it's just the best.
The only one reason why I moved to PC to make music...
~
TEH tool!
i still like impulse tracker more :)
:)
It helped kill the Amigo scene. :P
Damn, I had so much fun with this program. Too bad it won't run on current machines anymore.
I never liked the interface at all (yeah, I never had amiga either)
quite a huge part of my life was wasted with this .. and i don't regret it. i want a 1to1 windows port! down with all those lame ft2-clones! :(
where it all continued for pc musicians, after st3 :)
again, same as dalezy :) with ft2 i actually had reasons to use pc instead of amiga for tracking.
although i did miss some features from protracker; i'd rather see a windows tracker with all the best pt & ft2 features combined than a 1:1 ft2 port.

Very yummy! :)
Yeah, the classic. Without the software, I think I would have never started making music (it was august 97 I think). :)
the best thing that ever happened!
how could i not thumb this up!... i guess it's the program i spent most time working with. ever.
I'm no musician, but I had some good use for this one.
THE interface. I pretty much have it embedded in my spinal cord by now.
Excellent interface, fond memories of this tool.
Digibooster is better :)
interface rox0r! powertool for dos-trackers! i still love this piece of work...
ft sucks. it rules ;)
ok, thumb up for nibbles...
ok, thumb up for nibbles...
all trackers suck. logic/cubase rules!
teh winner
thumb for FT2, but thumb down for saving the screenshot in JPG
interface == chaos
i hated the interface. i still do. go IT go!
uncle-x, fuck you and your 230958723049809812345 IT keyboard shortcuts!
skrebbel, fuck you and your annoying mouse interface. keyboard shortcuts is the right way (even today)
yay, let's start another it vs. ft2 flamewar. there has only been about 2049786134095617347965314096395 of those.

i *MUST* thumb this up since i'm almost using this 10 years... best software ever!
I think what I truly disliked about the protracker/ft2 mode of operation is the way it had an edit mode and a play mode. (Same problem as with VI) ... I much preferred the mode of operation of ST3/IT where you'd let the track play (in looped mode possibly) and add to the patterns while it advanced.
That and the handy (but obsoleted after) parameter interpolation commands shortcuts.
That and the handy (but obsoleted after) parameter interpolation commands shortcuts.
i must do it
whatever, it was a candy after screamtracker and i made my 1st decent tunes in it
impulse tracker only!
yes this one is ok
FT2 4life, best PC tracker! :)
I love it!
EVERYBODY CHANT!!
EF-TEE-TWO!!
EF-TEE-TWO!!

