nodepond: No, it's no true. Evoke started in 1997, UC in 1995. It might be the "German demoparty that had the highest number of editions", though, but not sure about that.

What is the recommended way to go from the main station to the party place? The public transport routing I tried did not look convincing at all. Helicopter, maybe?

It's actually pretty easy via public transport. Either S Bahn from Hauptbahnhof to Trimbornstraße + a short walk, or you can then take the 1 or 9 trams from Kalk Post to Kalk Kapelle. You can also take a train from Hauptbahnhof to Deutz and take the 1 or 9 to Kalk from there. Either way is very unproblematic imho

put some calgon wasserenthärter in your pants
Darya is right, Evoke has great public transport.

If you hate walking and your train is arriving at the central station:

Take the Tram 5 from "Dom/Hauptbahnhof" subway station (direction Heumarkt, where the line ends). Walk up from the subway station to street level to change to tram number 9 direction Rath/Königsforst.

Takes less than 15 minutes, and if you are using the escalator at Heumarkt you will have walked less than 500 meters in total.

@Scamp: You're absolutely right - I keep forgetting that the 5 is also an option. (Only correction: Once you arrive at Heumarkt you can also take tram nr. 1)

Less distance walked = more leg energy for dancing later on!

And while i'm here i'd like to announce that we will be doing a panel talk on the topic of Inclusion in the demoscene - i think we can all get behind the goal that we should strive to continue making the scene a welcoming place, right? So please join us in the Main Hall on Friday – grab a Wurst and a drink and let's chat!

Thanks for the hints! I guess I was just irritated that googles ETA for public transport were MUCH slower than what the estimate for a bike ride. But now I realize that this is normal for relatively short rides that require changing trains.

Behind the scenes, we've been loving the neons lately!

The super hack to come to kalk might be (if possible): let the train you be out at Köln-Deutz (not main station). From there a super enjoyable 3 station ride with subway 1 or 9 directly to Kalk-Kapelle.

Pass the gate, and be welcomed by happy sceners ^^

🚗 ⚠️If you are coming by car, you will unfortunately be dealing with Size restricted parking compo this year!

There is massive construction work going on next to the partyplace - unfortunately, your parking and unloading situation will be affected by it. Please head over to the website to see what to expect and how we’ll deal with it.

Sorry for the inconvenience –we hope you’ll arrive at the party safe, sane and sound.

Please note its not possible to access the hall from "Heinrich-Bützler-Str." - best access is via Wiersbergstrasse.

pandur: No intention to this becoming a pissing contest, but first UC (UC95) was in a hall and was bigger than first Evoke, and the second UC had a tent that also was bigger than the Evoke location, and had more visitors, too.

How do I know? Because I am 1337^1337 and have been to ALL of these parties. :)

(I have been to all of the mentioned parties)

But in the end: That does not change an inch of respect towards Evoke, and it probably being the party that so far has happened *most often* in Germanys scene history. It's a HUGE achievement of an organizing team doing such a thing for such a long time, and no other organizing team has managed that (see easter parties that needed an orga team reboot three times in the same time span).

It's just not the longest running party in Germany. Which also is not really a big thing. It's obvious that the Netherland is the country of longest-running parties BY FAR. 2/10 points for Germany, 10/10 for the Netherlands.

Scamp: asuming you talk about the dutch X party.. if so.. it has alot been held bi-annually. In terms of running a yearly demo party for the longest its definately Evoke in Germany :)

Longest running party with demo compos is probably The Gathering. :-)

UC13 is running since last Sunday.

Infact it's Assembly.. 1992-2024 still kicking ass..

The Gathering stopped in 2023 in the Pouet listing

But Assembly is mostly a gaming event, doesn't have much to do anymore a lot with the demoscene. Surprisingly I've been present yesterday with my dog. It was nice to meet so many old pals.
