I usually refrain from giving thumbs down, since I tend to go by the "I you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"-philosophy.

Considering that MFX has done some really great stuff in the past, I just don't get they should be going in this direction.'

Generally I don't like noise demos, this is no exception.

for me it is - sucked hell on the stream - but there was one effect I loved - so you got my thumb.

It started out really nice but got really dull from there. I'll probably need to rewatch it to give a proper opinion on it, but I sort of lean towards "mmmnnghnjnjrt"

Ok, not the usual stuff from MFX, noise is also not my cup of tea (although it is interesting for some reasons) but somehow as tired as I was in the compo because of non sleep, it really much my state, it was hypnotic, I was sucked into something, I think the noise had some patterns of talk in it or maybe I hallucinated because of it, and then it has a nice surprise ending (reminds me of chimera).

I inexplicably loved this. It connected with me to the point where I can now hate most other noise demos with an open heart, because I know that those demos are trying to reach the level of this, and utterly failing.

i liked the first part, the middle was not sot interesting, and i think the end was good again. I have no hardware and video is pretty much meaningless here, so I must rely on my memories :)

In contrast to many other demos from the same compo I wasn't bored for a second.

Perfect for absorbing the visuals and sound and then letting your mind wander and see what comes out of this. Me really likes.

I like uncle-x but I hate noise demos... if it's required to get the audience boozed up or drugged to watch a demo, it's not for me. And I happen to think that there are musicians out there worth to try out...

What the hell is this? I tried to not fall asleep during the compo, and even tried to cross my eyes because I figured that then I would see some "magic eye" pictures. But I only saw grey noise.

my honest review:

This demo (amongst few others) is why my faith in the demoscene gets stronger. It is clear that mfx wants to break the boundaries of aesthetics with this opera of computer generated noise. And they use everything in their arsenal to achieve a trully haunting experience.

The king is fully clothed. A demo I will be revisiting with envy.

What a fantastic piece of art this is. The bad reviews are only natural...people are used to the conventional language of 3d, textures, lighting, and easily recognizable ambients. This goes beyond...far beyond that. Mfx superb work, keep them coming! Greets

I was told that after I'd watched this, I'd understand what the 'true inner beauty' in demos is. Apparently I didn't, because it made me feel that whoever made this must have spent his/her childhood hiding in the cupboard avoiding not to get beaten up by his/her dad. There is something morbid here, but the beauty is missing - sorry.

I'll admit when I first saw this, I was disappointed, partially because most of the BP08 demos were less than expected, and partially because MFX are favourites of mine, and this looked like a rehash of Cannapaceus.

But giving both this and its brother-/sister-demo a second chance made them both grow on me. Good stuff, and I'm always happy to see someone try something new. Trippy and exciting.

As an aside: I find it ridiculous that people comment on how "inappropriate" the demo was for the compo. If it ruined your buzz or whatever, sit at home and drink beer instead. I really don´t see how your hippie happy go lucky attitude to parties should come before people trying to present a creative work of art. Whether you like it or not, you should at least have the wits to respect it.

I think this prod works as piece of art, it's interesting and nice to watch. But it doesn't work as a demo. The problem is, probably, demoscene != art

The demoscene has a lot in common with hiphop. They are both competitive by nature (battling), and skills are an essential part of this. As such, the scene is a sort of sport. But it is obviously in the realm of aesthetics, which is a lot more difficult to quantify , or rate, if you like. I don't know where this prod would be because I have no idea what kind of technical effort went into it beyond what Nosfe(?) commented somewhere. To demand that every demo has the same focus on technical aspects and demanding they all have the same type of aesthetic seems equally misguided to me. I think this is approximating art, if nothing else because it ventures well outside of the norm of scene aesthetics. Why would one want to narrow the scene down to standard formulas? Either way you look at it, a failed, or less than successful, experiment is more valuable than a rehash.

A very atmospheric demo : you get totally sucked into a world of crap and lousy artistic vision. So shit it instantly added value to the competition at the party.

Not really as profound or meaningful as cannapaceus, but fantastic still. I think the visuals here actually are better for the most part, but there doesn't seem to be too much of an underlying idea, or maybe I just can't find it. The soundtrack isn't as cohesive either as on canna, which might be a reason why the concept doesn't work here as well as on the first incarnation. In any case, I'd revert the direction of my thumb if I could.
