx
geforceFX5800 -> suxx
Guys please release a fully tested version !

slowest landscape ever... i couldn't imagine some people can do this things so slow... ok it's beautiful, but why it's so slow?
makes all other mountians look like crap
flickering white screen. only music. (gefoce2, win2000) i want a final ;)
extreme!
really nice buildup atmosphere, as it starts like a slideshow, people saying .. 'hmm ok pictures' then slowly starting to move, with us saying 'wtf!'
Actually got it running on a R9500pro...
Anyway, this fucking EATS YOU!
Anyway, this fucking EATS YOU!
i couldnt trust my eyes when i saw that. fucking great! but please please please make a final which works on more cards!
Incredible. Best 4k I've seen so far.
First images turned up I thought "yeah, yeah, now do that in realtime". And they did. Fuck!
gets my best prod of saturday award. :)
ace landscapes!
ace landscapes!
when it started to move, I was like "wtf?! too much beer probably?"..
i thought this was actually quite simple but it looks fucking beautiful
It seems that some guys don't want to read the .nfo
So here again briefly:
the party version runs on GeForce 3/4 (probably FX) and new Radeon Cards with DX9, and of course newest drivers. No "2go" versions of GPUs, because the party version relies on full hardware vertex processing, 32 bit index buffers etc.
I will do the final version as soon as I have some time... give me 2 weeks or so...

yeah, nice intro. from the technical side it is really great... i love your algorithm, really easy to code but it creates great results. music is a midi, right?
mmh, i could watch this intro here, but it crashes at the end (pc has to be rebooted :/
ah, and by the way, frenetic: upvoting your own production sucks ;)
that's why i'll give it only a pigface.

ack, i love it! this rocks so hard.
Damn fucking amazin...unfortunatly it doesn't run here on my computer. Definitely one of the highlights of the party!!!!
"your" algorithm? THIS IS A BLATANT _RIP_ OF ATI:s ATMOSPHERE SCATTERING DEMO..
yeah he did some size optimizing and landscape generation but any code monkey can do that..
algorithm: http://www.ati.com/developer/dx9/ATI-LightScattering.pdf
demo with source (scroll down): http://ati.com/developer/demos/r8000.html

and yea i guess an algorithm can't (?) be patented but basing an entire demo/intro around a single effect being written by someone else is LAME.
very nice.
ector: the example sources on ati's developer site are meant to be ripped.

Well, this was something. Cool generated landscapes, building up nicely towards the end, a real eye-candy just in 4k. Only flaw was the bad music, but I can understand it's not easy to fit everything in 4k.
Oops they did it again :) Great stuff, last year was already awesome, but this year's intro is by far more impressive.
r0k: trying to learn someone here how 'hard' it is to code a 4k under windows? haha =)
( i can clearly see someone being hurted by the ripping accusations.. wich i find funny, since the music sucks, the fps sucks, the landscape is ok. )
if this had contained ANYTHING new, and perhaps something even intresting, i would give it a pigface, but now . it sucks :)

it doesn't work in my computer but this intro rules.
I was just sitting there thinking "Well nice slideshow for a 4k. Would be nice if it mov...OMFG!!"
Ector:
What a really dumy comment...
I guess every intro/demo/whatever is just a plain ripoff then. Most of them use some sort of 3d engine, wooo, a plain ripoff I say since that was already done way before!
Putting all that stuff in 4k is enough for big "WOW". Given the visual quality and atmosphere this is a super-wow.
May I give it another thumb-up please!!?

Fucking great!

Tomaes, who are you?
Fantastic. It seems to be a bit picky about the configuration, but hey, I was lucky :)
oh my... very impressive and r0ck0ring intro. great work. im stunned...... *zip
This 4k really KICKS !!! Another masterpiece in 4k coding!
Although the music really sucks! Maybe there should be a FINAL release with a better fitting music then instead.
As the bad music destroys the very impressive general atmosphere...

i like all the general idea.
this is great!
rocks. more!
4k for the masses :)
4k for the masses :)
Absolutely amazing! Excellent work! Thumbs up!
I didn't see any landscapes, only the sky. (win xp, radeon 8500)
woo
Love it.
the intro rocks big time! its effect on the audience at the partyplace was amazing.
oh, and stefan is such an incredible lamer.