EF-TEE-TWO!!
This looks too confusing for me
and the award for Best Reason For Thumb Down goes to... stelthz!
IT user who say FT2 sucks because of mouse interface must read again FT2's doc because you can do everything without mouse :)
and of course FT2 is the best tracker ever made on a non-amiga platform :)
and of course FT2 is the best tracker ever made on a non-amiga platform :)
almost 8 years with FT2 :)
Thumbs up for all masterpieces that have been done in XM format by awesome artists out there... If not my cup, FT2 remains a really really great software.
hello ft2.
and thank you for all you've done for me.
and thank you for all you've done for me.
i must have spent about 5 years using this a few hours a day.
<3
EF-TE-KETTO!
EF-TE-KETTO!
EF-TE-KETTO!
the only PC tracker I`ve ever liked.
ft2 :)
pretty, ugly, easy, funky.
pretty, ugly, easy, funky.
The one and only (under DOS, that is)
the legend. even i did a tune with it. and i swear it won't happen anymore!
I never tried to track anything on PC. Only playing snake with friends while listening to various random mods =)
why should one not give a thumb up?!
this tool had a bigger influence on the scene than any one demo ever could. PHEAR
Best of the Best
If I ever decided to track something (which I don't, because my musical skills are rather limited), I'd use this.
Yes! my past.
FT2 is beyond thumbs up for me, i've wasted years in this program and i would really like that 1:1 windows port someday :) although SK@le tracker comes close, this is the real thing.
well deserved thumb up
bestest... just a little outdated now.
Well, I'm an Impulser, but anyway ft2 rox :)
up
\o/
haven't used it for years, but still rocks :)
I do not have the ability to create music. None the less, FT2 rulez!
oh yeah...
Triton.
FT2 is the best under DOS.
yay
THE tracker.
amazing tool... still is
not only my entry to the scene but also the program i used by far the most time during my computer life...
tOOl!
its a lil ok
nvm this rulez
from 1996 untill today I would say this program stole about 2-3 years of my total lifetime.
original and the best - this was my first music progam and still using it nearly 10 years on
yeah, great one Triton :)
I was a IT users, but who could say 'no' to a nibbles game? :-)
haha did you put that up? what config? the colors? I dont get it. seed so I can look at it!
oldskool
best tracker ever
In comparison to IT this was the bigger step from the old ProTracker style modules using instruments instead of just samples. Impulse Tracker's NNA were nice but not essential, the rest is just a mix of XM and S3M. And the interface was simply more professional than the one from IT (Text mode just sucks). Can't believe Triton did this in 1994. Awesome.
Almost as good as IT.
sample editor was nice, but interface == horror+torment.
Gotta say something, I've been using this for the past 10 years and I still do. Before that it was the original Fasttracker. for what it is, for the bugs, missing lines of documentation and the occasional contradiction of specification, implementation and documentation. And the Protracker features Reed mentioned just should have been there. for Nibbles and the people who thumbed up only because of it. More for the overall quality and smoothness, both the UI and playback. I mean seriously, is there a way to get non-clicking sound out of Impulse Tracker with Sound Blaster cards? God knows I've tried.
i'm new, and trying to learn... ft2 is where i'm focusing now
I don't care what raina says, I am thumbing this up for nibbles only. \o/
this is the best shit ever used
IT has uneffective and confusing interface but FT2 is great! FT2 has it all!
IT has more features, tho =)
IT has more features, tho =)
uh, what am i talking about?
anyway, almost all my life is wasted on this program, i could be sportsman, playboy, who knows but anyway i can truly say that i'm a tracker =)

haha
uh oh ... didn't thumb this one ??! Damnit ... ^^
The Beatles and Elvis Presley used this tool to make their songs.
what can I say :) simply rules
heh... this is FATHER of all modern ft2-style trackers: skale, milky, renoise. But FT2 - the best!
Simply the best tracker ever!
Really strange i haven't thumbed this one.. Here we go then, used this quite a lot years ago.
The awesome lies here.
Top!
People using FT2: dumb.
People using IT2: left-handed
People using IT2: left-handed
Neutralizing stupid comment above...
Spend many hours with this 10 years ago. Loved it.

great tracker
very good tracker
the first tracker that was nice enough to tempt me into doing more than just playing modules with it ^^
Its a nice tracker just bad it just works on win 95 / 98 kinda :P
Mythic!
the greatest tracker ever! still using it for chiptuning :)
Also if I haven't never used it, I know it was (or it's) a mythic Tracker! Deserves a thumb up!
i like IT and FT2, does that mean i'm like ambidextrous?
I had tracking in FT for 10 years...
Simply rules!
Simply rules!
I still use it and it rules!
Great work. Not my favorite tracker, that is scream tracker...
Super tracker! Actually got to write some of the details about it, over on the Fast Tracker I page, but whadda hell. Snake+GUI+about box is really cool. Nice user interface I must say!
just loved it
i didn't enjoy writing music in ft2 because i was more comfortable with the scream tracker/impulse tracker interfaces. but ft2 had some great features such as the sample looping options. because of this tracker, the scene had some great music. so, i must thumb this.
i have to admit i had a couple of very good years with this fella.
fasttracker <3 best tracker UI to date
Still the best. Thankyou so much Triton.
Always liked to play around with FT2 from time to time... Great production !!
I can't use any FT2-alike programs, but I have to admit that wonderful tunes have been made with this program.
Still love this tracker.
Still in love with my first tracker.
Classic.
First SoundTracker. Then Protracker. Then OctaMED. Then.. Ft2. And even when I'd reopen tunes into IT to add some filter effects or whatever, I still did most of the real work in FT2. Everything I did before it was just screwing around. Thank you, Triton.
Would have thumbs up for being a decent tracker and whatnot... but 3 thumbs down for being one of the most horrible formats to implement a decent replayer for.
gotta pay my respectZ for the mad tuneZ made with thiZ 1! (one eleven!111)
Seems like we still meet sometimes...
Haha, I must admit I feel GreaseMonkeys pain! even though they gave a quite detailed description of the format :D
And wasn't .IT an even worse format to make a player for?
okkie: The "quite detailed description" is neither quite detailed nor correct (try to load a XM with code relying on the official specs and you won't be able to actually load it). In comparison to XM, IT is the god of sanity, the format makes sense, the effects make sense, no strange FT2 quirks to emulate, etc...
That was part of the charm back then: "Oh, here's a file description. That's surely all you need *snicker*". And then people tried to implement that and found out that they haven't been told half the story. :)
Totally forgot to thumb this one up. A blessing for us coming from the amiga to the pc.
the one
Must be thumbed up, this tracker deserves it.
Agree
Still the best tracker for DOS
Still the worst tracker for DOS
nibbles!
Works smoothly under DOSbox, but no colored border, sadly :(
wait, never thumbed it up? I spent so many hours in front of this tool back in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Endless nights of joy. Thanks!
Words cannot express my heartfelt gratitude, appreciation for this piece of software masterpiece.
teh bestest!
wazaa!
deserves a thumb
True.
I'll always have love for trackers and FT2 is still my favourite. I don't know how many times I've typed "cd ft" followed by "ft2".
easy thumb here :)
cd ft2
ft2
I did some stuff in Protracker, but ft2 really got me started. So so good

