rm, if this is so obviously shitty, why don't you state why. This is what one might call 'constructive criticism'.

ah yeah, same for mrs. uns3en I'm not sure if she realized that this is no desktop demo but a demo for a PocketPC

Atmospheric (and nostalgy) music, nice sinc in some scenes, good effects. Well, it's all about video. Where is the application (or Win port)?
rulez added on the 2005-12-29 22:57:59 by Manwe Manwe
sure! the effects are too long and pretty ugly, the music's garbage, and some design would definitely not have hurt! how's that for constructive!
i think the point should be more like "why do you guys feel so goddamn pissed off just because someone did NOT give a detailed explanation with his thumb down".. *cough* *cough*

Because maybe we want to have a slight chance to do it better next time? Also, a little bit more objectivity would be advisable. But anyway it's his personal opinion and I accept it.

I wonder how the scene in the screenshot and the fd-voxel scene is done... is it realtime raytracing?
rulez added on the 2005-12-30 00:04:23 by Lupin Lupin
Lupin: Yes it's both brute force raytracing with grid subdividing, although I have to admit that the scene from the screenshot will not run that fast on a 206Mhz ARM CPU :( (but the 6dof voxel is pretty fast)

Coder Porn. Also, I really HATE that releases with missing binaries are allowed in the compos (which also applies to the MattCurrent demo for S60).

added on the 2006-01-02 14:09:22 by Gargaj Gargaj
pailes: ok, the 'classic' raytracing scenes are brute forced with a little 4x4 or 8x8 subdivision grid, but what about the 6dof voxel ? it's awesome for some fixed point code.

The flow of retroficial is good though the no design and no gfx. With better textures/colors ( the plasma/grid texture is better than a xor pattern, but still :p ) and a thinner font it'd rock.

The win32 port will be available soon, as we're still working on the design, and on the gfx :) the binaries for the pocketPC version will be released soon as well. Wait a bit guys :) it'll be released today, or if it's not, it'll be before friday for sure. At least, i hope so.

added on the 2006-01-02 15:03:55 by Gargaj Gargaj
Gargaj, is right I'll release the binaries this night. @p01: I'll agree it could have been more well designed with better textures, I've put this one together in 1 week before the party and actually it's my first attempt at a serious "demo". Next time more design and gfx I promise =)

Finally want to watch that one on the _real_ thing (no! Not on c64 this time...but on my pocketPC of course...! ;-) )

rulez added on the 2006-01-03 15:02:03 by Gargaj Gargaj
Well, I rewatched the demo and damn, it's still boring as hell. And who cares how the voxels are coded, it's still a voxellandscape looking like every other voxellandscape for the past 10 years. Whooptidoo... But then again, I've apparently got no clue about coding, so who am I to judge demos :(
added on the 2006-01-03 15:49:53 by britelite britelite
i have watched the final on pocketpc now and it looks better

britelite, but atleast you are an expert on the subject of demos with effects that have been seen for the past 10 years
rulez added on the 2006-01-03 16:08:08 by hollowman hollowman
Simple effects but the demo is enjoyable.
rulez added on the 2006-01-03 16:12:57 by hitchhikr hitchhikr
Dear britelite, show me 3 demos from the past 10 years with 6dof voxels... Do you actually understand what 6dof means?
added on the 2006-01-03 16:13:59 by pailes_ pailes_
Dear pailes, no I won't. But when you do something intresting with your voxels I'll be happy to thumb them up several times.
added on the 2006-01-03 16:19:36 by britelite britelite
And to make it clear, the thumbdown was maybe a bit harsh, but the demo was just way too boring no matter how good code it has.
added on the 2006-01-03 16:23:42 by britelite britelite
paska mikä paska
who gives a fuck about the effects, the demo itself is a boring piece of crap
the titan style of getting mad at people who don't like your prods is so funny :)
I started thinking about this demo before I joined titan a few weeks ago. In fact, I don't care about titan when it comes to this demo, because it's entirely made by myself except for the music and the new logo. Rm, you guys should learn how to make Mac demos which run on every Mac. How's about that? Moreover, code matters very much IMO. The demo scene has evolved out of coding passion and it was not invented by guys with fancy ideas and fancy design tools. If code doesn't matter anymore, why don't we all switch to Final Cut Studio and stop coding at all? You seemed to miss the point.
added on the 2006-01-03 16:47:39 by pailes_ pailes_
okay maybe i was too harsh, its your first pocketpc demo, this clearly deserves just piggie, no thumb down. keep coding
added on the 2006-01-03 16:50:07 by uns3en_ uns3en_
well, at least i don't go fuckin' nuts when someone doesn't like prods i've been involved in :) and for the record, i'm almost 100% sure that jumalauta's mac demos work on most os x macs. do your pocketpc demos work on every pocketpc device?

