NEW 4K PC DISKMAG NEED YOUR ARTICLES!

category: general [glöplog]
you could store all articles in a 64x64 byte table of the likelihood 2-character sequences and build them from markov chains.

But me and ps are being very serious.
kaneel: please do not resolute our common galactic religion into a static phase trolling! or i'll eat your baguette.

closed: show me a working multi-platform interface and i'll write you an article :) doubt you'll get much support from the rest of the PC scene though. lack of articles was part of the reason we stopped pushing PAiN. that and lazyness.

I bet you're right. So I expected it and now... Ahhh pouet get ready for tons of my comments :D
Really sad that PAiN dead. It was great mag, one of the best.

Dear PS, I'm sorry you don't take things as seriously as I am right now. Look, I'm serious. See my face? I'm that one kind that care, like bears who care, named the carebears, like mothers.

I recieved some letters, so, I want to sum all: the project is not totally stopped, if I'll have enough material, it would be released.
So, if you want to see your article(s) there, drop me a letter with it(them), please :)

I like the idea although 64k would probably more suitable.

Well, everyone likes the idea of 64k diskmag :)

I can't do REAL 64k diskmag. For my project I have tools for making executable from ASCII/ANSI file. And result will be DOS-executable with just smooth scrolling - no music, no menues. Yeah, and fonts may be custom...

Guys, it would be shit for 64k diskmag, what do you think?

*it runs on pure Windows too, but without some tips and _smooth_ scrolling, and by default not in fullscreen*

Im all for an Android based Mag.
Actually im all for an Android based app that does publish single issues with a bunch of articles once every few month/years but delivers them on the fly when they are still fresh.
And yes, it would be a lot like your usual news-aggregator-app but one could add music and some nice UI and gfx to make it more demoscenish.

tbh i dont see much point in doing a static mag 4k, the limitiations are just annoying. If you want to keep it small stick to 64k as several others in the thread stated, maybe then there would even be some room for quality ;)

If I recieve enough material for 64k mag, let it be 64k!

So dudes...

I think it's fair to say that diskmags are dead.

At the risk of sounding ignorant in some places.

Let's say this diskmag idea has piqued my interest and I might wish to contribute something article-wise for it, can you help with the following queries?

1. 4k or 64k?
2. Any article guidelines, maximum recommended article size etc?
3. (Really question 2.5) Strictly scene topics or can you write about any random thing?
4. If I don't already know you, how do random interested strangers with previous diskmag track records get in touch?

Forgot question 5. Any deadline or timescale as yet to gather in articles?

Wait, dos based? Just plain text? It sounds less worthwhile :(

How about: A mobile disk mag, with articles presented as straight html. We can have a demolish UI + music, and with html5 buzzword bingo style trickery we can have cool demolish articles too (and yes even integrated javascript demos!) Fuck it, embed youtube captures of demos and effect examples while you're at it.

Doing it that way is pretty easy, and could easily be cross-platform since both android + iOS (and all the other modern mobile OSes if anyone can be bothered) support it well. Beyond that it just needs an article browser UI + download code. The articles can be hosted online somewhere, updated regularly, and new music + pics can be added easily too.

Demolish UI and demolish articles! osx 10.7 has built-in spelling autocorrection everywhere ;( Time to train it up with some scene vocabulary.

So, a mobile website, you mean? :)

if it could work offline, yeah :)

I was thinking of a simple front-end that just downloads any new articles form the server and presents them as a list (this could be html of course too), then open the articles in an embedded browser.

With html5's local database support that's probably all possible via a website, with full offline support.

@CiH
1. Probably 64k, but I'm sure size will be a lot less.
2 & 3. No, no.
You can write about what you want, but articles about demoscene is most welcomed. Also, topics about coding, hardware, so, about computers is very nice too.
4. Ahh... Hard to say :) I hope that someone from this thread readers will write some articles for issue one, then *I hope* some issue 1 readers would also write something...
5. Well, I think that number of articles wouldn't be big till september at least... Also, I hope to release not only one issue.
