I know he was an inspiration to quite a few of us within the demoscene.

Incredible how long he lived with ALS. Big loss that he never elaborated on it. His case should be thoroughly investigated.

RIP.
By the way, it's Albert Einstein's birthday today, and Stephen Hawking was born on the birthday of Galileo Galilei.

"In the late 1990s, he was reportedly offered a knighthood, but 10 years later revealed he had turned it down over issues with the government's funding for science."

For many reasons, he was one of the most admirable persons that ever existed.
And a very good writer too.

Isn't knighthood a royal award? The monarch is the head of state, not the head of government, it has no effect or sway on funding decisions.
Hawking dies and the "Atheist" jokes started in my country social networks. God i hate their jokes!!!
btw RIP Hawking.
btw RIP Hawking.
Gargaj: The monarch is regarded as part of the government in most constitutional monarchies, except in countries where it was officially rendered a purely ceremonial function (like Sweden, iirc)
Gargaj: the queen gives the award, but the government chooses who gets it.
I just wanna echo the sentiments of those above.
It’s a bit spooky that 3.14 (American date format of course) seems almost unironcally connected. Ultimate nobility. I hope his spark will live on eternally in the minds & works of those inspired by his life.
Pi-day. A strengthening & contemplative day for us all.

What a dick!
Bryan deserves it!
Did you turn it off and back on again?

I learned that to be knighted, the Queen puts a sword on your shoulder. I wonder why she doesn't stab the sword through your stomach. Of course it does not amount to the same thing (in one case, it's harmless, in the other, it's lethal), but the fact alone that she uses a sword shows it's all about power, i. e. the ability to harm other people, or at long last kill them. (I'm sober.)
He got 40 more years than the doctors gave him & accomplished more in those than most people could in any number of lifetimes. He literally changed the way we view everything. He'll be missed, but his legacy will live forever.
R.I.P
RIP or not RIP. You have chosen a great day in the end - a π day!
