I tested only little bit on emulator and the controls seemed floaty but maybe it's the emulator which also stutters for other reasons now. I will very soon try it on my GX4000.

Wow! Looks really smooth. Sonic is kind of the benchmark when it comes to 2d platform engines with its fast scrolling and angular platforms