and indeed, the demoscene is also about code. my prods aren't, i'm very open about the fact that all of them are rubbish :) but i'm sure we agree that design is of great importance these days, and well, i'm not a coder, and i don't give a fuck about just watching effects on a VERY POWERFUL DEVICE. FUCKING VOXELS! WHO GIVES A SHIT
Who goes nuts? I just state my opinion that's all =) You do so as well, don't you? This discussion is plain fun to me. I could also go ahead and thumb all your prods down instead of replying, because they're not about coding. But I simply don't because I do understand that design does also play an important part. And well, I tested my demo on 4 PocketPCs and it runs well on all of them, but I've got 4 Macs and your demo only runs on one of them.
added on the 2006-01-03 17:02:20 by pailes_ pailes_

britelite: if you don't see why 6dof is indeed "something interresting" with a voxel, then i agree with you. you don't have a clue about coding ;)

Gargaj: *Shhhhhhh* that's embarrassing ;)
added on the 2006-01-03 17:37:29 by pailes_ pailes_
kjosswhatever: I'm not interested in coderporn on any machine faster than 1Mhz, and I still stand by my opinion that the voxellandscape looks like most other voxellandscapes during the past 10 years, even if the voxelROUTINE might be better...
added on the 2006-01-03 17:59:49 by britelite britelite
all, now, SHUT THE FUCK UP :)
added on the 2006-01-03 18:06:23 by uns3en_ uns3en_
It looks different than any other voxel because the fly by starts by looking straight from above. But since you don't know how to code voxels you'll probably don't know that this is not possible with a normal 4dof approach. And one last sentence to rm, 'power' is a very relative term. A 206Mhz pocketpc might be powerful if you want to do faked copperbars, shadebobs and a sidescroller, but it it might not be powerful for other things, have a nice day...

CoaXCable: Sorry, this co-op wasn't really planned. raina supported me with MilkyTracker for a very long time and I came to him with the idea of a mobile demo VERY shortly before TUM so there really was no time at all. Next time we'll do better ;)

Wow! Voxels rules, more voxels in demo and 6dof (I say 6dof 6dof 6dof like exi daugh exi daugh ;), polygons, raytracing, everything cool, resolution ok not ugly, great tune, good design/presentation, and hey PPC has Arm 200Mhz? More than GP32 and less than GP2X, that means such demos could possibly be happening in GP32 or I hope there comes demos for GP2X in the future, why didn't we have there? Deer Blast!
rulez added on the 2006-01-05 19:16:03 by Optimus Optimus
Now we say voxels I'll blog you about Ken Silverman's new voxel stuff. Well,. some oldies recently, but I had seen some really cool 6dofs there ;)

The latest stuff here (old and not so old code releases) http://advsys.net/ken/voxlap/groudraw.zip
And check http://advsys.net/ken/voxlap.htm

I really have to code something like these oneday..

rulez added on the 2006-01-05 19:30:04 by RA RA
Optimus: Can't believe Ken has released all the sources. Now the 6dof-magic is pretty much gone, since everyone can take the source and simply put it in a demo /me cries... Okay at least I did mine a long time ago ;)
added on the 2006-01-05 19:52:51 by pailes_ pailes_
Knowledge is good. Besides, it's not like a 6dof voxel is the most magical effect ever. It was pretty good back in 1996 but..
added on the 2006-01-05 19:59:25 by Preacher Preacher
Preacher, of course you're right, actually it's pretty cool to take a look at the sources. But voxels always had something very attractive to me, can't tell you why, I'm mean nowadays it's all about polygons which is in fact pretty boring, so it's really fresh to see something different like the voxlab demo from Ken. Have a look at it yourself, I guess you'll agree.
added on the 2006-01-05 20:06:45 by pailes_ pailes_
I agree, I find voxels and raytracing plus other ways of rendering(?) preety interesting. Too much polygons today, though I am still hooked finishing my 1st software 3d engine for GP32 and PC, cause I haven't coded something like that before and it's interesting to me :)

