could this be the first demo featuring texture mapping?

anyway, I guess this is the mother of all cube demos.

I think I remember this demo containg cheesecubes and so on... Am I right?

If that's the case, I liked the music :)

first real texturemapper as far as i know. and no chunky to planar. but 6th frame on a500. anyway, it rulez.

the mother of all cube demos was phantasmagoria by anarchy. no texture mapping, but smoooooth.

I think the cheese cubes were in Mental Hangover by Scoopex. Which itself is one hell of a show! Although i think they cheated they didnt use real texture mapping if i remember.

However this demo roxx. 1991, damn!

well, the music sucks, but the cube with the scroller on it is sooo nice =)

The "cheese-like" cubes in Mental Hangover were stencil-vectors. Cube-O-Matic has "real" cheesecubes.. 8-D But I think Blittermiracle by Rob Rose/Brainstorm was the first demo with texturemapping on amiga, the mapping was really ugly/buggy though...

Cheese.
Slemmy: Blittermiracle was released after Cube-o-matic (app. one month later), which means that Cube-o-Matic might indeed be the first demo with texture mapping on Amiga.

Actually, the release date is 22.09.1991. Not January. Or perhaps all my sources are wrong, in which case plese do provide your proof :) .. Blitter Miracle was released in October as far as I know.

Evil, evil code! Actually I think that Storm was first with texture mapping on Amiga, but this definitely looked a lot better.
rulez added on the 2005-04-21 22:01:07 by Corial Corial
Blittermiracle is a blitterrotating technique a bit like sinusscroll and blitterzoom, but more tricky... It can't make perspective... only parallelograms and only max 90 degrees distort(skew)..
The demo from Storm (Blitterdisaster?) was only the sinus-scroll technique, bllitting vertical lines. It was even more simple, but a good fake.

But Cube-o-matic was the first real texturemapper, drawing pixel by pixel. It was a true chock! It was the impossible thing!!

Helioth/Break/etc: Yeah I remember the situation with Cube-o-Matic very well because Rob and I were working hard on Blitter Miracle at the time. Rob wasn't fully done with the demo yet, and I was still trying to wrap up the song. Rob knew he had something hot in his hands with the effect and wanted to push it further, so he added his best effect at the very end (which unfortunately many have forgotten by now): the texture mapped sphere that allowed you to move some graphics on a sphere by moving your mouse around.

And while he was in the middle working on that effect, Buddha - a good friend of Rob - released "Cube-o-Matic". I remember that Rob was very pissed off, understandably, that someone else released this effect before him. And he also had to acknowledge that Buddha's effect was better, because it was perspective-correct, while Rob's wasn't, as explained earlier. But Rob had leading with the sphere at the end instead. :-)

However, we did know that Buddha had something cooking, and we knew that it would be badass once it's released. Because everyone knew Buddha was an ace coder. So yes, unfortunately our friends in Spreadpoint were faster. :-)

I found it way too long and the music is rather annoying
Slow, but what to say? A polished first in non-iso texture mapping in demos! Sometimes, slow means good and genuine. It can also be a step forward for a platform, in that it can start a competition for bigger+better+faster effects. Obvious thumb from me :)

comment on Photon's post from 2018-06-30. (Hejsan! Hur är läget? Hälsningar till Sverige).

Slow? Why? Can you specify that a bit further? I hope you won't mind that I don't know a better cube [from that time] that is

- consisting of images with 4 bpls and 72x72 px (if I remember correctly)

- having a perspective

- showing color fading of surfaces that are moving away from the viewer

- free of pixel gaps

Technically, it is a tidbit for me, though I have never scrutinized the code (too lazy and too much awe to do so ;-) ).
On the other hand, I heard rumors of a swiftly rotating texture mapped rectangle done by Niclas Thissel on the Atari ST. And I think this was even before Buddha's release. The only thing I know is that he prepared the image beforehand, that is one pixel became one byte in which the bitplane information were lined up; sounds somehow chunky to me.
Does anyone know more about that or have even seen it?

Seeing this now makes me smile. It was me! Thanks for the Tickets. The concert was one of the best in my life! The concert ended with rain and a thunder Storm. It was like Dwayne sent the thunder from heaven to send a sign. Once in a lifetime Moment. Thank you!
