I'm not going into the piracy debate, because this thread is dumb enough as it is, but do know that sequels to games that people enjoy are being cancelled because the original didn't sell enough to pay for the people making them.

and well, i support piracy group with my art, but don't download anything, except maybe photoshop, which i do think all of us surely got it through the same pipelines.

If I sample a portion of a tune, and incorporate it into mine - it's remixing, as long as my tune could also stand on it's own - and isn't just a blatant rip. Well, the Amen Break might be a lot of sampling, so let's ignore that for now.

i admit i download my share of warez, be it games or media.
its nothing to do with being air or a rebel or a freedom fighter, i just want more stuff than i can or am willing to pay for and its there, easy as that.

of course i rather pay for a product when im emotionally attached be it because friends/sceners are involved or i simply love it but saying that im 100% consequent with that would be a lie as well.

i guess my (simplified) standpoint is that i spend more money on games and music than the "average joe" hence its not my fault when they go bankrupt ;p

I'd make a further distinction based on whether the image is used rather as a texture (like the drops here) or as a distinct feature (such as in the other thread), and then whether the copied features are rather generic (example: a jagged line resembling a flash) or rather specific (example: a face). But I'd not make a decision, I'm not a demoscene referee :D

I think the point is, that anyone would probably make their own distinction, hence it doesn't make sence to try to establish a rule of thumb. If you want to avoid a possible shitstorm when people find out you've ripped something, don't. Otherwise, rip away in a more or less "respectable manner" :)

dunno what to say about all this current mess, but what is important for me is that h2o is (alongside mogue, rotox, desert and stylez) the fucking best amiga ascii artist ever surfaced, with the most original style. and this is what i always will remember about him.

you all shut up. Noone makes decent logos anymore, all gfx went to hell somewhere in 2004.
H2o dies great logos. Maybe not as good as Alien, and maybe he borrows. but atleast he does stuff.
You see it all the time in the graff world, the originals die, and the new blood copy and improve. We can all see from the first logo that the H2o logo looks 100 times better than kenets.
Kenet made the orignal, but H2o made a better version. Its the same thing with EVERYTHING.

My deepest respect to Alien and everyone who can stay 100% original (or they think they are original, but are influensed indirectly)

I could point out every logo ever made in any scene production and find some commercial, graffiti or calligraphy related relation. No one is original.

But I see Kenet and Aliens point, and it was a good point 15 years ago, but today....anything goes.

Does anyone dare to tare apart Archmages logos on C64? I think not. But it can be done. Everyone bites!