PSP port doesn't work on either of my PSP's. Tried with 1.5 and 3.03OE Firmware. After I select the screenmode in the menu, it loads for a second and quits.

what. more ports? damn..who cares to be honest? it is seems like a peniXxx enlragment now

hint : don't press X but O in the display option menu ;-)

Very cool port, really fast code (as it seems the PSP GU is not really used), I love the particles metaballs, the music and simple effects syncs, cool good old voxel, nice ribbon...

That's my fav' PSP demo for sure !

(damn where is the tumb up ??? silly mac ?)

Thanks for the hint. :D Works like a charm. :) Some minor glitches in the twister but nice port! Nice demo for the PSP. Now make a real PSP demo. =)

Stingray: Sorry for choosing X as Exit, it seems that a lot of people have trouble with that as most games use X as select key :S (it has been tested on 1.50 and 3.10OE-A and worked fine on both)

Actually, that's a western thing. All western playstation games use X for confirm and O for cancel, while in Japan they use O for confirm and X for cancel.

I use triangle to confirm and Right-Shoulder to cancel in real life. Fuck PSP =D. Nice soundtrack ;]

A thumb for pailes, a thumb for raina and a thumb for me because I was clever enough to run the demo instead of exiting it!
rulez added on the 2007-03-05 07:08:19 by syphus syphus
irokos will always be the scenes gay. writes a co-op in releases and when he gets thumb ups he deletes names..it was so obvious..lets see how many co-op irokos "arranges" to become famous..ah lets count again:...no need to million co-ops..

CoaXCable
Guy, would you please not thumb down my productions because you have your own private kindergarden war with irokos which I'm not involved in? I ported this to the PSP, because I personally like it multiplatform and there are not a lot of people out there who have a PocketPC to run this on. And it is a co-op because at that time raina was not a Titan member as you might know. So back up a little and maybe think about your childish behaviour which leads you nowhere in life.

One more thing, if you run it, it still says CPH at the very beginning, so stop moaning. In the end you were never proud of this production anyway, weren't you?

pails, guy, i liked your work on pc, sure i did. proud for seeing a nice thinggie, but i dont like spreading the shit as "a bla bla co-op" and or showing/bragging like a goat <not you, i dont know u from ric/real life>

But yeah mate, good job! it was a other thing i did not like..the way of showing this co-op to the public
added on the 2007-03-05 12:15:59 by cxczevik cxczevik
I dont give a flying 'bout naming that prod as a titan only or titan/cph (or maybe cph/titan if you prefer your group at first, coax?), i just removed it because you were NOT STOPPING SPEAKING SHIT ABOUT WHATEVER RELATED TO THAT PROD. Now, stop making yourself some movie from dunno where, i NEVER EVER thought about naming that prod as a coop with CPH to have thumbs up, i mean, WHO CARES ABOUT CPH HERE? and who cares about titan? you're the first not to care about it, so let us in peace, and if you want anyone to re-label that demo as a coop, say it. I removed the cph tag because i was more than fed up to see you blabla'ing, and only because of that. Now, please fuck off, and if you got a problem with someone, including me, go and talk on irc, you know, that thing which allows you to talk real time? -instead of bothering everyone with that lame bullshit you took from nowhere. Thanks in advance, d00d, and happy easter in advance.

It is not a windows demo, it is a PocketPC demo and the Win32-Binary is included so people not having a PocketPC can watch it too.

thumb up for the port, but the demo itself lacks the pace an design. just a set of more or less interesting effects.

Pretty FAAAAST demo for both my pocketpcs,

My 200MHz OMAP850 equipped HTC P4350 ran it fast

My 400MHz PXA263@530MHz equipped PDA2k ran it much faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaster !

Nice demo to watch with my iphoner friends.

My totem demo on pda at the moment. Love the "oldschool adapted" effects - interesting codewise, design is ok with some nice logos - music simple with nice melody.

it's funny how this one, especially the music, has stuck with me through the years. I was really into sw rendering when this came out (with my very outdated home PC) and it was instantly one of my favorites.
