7th Annual Scene.org Awards
category: general [glöplog]
archmage: the logica there is: best demo (lotsa bits) vs best demo on an oldskool platform (little bits)
maali: wtf are you talking about?
could you rephrase your question so i could at least answer it properly, cos at the moment i dunno what you're refering to??

I bet some nominations would look different if actually the scene would decide them. I might suggest a way like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences takes for the Academy Awards nominations and later winners. Now there is democracy.
You do know that the Academy consist of active movie makers, right?
discussing about the scene.org awards on the internet is like....jsyk.

that doesn't make sense. EoD is a demo, like it or not, so I don't see why it couldn't have been nominated for 'best demo'. they might as well rename the catagory 'best PC demo'.
it'll never make sense to you no matter how i explain it... ;)
I wonder who is to blame for that...
Hi there!
I think I need to give some explanations :)
@Decipher, Navis & Aftu (and maybe others):
You're right, there's no "procedural graphics" category. We didn't
Jury works started very late this year (for several reasons), and decisions like adding a category needs an additional round of voting. The quick decision has been to keep the categories unchanged and put the procedural graphics in the graphics category (exactly as some of you suggested), but none of them managed to get nominated there (FWIW, I would have loved to have at least one).
@Salinga:
By a strange coincidence the method used by scene.org is exactly the same used to assign the Oscars :)
FWIW, I'll be around BP with a "kick me" sign on the back (yep, I'm the one to blame for anything... really :)

thanks for the clarification... though this blatant absence is still a pity :(
Gargaj: it would be interesting to see the Pouet.net Awards results :p

it's like the chicken and the egg.. maali being the egg, obviously :)

now gentlemen, i think we found the root of all the problems with the awards...
i have a solution, give the awards to the people that are constantly whining so their hunger can be satisfied.
I read you all and I wonder what better solutions you would all give to the orgas of the scene.org awards.
Paying for getting an award would be cool if Scene.org gives the money to Brokepoint.

depends if you consider pouet==scene (heaven help us what the nominees would look like then), or if you suggest e.g. providing a certain percentage of the voting weight to e.g. everyone who participated in a compo at a demo party over the last year (might be more interesting) :)
or the way the baftas work - previous winners/nominees get to vote in future years.

self-selection bias FTW
@Maali: I don't think that is the case. I think it just shows that either a)the scene.org awards does not cover the whole scene or b) that it covers a different scene. The first option proves it a failure, whereas I am totally fine, happy even, with the second option. Therefore: noted.

Actually jury members are not allowed to directly vote for prods they participated in or were linked to in a close way to prevent just this.
And the pouet.net award for TL;DR goes to... OPTIMUS!
Knoeki's reproach is so true : 'best demo' is misnamed imho, it should be renamed into 'best newschool demo', and maybe a new category could be added, named 'best demo' or 'best prod' or 'BESTEST OF TEH BEST' or 'BEAST OF THE SHADOW'!... where all demo types could be nominated so that Panic Room or EoD could challenge other standard demos for the shock & awe impression they did on the scene o/
And then people could whine even more about the nominations for all categories looking the same.

if you mean the scene.org nominee candidate voting thingie, pretty much stargazer won everything including best 4k and breakthrough performance :)
