question regarding endless image zoom in
category: general [glöplog]
Jcl: the picture at the end in contour is surely a _still_ picture and is _not_ rotating anymore! :-)
It's just a pretty nice 'eye-twister' you still have from the previous rotating thing...
I get the same impression as well when I watch contour and it really looks funny as you definitely think the first few secs that the pic is still moving in a weird way though! :-))
P.S.: just for the record...when I wrote CD in my last post I surely meant CD2 / Crystal Dream 2 (and it's fractal zoomer) and not 'captured dreams' as it is referred here previously though... ;-)

Here is a slightly different version of image zooming effect from Assembly 2002 64 kB intro compo:

It ain't endless but it runs for several minutes ;-). We call it Röyksopp zoomer for obvious reasons...

yeah, it doesnt rotate anymore but i seems to and now im sick
I have one that predates 'em all ;)
In untitled by dust, there's a (kind of) rotating infinite zoom effect (the weird tunnel part). It's not fullscreen but definitely an infinite zoom, and that was 1993. Anyone got an appearance before that?

The Dust zoomer was simple, because the middle of the image was black, and so there was not much need for blending.
Damn it...ryg!! ;-)
Yeah...I really almost forgot that 'untitled' dust demo from the old days...
Man...THAT was also a real killer prod when I first saw it on my machine!! :-DD
Thanks for the memories, man... :-)

I wouldn't even call it a zoomer, more of a tunnel effect (or wasn't it)?
damn ryg, you're a stiffy among the scene-wise. i remember seeing "untitled" at the party and it was an impressive demo, and not just for the indiana jones 3d-beginning. :) (oh, and the keyboard-leds were great! :)
i also remember "the good, the bad and the ugly" by surprise!productions ... gah, nostalgia-trip! nostalgia-trip!
(..also; the soundtrack to "how to skin a cat" by melon running in the background because some danish amiga-scener "forgot" to swich off his machine before going to bed - it's still imprinted in my ears..)

There's also Leonard/Oxygene's 24 kilobyte Deep Mandelbrot Zoomer. Dunno where it is here, but it's on his website.
Of course, in that one there are obvious gaps where it doesn't recalculate often enough, but I think it qualifies.
Also, HPlus by Hacylon sorta endlessly zooms in; and you end back where you started (psyche!)

i always thought "untitled" tunnel was... that, a tunnel (+ a wobbler)
"Untitled". Yes,. you can say that. It looks like a tunnel but it seemed to me being an infinite bitmap zoomer. I totally forgot that because it doesn't give me the impression of the modern infinite zoomers..
airkelle: Röyksopp zoomer or how do you call it, yes, another kind of effects I like. I like your Java demo a lot here :)
Like the first I have seen in Melrose space. A lot of diferrent tiled tunnels zooming out and forming a picture! http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=162
Then you see a similar thing again in Squish by AND
I have also heard that Melrose Space was not the first doing that but I totally forget now the demo that did it..
I like demos with effects inside effects and such nifty psycho things. Like the great screen in Boost with the scrolling tilled varieties of effects :)
The first effect inside effect I had seen was the plasma cube of Second Reality if you want that we talk again about FC =)
But I am out infinite zooming main theme!

Also Dark Rain by Loonies features this cool effect.
If I have any recollection boost had the same effect in all of them. In fact you could do them at once using just one large displacement map ;) (Actually kinda nice idea because of its simplicity..)
Optimus, actually we call that zoomer photomosaic zoomer. If somebody does not know what a photomosaic is, here is an example:

I guess the zoomers Melrose Space and Squish cannot be called photomosaic zoomers because they do not contain photos unlike our intro ;-)

zoomer photomosaic: Yes, I just remembered that I have seen that in a computer magazine before watching it in demos.
optimus: contour runs fine on my athl2.6 radeon8500 win2ksp4...
my favourite one in there btw...

Take a volume-texture that's nice and big, say, 1024x1024x32. Take 16 photos for every of the 32 intensities. Add shader to select proper texture-coordinates. Enjoy your realtime photomosaic!

I just watched it for 2 hours and it really did not end !!!!!!111!
You didn't really watched. It loops in 46 pictures.
I think it was just one large displacement map, together with some constant texture scrolling. Atleast that would be the simplest implementation that comes to mind, and it really didn't look like they did fancy code for this :)
I was thinking yesterday how to do it on the CPC by using my powerfull X-stretch routine. It will rock!!! (I had seen this effect in some Speccy demos, smooth, but just two colors ;P)