4k..
well.. I watched relais right before this and I didn't think anything could top it, two very good demo's :)

sadly it doesnt run on my pc :( but i saw it a t bp03 and it ruled completely. together with the gba-demo it was the best on the party.
damn good work!
@steffan...damn i knew ur lame but this is a new level.
/me hands a beer to jazzman ;)

huhu \o) nice (o/
doesnt work here, dx9 stuff :) wont install it yet eheh.. what is stefan doing? (besides give thumb down and diss almost all prod) Wanna see something he made if he have made anything at all..
This is absolutely flabergasting for a 4k production! Terrific landscape, I'm just speechless =)
These guys have real talent
These guys have real talent
not amazing, but nice nonetheless.
Oops, looks damn weird on my Radeon 9000! Can't you release a 5k version that also works on non-GF4 boards? ;-)
Nevertheless I was stunned when I saw it on the party, my jaws really dropped down...

Sniff.. I got a GF4Ti w/ the latest drivers and DX9, and it still doesn't run, so I guess it doesn't like Win98.
I'd really like to watch this thing, but I have an ATI Mobility M4... could someone make a DiVX or XViD version please?
This is so fucking great. I cannot believe it. And I also liked the music very much. Great work!
W.O.W
I was short on time the first time I ran this, so I only saw the first couple scenes. They were static, so I thought, "Okay, nice scenes, but this is pretty boring." A few months later, I've finally had some time to watch it the whole way through (while cleaning out my demo folder). When the clouds appeared, I thought it looked nice, but then the camera started to move around the terrain in later sequences, and at that point, I was pretty stunned. Definitely one I'll be keeping, now that I've experienced it all the way through. :) Nice ending, too.
Perhaps the best looking 4k so far. Good landscapes, music was not too bad imo, surface rendering was very nice, and the clouds were nice :)
And just to make all the ati lamers angry, i watched it on a radion mobility 9200 with no problems :)
And just to make all the ati lamers angry, i watched it on a radion mobility 9200 with no problems :)
Impressive how people can rise the limits of 4k when the cpu-power is high enough.
awesome!!!
great beautifull! also 4kb!??
absolutely flabbergasting!
where is final version???
Quite impressive! Very, I don't know, dark... Twilightish... End of the World, when the sun swallows the planet... And the music fits
nice screenshot, waiting for a final... will sure never be released. party compo machine intros without a final compatible version just suck.
Just watched it again and it is for 2003 what Störfall Ost was for 2000 - the most impressive 4k of the year.
nice one!
As was mentioned, is base on Doc Mojo's (Dr. F. Kenton Musgrave) work. And nothing is wrong with that. If you say that it is, then you would have to complain about any demo ever that contained Fractals :)
In the late 80s Doc Mojo worked with Benoit Mandelbrot(and if you don't know who he is then all hope is lost for you) to bring landscape generation to a new level.
Mandelbrot himself calls Doc Mojo "the first true fractal-based artist."
Doc Mojo's latest work can be seen in the awsome program MojoWorld
For examples of what MojoWorld can do you can checkout the galleries at the MojoWorld home page listed above, or even better check out Armands Ausekelis's work.
Here are a few example links, ranging from the tradition landscape: Hiden Paths II to the organic The Final Mushroom
Armands home page is TerraEscape where you can also see some of his older Terragen work.
And of course more info can be found in Texturing & Modeling: A Procedural Approach
which is now in it's 3rd Edition written by David S. Ebert, Dr F. Kenton "DocMojo" Musgrave, Darwyn Peachey, Ken Perlin, and Steven Worley.

4k....wow. Definately pushing the limits, looks great too.
Yes! The final works on my system. The screen shots made me expect a lot from this prod, and I am not disappointed. On the other hand, I hoped it would be a bit more exciting. Welcome to the beautiful-but-slow 4k club!
Generally I'm not a big fan of 4k intros, but this is damn impressive. Absorbing atmosphere and very pretty to look at too.
Worked before and works now :) Still a great prod :)
Nice, although it feels like the music is out of synch
Works on Radeon 8500! Graphics would be very good for 64k, but 4k... :-O
Music is ok, but disappointing compared to the visuals. The used MIDI tone colors do not really fit together in case of my sound card. I like the tune itself though.
In your next intro you could try starting off with a really good softsynth concept and then add some graphics :)

