What are YOU on about? This conversion takes the C64 by the ears and swings it around considerably. They managed to avoid technical limitations of a machine numeours times more limited and slow than a 386DX-40, and you complain about bad-looking pixel stuff?
Sheesh. =)
Sheesh. =)
Yeah, really, this is 1Mhz compared with around 33Mhz for a '93 PC. Don't expect miracles :).
I think I was most impressed with the soundtrack. KB did an excellent job with the 3 channels he had (and don't forget the digital voice samples!).

Yeah,. it's good for what C64 can do. I just wanted to say that it is not my favoritest, it's good conversion but there are more favorite C64 demo out there for me..
smash designs are enthousiasts. they proofed what they wanted - that 2nd reality can be done even on ZX Spectrum. I don't wonder next time if they will convert Sleepless onto intel 8096 :-|
Awesome!
this is truly awesome, especially the conversion of skaven's part of the second reality-music. impressive.
just voting for a milestone :)
Demo-conversion of this old famous demo by our legend of future crew. Really impressive work, converting a pc/486-demo into a c64-demo. Recreating those effects must have been hard, also when the system is limited. And to see that last famous 3d-sequence running on a c64 is just amazing =)
And kb did a great job with the music as usual =) Never thought I was going to hear such nice sounds coming out of a sid, those filter-sweeps are really nice (which doesn't get played if you're emulating the music in sidplay =( listen to the real thing! =) ) And the skaven-endtext-song-remix is well just cool =)

Yeah, great one. One day I will convert it to the Oric !
this one rules, kb did a great cover on purple motion's original tune from the pc-version of this demo.
Wow..this conversion is really great....hell...c64 guys rock....OK,watch it and get crazy.
Better than the original.
quite nice, but I didn't like the original THAT much so this wasn't that much better...
the music was great though
the music was great though
of course it was interesting to see how was it converted - really good job on that.
and thats about it. technically, i think there have been more impressive demos... artistically - i dont like original much and thus conversion even doesnt carry the historical value original got.

haven't I vote dat?
hell yeah
I saw it in pc emulator, it´s LA POYA!!!
Respect!
thumbs up!
oh yes, better than the original!
What I saw emulated in VICE was really impressive, now how do I get the rest of it to play? It only got up to where PM's music should start, then it died. I must be doing something wrong.
one of the most hated demo in c64scene.
Perfection in C-64.GET IT NOW!!
gheh
This one's worth watching in an emulator (which I did :)).
zafos: if you think this is perfection on c64, then you obviously dont know shit, buddy.
Rulez, must say. I can understand that the C64 dudes hate this, but I guess most PC sceners love it like me =)
meisa likes.
rocks. kb has done a very good job converting the music for c64.
i managed to get this to run on an emu on a dx50! --> i remember when this came out was fantastic to see; such a nice concept on c64 :)
holy crap
where's that thumb go? there should be one here.
.. forgot I commented already. I'm on crack..
Anyway, I keep the soundtrack around for winamp. Nice :)

They r0mb :)
This doesnt deserve the #1 spot in the pouet c64 top10 ...
there are far better c64 demos...
and i dont care whether this is a conversion
or whatever.. It doesnt deserve that spot ..
this is really just "second triag-elity" by
smash designs, and therefore nothing
special imho

okay, the design isn't somewhat fixed, but
it is in fact technically great and a great cover anyway.
it is in fact technically great and a great cover anyway.
not a very creative idea, but very impressive!
i think conversions like this one are quite cool. However, i think this could have been done better in some of the parts. But the music is very well connverted imho although i don't hear the samples on my old c128.
i guess it would've been a bit cooler if this had been released around the same time as the pc version.
Anyway, it's not that much compared to the best c64 demos, but it doesn't sucks either. Smash DS have done better demos than this too.
And Hollowman has done much better demos than this hehe :)

