486 is pushing the "oldskool" limits a bit, but, it definitely has the right spirit. runs fine in dosbox. now we wait for byterapers by renaissance. :)
Byterapers? Dos??? 486???????
SHIT! I must watch this. NOW.

a one big mess with some nice parts
y
got some nice parts, now let's hope renaissance will do a demo called 'byterapers' :P (remember the komplex/doomsday thing?)
overally messy feeling and some horrible parts ruin this.
Some things made worse than in the past (water is bad, bump mapping is a bit ugly, tunnel is ok, voxel is ok) but at least there is a lot of things to see and the music is great. Inspires me to bring back my old 386 and try coding something there =)
awesome music with some neat effects. other parts so-so, and the overall feeling is of a traditional effect show. Not sure if that was intended or not. Serves it's purpose anyways.

In my opinion, there really should be MIDSCHOOL compo. It could contain 486, 68060 and maybe other platforms which use software rendering.
486 is bit overkill for oldskool. And main compo is bit out of 68060 Amigas league nowadays, unless you are TBL. No wonder there aren't any AGA demos anymore at Assembly. And that's the most common demo platform on Amiga.
BTW. it also says that "PCs up to PC/386 (e.g. 80386/33MHz)" in oldskool compo rules... but then on the other hand it has date defined.

yey for midschool!!!
I definitely liked this on the stream.
Mikron: shaddupidotoogrumblegrumblegrumble
Loved it but... how can I get it running on DOSBox? Mine keeps crashing (0.72 tried both normal and dynamic cores).
ehh.. i don't really like it.
Some nice stuff and epic in a good way. The non-Amiga chick picture and some other scenes were pretty bad, though.
dos.
My favourite from the compo - great oldschool vibe!
Had to smile at the Larry Laffer part- and the music is just AWESOME! Since I can't get it to run here at home would anybody be so kind and post some mp3-link???

Let me bitch a little about relentless self-voting, decade-old effects that they didn't bother making look good or interesting and pixel bitches with commodore tattoos (lulz).
So, it's not really bad or anything, but _maybe_ a fresh style and some new formulars (in the truest sense of the word) are urgently needed.. =)

I can't see it now, but it's amazing to have new DOS demo in 2008 and in memory of Renaissance and nice effects as I can see from screenshots! I will defenitly go tomorrow to my P166 and watch this demo!
Boinc Ball and Girl sticking a competition pro up her ass = "our demo sucks, but AAAAAAAMIIIIGAAAAAA".
In other words, technically and designwise it sucks, if it wasn't for the picture this demo would have gone unnoticed.

I liked it. Been waiting for "oldskool" PEZE stuff for a while now. But 286/386 VGA would have been more oldskoolish. So Im not sure it deserved to win. But nice stuff...hope to see more in the future :)
Well at least there were effects.. but these guys could do a lot better. Weak thumb up.
What tomaes said. The DOS aspect is all fine and dandy, but to be honest, I would've enjoyed this a lot more if it hadn't been a mishmash of things.
It lacks ABBA samples
greetings to visy!
Mixed feelings here... some nice parts but then again it looks like a hasty mashup of old 90's routines. And that (B) legacy stuff is the worst sort of nostalgy in a long time :P
oh, and it doesn't work on my PC (P166, GUS+SB, 48MB RAM) :( Crashes at the loader, I tryied everything but nothing helps. When fix will be out?
oldschool style at its best!
Ran fine on my Pentium 3 under DOS :)
I don't know what version you guys use but the one I donwloaded from scene.org says "Exit to Error: Dyncore: Illegal option in opcode 0xff"
It doesn't matter what options I use, I even switched off emulation of sound.
I use Dosbox 0.72.
And probably the same problem with my real computer.

sorry, 32MB is fixing it under DosBox, and also I remeber that on my old comp SB is indeed on 240:)
The demo is nice, but has many graphical artifacts under dosbox and effects are old. Humor was nice:)

Good
Just have to ask again: mp3, please???
Great stuff! Runs fine in DOSBox here. Yeah oldschool stuff, this was a great revisit.
Bera thumbed his own production up, can somebody please thumb it down to compensate... Didn't see it before now.
Any chance of a video? :)
nice msdos demo ;)
DOS is still alive ! :)
And the zoomer rulez ...

Enough about the hardware, but the demo is a mishmash - there's no grip. What's up with the music...
some of the effects were quite ok..
I like it.
Simply: No. This one sucks. Those messy C64 lookalikes ... the worse Amiga feeling... On a 468 HW... and so on....
Coding might be good but the theme is fully wrong... yikes

great demo, but with absolutely not fitting music
The music didn't really fit to the demo and what's wrong with tracker format music? First tunnel effect was nice but the rest was pretty uninteresting.
Thumbs up for oldskool Technicolor graphics and CINEMATIC soundtrack. We need more oldskool demos with majestic music like this!
presentation font and music,
colorfull tunnel effect,
overlay of wave ripples,
fire effect,
water effect,
beautifull girl with joystick and Amiga ball,
caramel pig emboss effect, with light bumps shadowing,
Leisure Suit Larry 3D,
heightfield,
3 vertical rubber bands,
girl's back picture,
credits with moving texture patterns in the background,
"BR" logotype, 3D rotating, chrome textured 3Ds in the
background,
end words music and font, scrolling upwards, nice meta raster rolls

EPIC. Compare this to masterpieces of early 90ies, made for similar hardware - they get nowhere near this.
great
Fantastic music. I see no reason not to like this :)
PM's soundtrack is already enough of a reason to thumb this up.
hmm, i don't recall seeing this before.
(ok, i censored myself realizing that this is 486. still...)
i guess retro compo deserves retro code :)
direction is great, btw.

Sorry guys, I can't thumb this up because it dwells in nostalgia too much.
And blabla: What the hell is a "retro compo"? Things like modern 8-bit demos seldom have anything to do with "retro".

@viznut: well, it's still blala (i cannot underestimate the number of people not able to read...), and well, "retro" is relative. But huhh, i'm drunk, i read 2008 automatically as 1998, and supposed it was some kind of 486 compo back then... Well, as of 2008, i can say that the code sucks donkey balls :))
worth the thumb up!
worth the thumb up!
I was not impressed.
Excellent stuff! 08 they accepted 486 in oldskool compo? Or did i miss something?
ah, missed the hardware bitching earlier.

Nice one, but I prefered the Amiga demos more in the compo.
Enough with the pixels! :D
this prod rulez
Nice demo that brings hope even to those cassette lamers!
Some parts are very ugly (that emboss pig) but others are supercool (leisure suit Larry in 3D).

YES! Totaly missed this one, nice demo!
Is okay, though some of the gfx are obviously "loaned" (e.g. Larry part) and possibly the end scroller font (I think a very similar font was used in Epic Pinball), though the latter may be from some PD source?
Btw, was that soundtrack ever released as a proper HQ/stereo mix? :D
nifty
some nice parts in there, enough for a thumb up!
thumb for platform, nice stuff in there ..
Works great on my 486/100 with 32MB RAM

Can confirm
I forgot a thumb :(
pretty good for 486
some nice parts
really disliking the joystick pic.
the soundtrack is really good.

Quite uneven quality. Some really nice parts and some not so nice ones. I don't really like the music either.
