- demo ZX Spectrum Stellar by Kpacku
- I have no idea what it all means, but this is gorgeous. Gives me the same chills as when I saw 'untitled' by CPU for the first time - the sense that the creators have broken free of the constraints of the hardware, and are just painting with code. Basically, you could put this in an art gallery and not have to explain what a demo is, and it would just *work*... and there are very few oldskool demos you can say that about. More please!

- 32b ZX Spectrum 7b maze by alone coder
- Hi :-)
Incredible code, as usual! 12.5% more evil than my version, and 12.5% more cheating too. (Now I'm wondering: is the lack of auto-run part of the trick, or just an oversight...?)
Thumb up for executing the goddamn UDGs as code. - rulezadded on the 2015-03-30 19:36:41

- dammit, wrong code. I meant this.
Code:org 0x732f rst 0x10 push bc xor (hl) dec hl ld a,c ret po xor b ret

- Getting the Spectrum in on the action. 8 bytes, with a lot of cheating.
Code:org 0x732f loop ld a,b cp (hl) inc hl sbc a,a and b xor c rst 0x10 jr loop

- 32b Amstrad CPC maze cpc
- Judging from the screenshot, it would benefit from spending a few extra bytes on a decent random number generator...

- demo Windows Coronoid by Still [web]
- This feels like a new milestone in demo design. Cinematic, and yet unmistakably a product of the demoscene.

- demotool Linux Windows MacOSX PPC RECOIL 3.1.0
- I liked it, so I made a Python binding for it.

(and implemented it on Demozoo, so now you should hopefully be able to upload screenshots in any RECOIL-supported file format) - rulezadded on the 2015-02-23 01:25:39
- 40k invitation Amiga OCS/ECS Assembly Summer 2015 Oldskool Info by CompoCrew
- @Jope: I would have been one of the ones complaining when you took out the "non-mainstream scene" platforms, so yeah, I'm still complaining when the platform range gets squeezed further.
I understand that this is only a one-off, but I can't help but see it as part of a general trend in the future of the compo. Assembly was the first major party to introduce a cross-platform oldskool compo - and even as the rest of the party has gradually turned into a 90% gamers zone, it has a place in my heart as the party with the friendly, enthusiastic compo crew that was always willing to give my weirdass British computer a moment in the spotlight. To reach the point where the other platforms are 'expendable', even for one year, feels like another step towards the inevitable death of the compo. I hope I'm wrong.
I realise I'm probably being overly melodramatic here. We've still got the wild compo; I'll probably be missing this year's Assembly again anyhow; and I don't believe for one moment that my sporadic contributions to the compo are a reason to keep it open to all platforms indefinitely. But I think I'm justified in feeling a bit of regret at what we're losing here, especially when it's being portrayed as a celebration. Anyway, thanks for keeping the flame burning on the oldskool compo for all this time! - isokadded on the 2015-02-04 15:29:40

- I still have no idea why systematically chopping platforms out of the oldskool compo was meant to be a solution to anything, but then again I don't have any better ideas for how it could have been rescued.
Ah well. End of an era. - isokadded on the 2015-02-03 21:33:45
