- 256b procedural graphics MSX 2 Menger Sponge by Fizzer
- Hey Fell, I'm glad you're liking them. It's kind of addictive, the same kind of fun that I got from Shadertoy when I was still active on there. I happened to do the exact same as you, but I ended up keeping it and eventually I dug it out again a couple of years ago and decided to learn everything about it. Unfortunately they go for about 10x the price now..

- It's a bit rough in places (especially the camera movements) but the cardboard modelling and animation is convincing enough. The construction animation of the cat and the backdrops is a nice touch.

- This one uses the blitter hardware to construct the sponge recursively. It could probably be rendered in pure software on the Z80, but this approach is way faster.

- So this one stores polynomial coefficients defining three discs. For each disc, each point inside the disc is plotted in black and then that point is reflected through the screen center and plotted in white. This has the useful property that when a disc is congruent with its reflection and points are plotted in raster order the result will be two differently-coloured semicircles. I used a column-major plotting order to get a vertical split, which can be easily seen because it renders so slowly.
Sometimes performing pixel-processing serially can be advantageous. - isokadded on the 2026-03-10 23:28:48
