This whole thing is insane. Depending so much on the same thing and everything stops... Al Qaeda's dream I guess.

Today the news reported was that "nobody knows how long it will keep going, but last time, it lasted for 18 months". So, this could actually turn out to hinder a lot of demoparty-goers (in addition to all other normal travel of course). Sucks.

@gloom: At least all the prognoses say that Southern Finland airspace could be opened for two days now so flights from USA and Asia can finally land, but after that it goes closed again because new ash cloud is approaching (no sign of eruption stopping).

I should say I'm 'lucky' because I haven't been planning to travel overseas - all destinations within Europe are reachable within train, ferries or bus. Then again, this is a situation you can't really avoid or blame on anyone else. In the old times they used to travel around Europe with horse carriages, I try to keep some retro attitude to these suddenly prolonged travelling times ;)

Luckily, in the modern age, even the volcano has its own Twitter account -> http://twitter.com/Eyjafjalla

Iceland has given more damage to the EU economy in a fewer weeks than the damage that PIIGS gave over the years :/.

Why doesn't anyone try to come up with a method to direct the ash somewhere safe and cool it down so it does not scatter all over the place.

Maybe because microparticles aren't so easy to control? Especially when they are lighter and less dense than the air itself. If you apply a force it will scatter them all over.

well, we could use a modified polaron emitter that is connected with the warp core. I can adjust the main deflector dish to create a neutrino displacement beam to absorb the particles and beam them directly into the sun.

it's already scattering all over the place, might aswell try doing something

Message from the government of Iceland: "Put 30 billion euros in unmarked bills in a bag by gate of the Icelandic embassy in London and we’ll turn off the volcano."

Just 30 billion? Wow they are cheap.

Apparently the air traffic will be quite normal by Thursday, but Icelandic geologists are now afraid that Katla (the volcano next to Eyja.. how-do-you-say-that) will blow up. Hopefully it happens *while* I'm at Outline, I have no hurry back to home... :)

Oh well, let's hope for the best. Apparently my plan B of taking the trains thru Sweden etc fails to their stupid pricing policy - whereas Finland has fixed prices depending the length of the journey, in Sweden the prices gets higher the later you book the trip. Also, you need to pay when you book and you can't get a refund. While this is very common practice among many transport methods, it still sucks. I can't afford to pay over 100+ euros for trains that I might not be using at all if I'm able to fly on April 29th as originally planned.

*murmur* I'll go back to study more Dutch...
