Teh shit :(

Every comment is interesting, because every one is an alternative way through problems. I would like to reply to all of them but I don't know about my time. The date of my last exam is set at 20th April and I decided to study a bit per each day. Not that I like it, but I was fed up and I wanted to have passed at least one lesson before I finish. Time is more, subject is better and the professor seems to also be a very good guy (one thing that killed my motivation at the previous lesson, was some kind of hidden irony of the other professor). Yesterday, I was just bad, and what happened here was inevitable. Classic..

I will try dalezy's hint. I like gammawave's post, it's funny and keeps me like laughing and not caring. I agree with xbit that my definition of success sucks. I like Bad Sector's message, as about programming limited devices, that's what Antitec does now, I may have to learn asm in the microcontrollers he works if I want to work with him. I am also thinking about developing in Gamepark32 or GBA today, since I tried something at Summer, and knowing ARM assembly would be good for other modern devices (mobile phones) too. Perhaps I'll have to struggle a bit with C++ or Java if I want to code with my brother's projects though. I'll think of it. Wade, I agree that's a part of me that is missing, selfconfidence. I generally agree with the things here, even if sometimes they make me laugh because they seem so simple and perhaps the problem is that I have to do something. Or it's not like a problem but just another bad day. If I am feeling fine today, I forget. And nothing can stop me writting these things on Pouet. And Thom, no you are not gonna miss me :)

"for the intellectual people, there are two different ways to follow: first one is alcoholism; the second one is impassable..."
Blala, that was good :)

As for suicide, I found funny what a greek scener once told me, hard to translate and keep the fun (so it won't be as ironic as I remember it), perhaps I don't remember it well but it was something like "There exist many simple sollutions for people with suicidial tensions!" :)

Anyways..

Sounds bad :(
I have to find it exactly as he said it..

gammawave: so wise words! :)

Wade: Einstein was never really good at maths... it was his first mathematician wife who did the big math part of his theories, then to thank her he dumped her and never credited her priceless work... Einstein is indeed such a genius ;)

oh and Optimus: you should write a book about how you like computers, demoscene and girls, and how life sux in general ;)

While it may be relieving for some people I doubt that whining will solve any problems. Therefore I suggest these simple instructions to pass exams and be happy:

* drink coffee

If you're done with it you may find yourself quite content, highly concentrated and in a nice mood to learn math, do some coding or talk to girls.
In case the feeling wears off you may want to drink some more coffee.

Zest: somebody there still understood riemannian geometry - which was of course (ok, not of course, but still :) done by Riemann and not by Einstein's wife :)

Paralax: coffee is cool. unfortunately, it is highly addictive, and people also tend to develop some tolerance....
anyway, Paul Erdos (famous hungarian mathematician) said that "a mathematician is a device for turning coffee into thereoms"... :)

Optimus: "living with many addictions is easy - you don't have to think, just follow your instincts" (some finnish philosopher quoted in doomsday's demo 'boost')

maybe Riemann was actually a transexual and einsten married her... sorry him... whatever!
added on the 2004-03-16 23:55:38 by pan pan
pan: little problem with that theory, is that while Riemann lived 1826-1866, Einstein did the same 1879-1955...

Erdös was totally fucked up.. he lived out of a suitcase and never settled down. He was addicted not only to coffee but also to other more effective stuff. And apparently he holds the record for most scientific publications by a large margin.

The two most outstanding mathematicians of all times are however Gauss and Euler.

Einsteins first wife Mila may have debugged some of his earlier mathemacial theories, but in general this is not assumed to be of big influence. Einsteins outstanding works did not involve very complicated mathematics.

i did not say that Erdos was not fucked up :) he lived on amphetamin (besides coffee :), and he did not the kind of math i like. still, he was a (really) great mathematician, and the saying about coffee is totally right.
.
and there were/are so many outstanding mathematicians that the list would be considered flooding even by pouet standards :))

We always say: "Informatician Black Box description and usage manual - In: Coffee; Out: Software"

eye: yes i heard that too; but quite probably the original is by Erdos.

hehe eye that may explain why Bill Gates is the richest man on earth : he's an alchemist who transmutes cheap coffee into golden software !

Especially that quote of the Hungarian mathematician is teh great shit, however I never liked coffee.

no problem - just try amphetamines, or coffeine IV, or cigarettes..
added on the 2004-03-17 16:35:01 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
I like neither of them or haven't tested some of them.

Just imagine Optimus, with amphetamine you could write rants of truely biblical proportion...
added on the 2004-03-17 16:39:28 by havoc havoc
yeah.. When Erdös manages to be an author in more than 1500 papers with the help of amphetamines, they could enable optimus to bring diversion and havoc into 1500 webboards.

your local drugstore will give you anything you need. Here caffeine tablets are sold as 'Coffekapton', brands may vary from country to country though.
It's also a good idea to have some 'dextrose' around, just in case blood sugar goes down too much during a coding session.
Finally plenty of water should be available; you may substitute that with your favourite beverage or sonmething, it did never work for me though.
Make sure nothing distracts you, dim the light according to personal preference and put on some music in case it does inspire you. Force yourself not to open the browser at the next moment you could but take some pen and paper now. Write down your concept and some diagrams you may need. Keep lots of paper around in case you need it. Personally I prefer 10*10cm square sheets of paper and black pens as the contrast is highest improving the readybility in the dimmed environment. You may now start to code. Try to get yourself into a state where you're completely focused on your problem and not interested in anything else. Turning flashing off in IRC may be a good idead now. After a while, finally, you're reaching zen.

blala: you seem to have a msc in mathematics, congratulations!

optimus: i feel pity for you, because i understand your problems. it is just shocking in what overwhelming manner you reflect them!

i know from my own experience that mathematics can give you a hard time, but it also can be fun. i think that mathematics cannot be done in a quick way, you need to read, think about it a few days, read it again, think about it etc. etc.

sometimes it is nit so important to get a solution in short time, but to understand all problems of a proof. do not overerstimate the demo scene, your heroes are also just ordinary people more or less! (except for kb perhaps, who is a super-geek-nerd and a soundsystem genius). your problem is not that you have no life, but dwell for days on bad experiences an unsolved personal problems (like i do sometimes). you are certainly not a stupid person, since you have coded impressive things. and i think it's not a good idea to read maths for hours! you have to stop and take a break when you feel your productivity going down. relax a little bit!

The problem is not that I don't like maths. Perhaps it is that I prefer to do my own stuff than reading for my university. When I can open the PC and code every little thing, why struggling with something just to pass the exams? I believe that it would be boring with informatics or any other department too, but the diferrence is that my studies would be easier then..

You don't need to feel pitty for me. I feel happy enough these days, however I am still a bit anxious about the final exam, nevertheless the previous one was just another bad day. Blah :P