i like it a lot, calm dim and classic.
tnx 4 final!!! your intro roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!
It's uhm.. nice. but.. Not sure. Something is missing.
I hope to see a sequel soon :)
final doesn't work :/ (gf4mx win2k)
screenshot looks nice though...
screenshot looks nice though...
It's refreshing to see a 4k intro that's not just bad techno music and object rotations.
(and if it were a demo and not a 4k intro, I'd still love it)

one of the best 4k ever, clouds and shadows are impressive
great graphics, a must-seen
Hmmm :)
Amazing...i am shocked.
great stuff!
Uh, whoa.
i only got a black screen :/ but looks stunning from the screenshots
wow
*gasp* - this is amazing
Ueberhammer!!!
Great, beautiful... "Marsdemo 2003" *g*
Great, beautiful... "Marsdemo 2003" *g*
ubelievable.
WOW! I just saw it on nectarine tv, and i thought its very good, but the music sucks. But now i realized it's only 4K!!!!!!!!!
I cant believe this! :D
I cant believe this! :D
impressive!
Great stuff.
A little bit slow here, but well... nice slideshow :)))
It's nice 'n' all that, but MIDI music in a 4K isn't kosher in my mind.
very enjoyable in 4k!
no words... WOW
jesus christ thom, how can you diss this?
/me pats his copy of Texturing & Modeling: A Procedural Approach. Lovely.
:O
wtf ? where is my thumb here ?
one of bestest 4kb ever made
this really is impressive

Nice code, but it's boring as hell, has no sync and sounds bad.
sorry
Very nice!
nice slideshow :)
like it! nice atmosphere and starting slowly (-:
Moody landscapes, nice!
hail!
magnifique.
thought it was kinda lame in the beginning, but then it picked up and i was floored.
I like the music but i would have put a bass line in the music (or is my system wich fucks up everything?) :\
Nice production anyway!
Nice production anyway!
Thumb up to my 4K love.
Cool cloud generation. It goes on a bit long, but the technology is impressive.
Excellent 4k work!
Nice landscapes! :)
Look great, especially when the camera starts moving. Music is decent sounds a bit plain though...
The bestestest landscape so far!
rocks!
uh!
excellent (apart from the abismal music)
wonderful... 4k!
OMFG!
The terrain doesn't look that great today :D Needs more noise :P
This was great. I remember people were like "Cool, nice landscape renderer..." then the camera started moving...
Wow! (Ok, now I have the computer to enjoy these oldies after so many years and so now I can come here and vote for these :)
o, I forgot to thumb this one up!
me too!
o_o wow !
Great.
Cool
that one's nice ...
wish you were here
looks good...but way too boring...!
Stunning!
really beautiful.
it works well andfast on my pc, and i love it. but it works only if i copy executable to c: drive. from any other it fails :-( such things should be written in readme.txt too
Way ahead of it's time...
Screenshot has nothing to do with the intro
lemmus: COM-droppers occasionally end up executing a different intro than the one you run. I guess that is what happened in your case.
Such a shame that this incidence should result in a thumb down for this beautiful piece of art...

And here is my thumb. I am surprised I didn't thumb this classic up long ago.
so am I.
DAMN, DAMN, DAMN
I extracted it to a fresh directory and was now able to see this incredible piece of art.
Oh-no, how could I thumb this down?
I am pretty sure that I had not seen what I saw yesterday before.
I have never had problems with com-droppers before - and as I was not the only one commenting on the screen shot it did not occur to me that something went wrong in my end.
Can't believe that this is five years old. Way ahead of its time. I like the progreesion, from stills to moving clouds to camera movements. Perhaps the introduction of the moving camera was a bit too dull. And the midi-music... Well... Given the age of this and the huge amount of content, I guess it is okay. Fits the intro nicely, in all cases.

i still recall how shocked i was when i saw it 4 the 1st time....
utterly brilliant rendering. Nice surprise when it moves.

10 thumb up !!!

I liked the way you made it look like it was a slideshow at first. :-)

not bad at all
remember seeing this at breakpoint, blew the whole party away ..
HELP!
This used to run perfectly fine on my machine (Dualcore, gf8600GTS, XP), but for some odd reason I can't get it started now...just a short black screen and then I'm back on my desktop :-(
Any suggestions? Does it have something to do with SP3?
