Looking for loopmaker (Ami-tool)
category: music [glöplog]
Heya!
I used to have this little loopmaking program on my Amiga where you loaded a sample - then it would resample things and make a perfect loop. Now I'm desperately trying to get a hold of that same tool again... it was oh so handy :-)
I've checked AmiNet - but no fruity luck there.
Cheers... and see you @ Revision 🍻

Do you need the tool or just the functionality? OpenMPT, for one, has the same feature.
Just need the functionality - the tool would mostly be for fun and a nostalgic moment I guess :-) OpenMPT - I'll look into that. Grazie! /S
Greetings slide!
AudioMaster IV had such a feature if memory serves me right.
There is one program that immediately comes to my mind – Mobius Loop Maker. It allowed one to create perfect loops and I mean literally perfect; with no clicks, pops or artifacts. Was a game changer for me. Is this the one you are talking about? MLM was written by some polish guy using a moniker William Mobius and it was also probably the first original I've ever purchased ;-)
I still have it on my old Amiga SCSI drive, but unfortunately I can't access it anymore as it suffers from some hardware issues...
Btw - loops achievable with MLM sounded a bit similar to the ones from Heatbeat's modules; does anyone by any chance know the tech behind these?

I mean most of what these software do as far as seamless loops go is just take your designated loop points and put a crossfade on them; that's not particularly hard to do with any sound editor.

What gargaj said, even protracker can do this, as well as manually editing the loop point if you so wish. Making good loops has not been particularly taxing even since the hey days of early trackers.
As for samplers, as already mentioned Audio Master 4 is what I used back in the day before importing samples into protracker, as it retains loop point data.

So why majority of loops from Amiga mods sounds so bad/terrible? ;) I'm afraid crossfading may seem obvious today, but back in the day it wasn't. If it was, why would people even bother to make loopmakers?
I remember spending countless hours trying to come up with a solution with no luck :)
I guess ideally, a loop maker would also jiggle the loop points back and forth a tiny bit to get a better overlap (giving the cross-fade less artifacts to smooth out).
Nowadays maybe you can do a context aware deep learning sentient loop maker. Similar to these routines that fill holes in pictures with related content.
You can tile a texture using the crossfade approach, but it doesn’t always look that great if it has a very visible structure (pebbles/rocks perhaps)
So maybe loops could be better than just a reverse crossfade as well.
without a link to a sentient loop maker for amiga this post isn’t worth much though.

@Loaderror: if it's any help, I can send you a bunch of samples looped using Mobius Loop Maker.
@Virgill: was it a kind of internal TRSI tool available for friends and relatives only? :) This is something that an average musician in 1995 would sell his kidney, lung or even half of the brain for!

One gets usually better by doing it by hand
@jazzcat: yep, and it wasn´t freeware.. But nobody bought it so we released it a little later. :)
Greeting all of ya'll :)
I'm on the hunt for Mobius Loop Maker - it might be the one... so I've registered at ppa.pl and posted a request there.
The Heatbeat-tech. Any leads to that?
Thanks for all the input!

@jazzcat nah I’m ok. I’m only doing 4k music ;)
Just set speed to F01 and you don’t need to loop. ;)
Crossfading loops with OpenMPT is just great for me nowadays, costs basically zero time to attach and gets usually good results. So I definitely would recommend to check this tracker out.