Simply rocks
I am not familiar with the c64 scene but this is simply fantastic.
This demo has sparked my interest in c64 demos (and probably that of many others). Perhaps the c64 scene should be thankful for that?
In any case, it's very cleverly done. (especially kb with the music - extremely accurate for the most part). I also really loved the BIOS/DOS simulation. Nice. :D

I simply love it !!!
you think of the sceners who made it as of pc sceners but in fact at least back then it was made by c64 sceners
impressive!
100% pure code porno
just for completeness
Oh well, thumb up at last.
Even tho it is very cool to see a conversion of the greatest pc demo of all (at it's time...) on my favourite platform, I think SD could have done better on a lot of parts. great covered tune by kb tho...
2 bad they left the scene :(
2 bad they left the scene :(
Very nice.
It didn't run in vice here :(
A very impressive port
awesome
There are better demos from Smash, thumbs up for the elite conversion.
I lke this more than the original :)
so amazing...
This is one hell of a conversion. Just wish my XM1541 wasn't missing :(

The last few days i dried to make my N-Gage with e32frodo(C64 emulator) run some .d64 files.
And it was ok with all .d64 files but i am not able to run when i have 2 disks.
And i am curious to see how it works
I have seen zecond reality but not the original one

Correction....i tried not dried!!!!LOL
this wipes future crews ass !!!
I love the plasma :)
Great music!
Great music!
Average demo, make this on PC with more colours and in better resolution and it would be good.
The really interesting part was the 4k intro. :)

kebby is my mother fucking hero.
wo is'n mein comment hin?
Where's mine too?
Great entertainment
Respect.
I haven't commented on this yet? Brilliant conversion, especially the music.
One of the best demos for commodore. Really brilliant demo and mindblowing music. It's exciting even if you watch it for the 50th time :P
i really enjoyed this one.. great music!
oh did i say 'THIS IS REALLY KICKASS ! WOOHOO !!!!!' ?
cute
/me says 'good!'
(i've never been a great fan of original sr)
(i've never been a great fan of original sr)
where's my thumb ?
excellent..
SMASH DESIGN ARE GENIOUS
Good demo.
Yes yes yes!
shit, still no comment from me? this demo fuckin' rules. all hail kb etc.
wtf, no comment from me either..
i remember the crowd of ppl that gathered around a c64 at wired98 to watch this on a tiny monitor in one of the first rows :)

while sitting at the aroutada 8 demoshow:
winden^ntw: hey great, this looks the same as the c64 one!
ryan^ctl: ?!?!??!
winden: you know... never had a pc...
I showed this demo on Technology Channel (Turkish TV channel) right after the original PC demo by future crew. They both rule!!!
Nice conversion. Featuring some of the typical AEG-sloppiness concerning transition bugs and missing final touch-ups, and he seemed to lose interest in accurate effect conversion towards the demo's end (see the "voxel" landscape which is an utter laugh). And some of the effects could be done better, but surely this demo was considered an instant winner by its makers while creating it, no matter its quality. The musical score's port is amazing.
awesome demo. some things could have been a little more efficient.. but the music and general success for its time, are to die for.
I know the music was ported well, but i couldnt get it running at all. So, ill just say it rules. I HAVE seen the port running somewhere else before.
i liked it! great job
Very good.
very great! loved it! :D
we create a DVD that contains this demo.

