awwman, i was hoping for a 64kb softsynth disk like fr-028 - was it too much to ask? :) 20 chiptunes in 1mb ain't exactly innovation..
added on the 2004-05-12 18:17:18 by phoenix phoenix
dat isses ;D
rulez added on the 2004-05-12 18:20:04 by las las
most of the size if due to the graphics, the tunes take around ~300k.
the 64k musicdisk could be done as well, as soon as we get enough tunes to do so.
added on the 2004-05-12 18:24:43 by Gargaj Gargaj
nice one :)
it'd have been neat if the box was closed when you quit it
rulez added on the 2004-05-12 18:35:23 by lodda lodda
lousy soul: I'a just dl it at the moment and was asking myself if does it close when you quit =). Do not know the content yet.

CONSPIRACY! I bow my head in honour! :-)

This was actually quite a pleasent experience since I really like chipdisks. They are awsome to have when coding ( the blip-blip sounds makes the brain think computer thoughts ) ;-)
A really beautiful interface and some really good songs! Here's my thumb!

just another musicdisk
rulez added on the 2004-05-13 00:08:35 by psenough psenough
most tunes are excellent :))

and Cns shows such a scene spirit by providing a way to rip the tunes :)
rulez added on the 2004-05-13 02:33:44 by Zest Zest
Nice... Some songs to bring up the old skool spirit, and a pretty nice interface. Though it isn't that informative about each module, it would've been nice with a little info here and there...
rulez added on the 2004-05-13 07:31:52 by d3pth d3pth
nice idea about the interface...i like it :)
the msx is aswell very good.

all in all a very good and clean one.

Yes, Ekoli got the point. Yesterday i just start it in the background (some night time coding :) and when i stand up from the desk i just imagine that the time is gone. 8 hours of pleasure :)
added on the 2004-05-13 10:36:08 by AbcuG! AbcuG!
the interface was _really_ cool but the music wasn't that good, so can't thumb it up as a musicdisk.
added on the 2004-05-13 10:57:01 by pantaloon pantaloon
Cool interface, some chiptunes are not as nice, cute and lovely as some other ones I have heard before, but I haven't checked all of them yet..
rulez added on the 2004-05-13 11:14:27 by Optimus Optimus
should you add a volume control it'd be perfect...
No innovations, but a mxdisc is about the tracks and not the bells'n'whistles...

rulez added on the 2004-05-13 21:51:04 by soolta soolta
cute interface, very much so. it could use some text tho, a scroller wouldn't hurt. as for the tunes, the majority of them sort of sink into the sea of average chiptunes :)

some constructive (?) comments for vincenzo:

some tunes have good ideas that don't carry the tune all the way through, such as the beginning of "loop" (the chords/lead destroy the mood) and "out of energy" (you should figure out whether your chord is a major or minor, heh, otherwise fine), and "s.o.s." (again, i'm not very fond of the lead, it was fine until the lead sound kicks in).

as for the more funky tunes, i think they lack musical skill more than technical skill (the use of tracker effects is actually ok in some songs), but don't worry, you can always resort to doing electro :D

gee, i wonder where you got the title of the tune #7 from btw ;)

Hint of the hidden tune: number one @ scenemusic and on top of the chest! ;)

Great work, guys!!
rulez added on the 2004-05-14 16:24:33 by Weasel Weasel
really good and attractive interface, i like it a lot.
unfortunately i dont really like the tunes very much :| some are good, but most are pretty average chips, rather forgettable, and a bit lacking both musically and technically.
a couple of good ones, but it's not quite enough for a thumb up here.

veery fresh, veeery well executed, cool tunes, the only issue ;D is the _big_white_border_ why?? what's so uncool with a thin black border?

the tunes are nice but an ability to cue forward in the tune would be even nicer. Some additional info or the ability to export songs may also be an improvement but I understand if yout intention was to force the user to start the md more than once. All in all, nearly rulez.

i've expected much more from cns. interface is nice, but the size, and music quality... i can't see/listen other chipdisks after fr-028 ;( fr pushed the limits away.

nice idea when it comes to the interface, but i only liked some of the tunes
added on the 2004-05-19 11:14:07 by dalezr dalezr
jorg:
the musics take ~700k alone (~300k packed), because they're not synthesized, only simple .it's and .mod's. (some of these were written before CNS actually existed (=no synth) if I recon). also the graphics are ~1.8MB (~600k packed).
this is no way intended to be "the next big thing", it's just that Vinc likes to release musicdisks time to time with various people (e.g. Singular on C64), and this time we all happened to be CNS-members, so we thought we may as well consider this a CNS-release. we had fun making it, some people enjoy the tunes ("music quality" is subjective), so we're happy :)
added on the 2004-05-19 11:34:59 by Gargaj Gargaj
Gargaj:
all is ok. i've just expected that there will be latest music released under CNS label. so why i was disappointed. nothing personal here. maybe i don't like pc chip music, c64/spectrum sounds better ;)

A layout how it should be, the disk loops, you could listen to every song without the must of manually switching. Topmost function, good border, stylo layout, and good music of course. <3

Reminds me a bit of Columns for the Mega Drive, only the music was mostly horrible there. :)

I'm not "classic chiptunes" fan, so I like not so "traditional" tunes on this disk (2nd track, for example).
Interface is brilliant ;)

Great stuff. GUI even better than the tunes.

But hey, the orchestra hits in the beginning of Enigma are sharp! Spoils the tune :-(.
