Importance of Greetings nowadays

A drinking game based on this would be brutal.

Hmm... Do I sense Jägermeister as a new Revision sponsor? :)

IMHO.. Greetings are best in the last part / end part if there is such, but there are various ways to integrate them, if needed, into the flow of the demo.

Too many times though, the greetings are there just to make prod longer ;)

It´s important if executed nicely in an intro or demo! Or even some message with it!

Greetings from holland to the all of you!

@Bifat looking forward to your new non-folklore amiga demo! Being different is what can lead the way to new fashions and trends on the amiga scene!

Scrollers/messages and greetings are fun and part of the scene experience. But I also think it's optional: no prod should remain unreleased simply because it lacks a greetings part.

What sim said!

- Bonding is important, and greetz spread positive feelings in our rather overwhelmed world.
- Greetz mark scene history: by greeting folks, you help their aliases achieve a small immortality - especially if you describe why you greeted them.
- You can insert greetz into the .nfo of the demo if sizecoding gets a bit too much. Don't let perfectionism get in the way of a decent demo: you can always make a post-party "full" release.
- Integrating greetz in your demo is often a size challenge, which is another way to show your skills!
- Text is ~cheap material for various effects, depending on the platform and the tools.
- If you're new to coding and the scene in general, text manipulation tricks will remain useful even if you go commercial someday.
**ckings are not in fashion anymore but has anybody sent them lately? What might be the last known instance?
Greetings lists are the best way to make enemies.

I thought greetings were there to show of the fancy custom made font. Or distract the viewer from the ugly rendering glitch you didn't manage to hide.

The point of greetings was to show mutual respect.

Greetings must be there and must be to your contacts and connections.

*NOTE* Hackers forgot CNCD from their .nfo. Now they have to flash it in next prod sometimes.

Greetings are cool and an almost unique artifact of our subculture! I was so happy when I was greeted in a prod for the first time (and still am)
Greetings to elites! Fuckings to fascists!

Greetings are there to give clout to your bros, especially when one is mogging with their routines/design. It was extremely jester not to send greets. (especially without mentioning they were in no particular/alphabetical order)

Seriously though, I think greetings were perhaps more important during the age of disk swapping/local bbs era, when you were on the mercy of your peers to spread your productions any further. Nowdays with these centralized pouet/demozoo/etc. platforms, it's different. Socially they work the same though, but of course their meaning is/will be eroded if people don't care about them.
"almost unique artifact of our subculture" almost. everybody greeted other artists even if they didn't know them personally to show respect (not just friends) in cd/vinyl records booklets in techno and hip-hip scenes, especially in the 90s. it's slightly less popular now i think. definitely stuff like that existed also on other indie music scenes. also check daft punk's teachers track ;)
In the classical music greetings were sent by borrowing few notes from another composer as a tribute. Eg. Mozart borrowed Clementi's piano sonata 24/2 for the Magic Flute's ouverture and J.S. Bach quoted Vivaldi's spring in cantata no. 27 (aria "Willkommen will ich sagen") one year after its publication.