Kickarse conversion, especially the music.
Some good stuff, in general nothing mindblowing; everything has been done better somewhere else. Piggie for lack of innovation, One-Der should have won the compo instead.
@radiantx: Everything has been done before? You are kidding right? This demo is a convertion. Of course everything has been done before except converting a good PC demo to C64 with the same quality and speed.
superb
Skate: he said: "done better," and that's pretty true. He referred to other C64 productions with similar effects i guess. But still this demo has my thumb up because it's a good conversion.
so damn cool!!
I never thumbed this up? weird?
I AM GAY FOR SECOND REALITY!
I AM GAY FOR SECOND REALITY!
supercoolness
For the pc freaks: c64 sceners doesnt likes this demo, back in the time we have seen all those effects before this in better quality. So this one getting all the hype coz it managed to gather lousy coded stuff in a "demo cover" made most of the 64ers just angry. On CSDB where really the c64 scene's opinion counts this one is listed as #72.
Skate: Not the same speed, esp. not the same quality :)
Impressive conversion :)
This was so great at TP97, when the C64 compo started the other 2 halls were still filled with people doing their thing (or watching the compo on the smaller bigscreens from there). But when this demo started everyone ran off to hall 1 to enjoy the show :-)
no comment on this yet??? it rules!! although the graphics sometimes seem a bit too greyish..
Teh maximal rulesesness.
Oh yeah!
@oswald: really true mr. 'i know everything best', aren't you pissed about that this demo was placed first and the coma resource demo only second?
it is listed as #72 because some brainless idiots like seven and puterman voted this with 3 and 5 at csdb. woohooo. they must be very talented.
lousy coded stuff? man i never ever heard such a bullshit. everybody can live with negative comments but your 'aeg bashing' here and at
#c-64 is only one thing. Disconcerting.
And please don't talk for the whole c-64 family, mkay?

@Fzool: Puterman rules, and even if he didn't he would still have the right to have his own opinion.
I like this demo, primarily because of the music (which on its own would be enough to merit a thumb up from me, great covers) and the sick, perverted pleasure I get from using ms dos commands on my c128d. Mmmm... Shame about the graphics though.

rulez!
Oswald does the flaming, FZool does the hyping - in the end, all sums up ;) Calling puterman and 7 "brainless" shows quite some affection.
I agree that some coding was a bit disappointing (tunnel, voxel, rotzoom, animation). Some of the gfx, too.
Still, the demo has cool parts (another way to scroll, interference), fantastic music and a great feeling. Also, you need to have such an idea and make it to the end with it. So it's a definitive thumb up for me.

some nice routines but the design sucks
great stuff
Cool conversion, thumb up!
An ok conversion. Still just a conversion, and not particularly impressive at that. Incredible that this could beat One-Der in the compo.
An excellent conversion! Watching those efx on the C=64 was a pleasure (and a surprise).
radiantx: but you are right. I was a little bit surprised, if I could say that, that a -conversion- won the compo.

Love it! Probably not perfect, but very close. I also love the soundtrack by KB, especially the end part.
Cool!
I liked also 4k demo!
I liked also 4k demo!
good stuff!
<o>
oh yeah!
I kinda like it, it's amazing that a conversion could be better in some terms than the original.
As for the PC version: Visuals are okayish, but the sound is really cool.
Blew me away the first time I saw it, but less so at later viewings. Still a thumb because of KB's work on the soundtrack, which still stands for me as a landmark in the Commie scene.
Amazing C64 piece of code...
UAK - Unstoppable Ass Kicker.
Very good convertion :)
Love it
Love it too! I was so amazed the first time I saw it back in the days!
Thumb up for the music! For me, better than the original.
EBM on a C64: respect to KB.
EBM on a C64: respect to KB.
absolut brilliant..
thumb for kebby's brilliant music. the demo itself is ok, I liked it when I first saw it. some parts could have been converted better but it's still a nice demo!
this remake is amazing...
Yessir
yah
rules.
:)
yup
- recycled shit
- lame trackloading animation
- music conversion is okay
- smash designs

