WTF?

There is nothing in there that looks sufficiently advanced to justify a XBOX360 demo. Also ugly colors and bad flow.

i guess the platform could do MUCH better, but a firstie is a firstie. and actually this one looked good no matter what platform, 'cause h2o knows how to twist the pixels. only the blur was too much, especially on the starwars scroller part.

Maybe the most of you have not recognized, that this demo includes a fully playable Gianna Sisters ...

However we learned our lessons ...
In forthcomming production we dont count on oldschool amiga feelings anymore and try to arrive finally in the years after the amiga styled demos, since we recognized that only a few people get attracted by effects which impressed us so much in the past ...

This is not your and also not my opinion for true, the Giana Idea was the best in this demo. It was excactly that what we wanna see.... So don´t go the "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" Way - Keep on demoing this way how you like it to do - it was brilliant and i hope in the next demo is again a old-skool effect.

Greetz, AMI ;-)

+ massive growing weed (loads of polys, right? :))
+ the logo stuff (weed logo, xbox360, the bugs, etc)
+ giana sisters
- too repetitive (smurf village shown for eternity)
- confilicting styles (techno demo style rotating logo and growing stuff)
- nice to have a single colorscheme, but it doesn't fit with smurf color.. maybe some poisoned smurfs by gargamel?

it's technically not too impressive considering the hardware but it's a first..

overall: piggy. but keep up the good work!

At least one coder of the demo should say something...

I quite agree with all the comments here, good or bad... The demo could have been a lot better but we really wanted to release it for BP, so the final touch to polish it, remove some nasty bugs, make a better sync (even if the XNA sound API is really rubbish.... no good sound control) wasn't possible.

For the people who claims that the 360 can do better ? Yes ! But we use what Microsoft provides and currently it is limited to the embedded .Net compact framework + shaders (quite buggy for the moment, but released this year, look for XNA), so it is far from developping a native 360 demo. By the way, our goal was to code mostly oldskool efect with some nice effects, not to to a Farbrausch demo...

For the people asking for binaries ? A real issue to as IT IS NOT POSSIBLE, to run the demo on the xbox you have to provide the sources... and currently we don't want to... we're really oldskool ;-) We'll see later.

And I hope you liked the little game embedded.... This for sure will be provided later as a standalone version with the source and so on to be able to play it :D 8 levels ready for you !

And we wanted it to be the first real demo on the 360 (not a portage of old demos).. For sure the next 360 demos will be better but ours too :D

So just consider it as : a new beast is there ! Let's code demos on it !

For the first one factor. Keep doing it ;)

the overall design and flow is really slick, only if some parts were shorter (growing trsi, jelly village). especially liked the transitions in the beginning. and some great ideas and crafted small details (bugs, upscroller, shadows on the main layout, background animations at parts). a great demo if you ask me.

and for people bashing this for being too xbox360ish: isn't using a style favoring the underlying platform preserving some consistency to the overall idea here, being amigaish that is?

and h2o talking about changing styles. i really wonder how it's output will be :)
rulez added on the 2007-04-12 13:32:29 by anesthetic anesthetic
I do like it to a certain extent. But really, that Amiga bootscreen did not add anything. Move on to new things. :-) It's not a bad demo but some parts looked way too recycled from your last psp demo (not that I don't like those effects, but, as with the amiga bootscreen, it's time for something new) and some parts are shown way too long so it gets boring. Nice to see first 360demo! :)

shazz, you're jumping to conclusions there... like i said, my thumbdown was aimed at those who claim to be oldskool, and voted this prod above the wamma 4k in the BP compos. so it cannot be aimed at you- you said yourself that wamma deserved more than what they got- and that while your own prod would've been the first to lose a rank because of it. so i definitely do not have any beef with you personally- in fact, your sincerity in this case is something i admire.

TMB, do you really think the platform matters ?
I dont think so, its just to feel a bit of the spirit which has allmost disappeared in the new demos, offcause some exceptions ....

PSP was funny to use, x360 is too ....

@Havok :
Really believe me, nobody wants to have a beef, iam personal to old and i can use my time better, than to get in argue with people on this website.

We all should just enjoy that also the older ones are still doing some productions.

You are basically calling people like us, that have been around more likely since the times, when you still shit in your pants and couldn't event talk, "claim to be oldskoolers" and I can't even find a record about you that pre-dates 1999.. Dont get me wrong.. I dont know you personally and only found your name in the http://www.scene.nl/wiki/index.php/Havocand your picture in http://www.stniccc.com/html/scenemembers/216.htm so it makes me think: Are you really that piece of shit or do you only write here so somebody talks back to you?

Wrong - the "package" deal is just one big blobfile containing all data _AND_ the source, it's just that its much easier to distribute the stuff this way cos its in one big file with all the settings included.