11 persons are IT users.
great!
Thumbing it down would be a crime.
Have its charm, and cool user interface
I made so much music with this tool. Much of it crappy, of course, and I'd sometimes use Impulse Tracker for the percieved sound quality. But, still. Best tracker ever.
Er, and it seems that I've already commented, but just forgot to thumb last time. Oh well :D
love it!
will now try run on DosPad for iPad, on a Jailbroken iPad 2.. let's see if it goes well.. known good audio configuration is...
---
Go to CONFIG (note do not press the Sound Blaster button for Output till last or else it will run slow! Change the settings by using the up and down arrows for the Sound Blaster settings to Port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1, 16-bit DMA 5. Now go back toward the top left and select the Sound Blaster button.

let's get to it!!!

Lovely.
it was my tool for some years :)
love it!
Along with Scream Tracker 3, one of the two original seminal trackers for PC. Admittably I personally preferred ST3's (and later IT2's) keyboard-oriented user interface, but FT2 is a slick piece for its time. Not to mention the integrated sample editor and other advanced features in the format itself -- the concept of FT2's extended instruments were, back then, one of the few real innovations made to extend the module concept since UST/PT times. Respect!
well, had some fun with it and them tried to run it on my iPad..
there you go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGoSkjPGGLE

Its not protracker.
it was my fav for years
I used it from 1995 to 2004. Thank you Triton!
One of the best demotools ever made!
djh0ffman: thankgod, I'm not going back to keyboard cut and paste.
Dunno why, but except the sampler function, i never realy love FT2 compare Impulse Tracker ;)
the best tracker i ever used. pure perfection
it's getting never old
i remember chatting with the triton guys at assembly 1994, and they showed how they coded this with borland pascal... i had no idea how big this would be
Thumb up for opening doors.
^ It helped me open the doors of perception *cheeze*
This is what got me into making music. Best tracker ever IMO and just a legendary piece of software if you ask me!
good. but i'm not good enough to be a musician :(
without this i wouldn't exist. thanks!
First PC tracker I used! Still the golden standard.
for FT
A true classic and an important piece of computer music history...
I'd personally give it two thumbs up if it wasn't for all the bugs and the confusing format for replayer coders. :-)

Maybe some people have not heard of the updated versions 2.10 & 2.11 yet?
And also ft2 clone, which is a very good reimplementation for Windows/Mac/Linux.

Childhood memories: bussing 15 km to my childhood friend's house every weekend, winter and summer (with my NON-removable hard drive :-) ) to write music together on FT2 and become superstars one day :))))
That was EPIC back in days

As far as the date goes: The first public version must have been released around mid-94, while the last one came out (sort of inofficially) in Jan-99. June '95 is the 'ok, we're done' date you can read in the help section.