^^^ get real. This is awesome.
This is awesome!
2 [HamsTeR]: no .. i'm already unreal :) you should check out triage demos and then figure out where the "effects" came from :)
especially oneder should have won because it was in the same compo :P
Great demo from very talented people. PC sucks anyway. :)
Very Great COding !
Big Respect to
Smash Design !!
Big Respect to
Smash Design !!
@unseen: you are funny in any way.
Very cool. I still remember the 500+ people going wild at the party when this one was shown.
Excelent demo! And what to say about the music? A Masterpiece in it's own!
i hate second reality...but on the c64 it rocks.
thumb up
A decent conversion, but overrated.
really bad on the eyes and ears, but god bless commodore
What c0c00n said
I was there. I was gazed. Totally rules!
Very nice!
hell yes
pure love!
Great Demo love it. Love the music too :)
the real love is strong in this one
massive
madness
!
Nice remake
Love the original, love this conversion!
Watched this at TG98 together with a friend, going BANANAS in front of the bigscreen. Meeeemories :) Of course, this one kicks ass!
Impressive version. Remember being so impressed first time I viewed it.
Watching it over and over...
<3
.
hm, no comment yet? kickass!!
@aricz
I saw this for the first time at TG98 as well, total jaw dropper. :)
I saw this for the first time at TG98 as well, total jaw dropper. :)
I remember it blasted audience at The Party 7, I never seen this again in any demoparty, 3000 people shooting at same time :D
OMG that is amazing!
I always knew c64 coders are mad, and i love them so... I feel ashamed to thumb this one so late.

:)
i didn't thumb this yet? wtf.
!!!
it is teh rule.
what las said!
Same feeling than baah
I hope Amstrad CPC will have its conversion one day, too
good conversion
While a C64 is over an order of magnitude weaker than the PC hardware intended for Second Reality, this demo is most certainly not an order of magnitude worse.
Seconding the CPC conversion call. Batman Group to the rescue? :P
Seconding the CPC conversion call. Batman Group to the rescue? :P
COOL!
Great!
Nice. :)
I like original version, is one of first nice demos on PC, but this C64 version is superb! My congratulations for creators, C64 demo scene rocks!
Rulez!
Doesn't work in C64+JiffyDOS+SD2IEC
Stuck on "select SID...." text
Stuck on "select SID...." text
Thumbing down a demo just because it doesn't run on SD2IEC is rather silly: "sd2iec cannot emulate a complete 1541 since this would imply emulating a whole 6502 processor, several additional circuits, and the floppy's mechanism."
If you want to watch multiload demos on a real C64, use a 1541U/1541U2 (which does emulate a complete 1541) or an actual diskdrive.

amazing tribute!
Well a novel attempt for sure. The soundtrack is a nice enough transliteration, but other than that I can't amass much more than the novelty factor, which wears out pretty quickly.
DEMO GOOD, VERY GOOD ADAPTATION !!!!
Great coding!
Mostly for the great soundtrack, converted flawlessly to SID. Also the demo itself is quite decent as a conversion.
A very good implementation from the PC original on the C64. Rulez!
oh, I didn't thumb this yet? Shame on me :)
Forgotten thumb. As incredible as it may seem, the music is better than the original. Maybe because I think an actual synthesizer chip does more justice to the songs than a dumb PCM sample playback engine.
None of the other Second Reality remakes come close to kb's SID version. Some of them are outright wrong with even mis-heard/copied melody notes. (how is it even possible to do that when all the original notes are available in S3M format, doh!)

amazing remake + long forgotten thumb.
Ok, so I see I already commented this twice - surely a sign of emotion? It's gonna get its thumb at last, for the music. And the demo is fine too. Now go and watch Edge of Disgrace or Coma Light 13! :-)
now i've seen everything
Impressive!
Nice.
I'm impressed every time watching this.
massive work, impressive demake!
Impressive.
Classic!
great conversion
impressive!
great work, especially on the soundtrack
impressive
I’ll never forget watching this on a PC with a Gravis Ultrasound even in the 90s. This version is a great tribute and deserves a place of honor.
Love it!

Demo Conversions rules! From the time I have seen this, there were several times I was just imagining how can we do it on Amstrad CPC. (I am interested working for Amstrad CPC Second Reality in the future very much..)
Although it's not that favorite of mine. Some of the effects use blocky pixels and they use them ugly and I don't like it..
Some of the parts are not as good converted as I wanted.
But still a hard and cool work to do such a thing!
