this demo was suggested for mekka 02
but it was NOT delivered to party according to agreement

after 4 years i wanted to participate
on decent demo party and had created
on 1 month vj tour around europe
this piece under extremely hard
conditions
(almost non-stop in bus or in dirty
clubs)

all i wanted to know is the global opinion
of scene culture of this "edge"
demo piece in the competition of
cool "mainstream" demo productions...

enjoy

Generally speaking I'm not really into this style of demo, but even for me this production didn't suck.
Another *very* strange demo. Maybe I must watch it several times, but actually I prefer 'Incyber'. But in general more interesting than usual 3d flybye demos.

MASSIVE satori production!!!!!!!

I send a "kiss on the noze" to zden.

it roxxxx....

good point you decided not to participate to the mekka democompo, you would have been unselected by the preselectors, they will never be able to apreciate and understand such a masterpiece artwork...

and they already showed it many time by unselectig great works...

anyway, we dont care, we just want our eye candy, so dont stop delivering;)

Maybe my machine is not powerful enough, maybe I'm just jealous that no matter what zden does, and no matter how medicore it is, everybody says how great it is and maybe it's just me who thinks that the statement that this would have been shown at ms is pure hypocrisy (I bet it would have been preselected if a no-name group would have submitted exactly the same kind of demo...).

Anyway, there are still plenty of good satori demos out there (metamorf, incyber, tao, singularity...). Feel free to disagree... :)

true, demo reads midi-in commands, because it's constructed in my vj engine, but you have just replay non-interactive version
some parts were recoreded as 'live' vj sessions
i will try to push things futher this direction in the future

tomaes, i expresses my feelings and code is just a tool, i was in enviroment with no possibility to create more complex visual code, i feel of course ashamed, but message/concept and edge visual exploration are now more fun for me than brilliant empty code, whould be wonderfull to connect these 2 things in the future, respect to hc coders
added on the 2002-04-03 12:09:00 by zden zden
zden, just a thought/question: is the title "de:tox" influenced by the track "detox" by strapping young lad? If, yes, well, that's also a rich source of inspiration for me. :)

And no, I'm not a good coder myself, I'm also using code for visual experiments/self-expression, nothing too serious though...
added on the 2002-04-03 12:16:25 by tomaes tomaes
tomaes, i don't know strapping young lad, raiden sent me necromedia tune at the end of year 2000 and i started first lines of code for de:tox 1 year ago! i am happy to finish this project, it was very hard for me, even the code seems crap, tune was very structured and i knew i had to creat linear story flow, what is always harder that create one-mood production as b10 or mindfuck

rulez added on the 2002-05-05 21:44:43 by saffron saffron
Interesting demonstration. Which slightly reminds me a bit of one of his previous pieces 'metamorf'. (atleast the audial-experience) ... What I love about this demo is (much like as 'metamorf') is that it's so chaos'ish, drifty. organized low-fidelity chaos. You can't really get a grip of what exactly is happening all the time. Which sets you into some kind of very noise'ish, 'confusing' state... (which ofcourse is meant in a positive way) ...
In comparence with 'b10' for example, which is very 'concrete' so to speak. Where every sound in the demo is visualized with a minimal approach. So I guess it's a matter of taste what you like. Even though, I like both :)
>>> and for tomaes: I don't think it got anything to do with that track. Instead, I think the demonstration is about the "media-noise" in our society.
In my opinion, the name 'de:tox' and the demo itself sort of tells me something like:
"remove-the-media-toxication" or something similar to that. (which is something I strongly agree with... even though I know alot of you just give fuck about that)... All in all it feels like a protest. I might be wrong - but who cares... Art is in the eye of the beholder. Good piece.

rulez added on the 2002-05-13 14:31:18 by Delax Delax
Excellent. As usual with Satori. Actually I didn't find this so special when I first saw it, but it's been getting better with every consecutive viewing.

That facial distortion bit gives me the feeling that there's something trapped inside this demo, trying to get out but failing. Eerie.

only few demos containing so much noise and rubbish can be (so) good and not boring.. detox is one you can get into and just bang your head against monitor as the mighty noisy beat goes down the screen!

rulez added on the 2002-08-06 04:08:31 by raver raver
OK, so I've been busy but I finally managed to check this one out. Well, it's predictably no effects and just noise and art, but it's darned good. In fact, maybe my favorite Satori demo to date, and a contender for the next DemoDVD PC volume.

really weird.

I watched it once and decided to comment it on pouet as shit, but then i watched it again, and the music acually is quite good, and nicely synced with the noisy visuals. It still doesn't deserve a thumb up, because of, well, what the hell is this? It's quite big, so is it really just noisy textures cycling fast on top of eachother, with that one realtime distorted face?

In the end, i give it the pig, it's OK.

Different from your average glitch-fest noise prod, this one actually has some direction. I like how stuff kind of bubbles out of the corruption only to be swallowed up again just as it becomes recognisable. Potent theme of government cover ups, censorship and controlling the message here. Great stuff.
