how much "geek" do you consider yourself?
category: general [glöplog]
optimus: if you go to germany make sure you wear lederhosen... http://www.lederhosenmuseum.de/
And get a leder hosepipe to go with it - the girls go wild.
>> i guesss.. these days maybe even >
I consider myself also <<< or even <<<+, but not all the time (like crest said).
so, people tend to be surprised about my hobby when they hear about it. means: I can be really nerdy for a few days (usually during party trips :) but then again completely forget about that computer stuff.
@crest: I also think that most sceners have a very critical attitude towards real world but somewhat don't talk about it with other sceners. just take vudu, diver, fzool, ...., and some more (me :))

I meant those talk about it.... sentence screwed up....
gc -= (1<<(axis*8));
too much, like <<<
I actually entered the 'garbage' behind <<<+ in a hex-editor...
This puzzles me...
I was geek enough to see that it was ASCII code in hex, but I was not geek enough to translate it entirely in my head... Or maybe that's just laziness...
So I'm not sure where that puts me.

My little brother is the luckiest of all of us, my big brother is a clone of my parents and I am in the middle of everything.
As for the question, I really don't know how much geek I am. Surelly >=<< but it's something that I really wouldn't like to think today. Either I'll get a life oneday and I won't like it (real life sucks as much as the scene anyways ;P), so I'll return back to the scene, or I'll remain a geek for a lot more years. Going nowhere :(
According to The Geek Test I am 14% geek, which makes me the least geeky of the Astrophysicists in the department here...
i score at 17.55%
I scored something like 12.473982%.
Anyone who filled the geek test must add 50% for just taking time to answer it! I don;t have a score cos I didn't answer it. I got better things to do.
I did it while i brushed my teeths, but it was really long.

what this really tests is the hair colour. first spend 15 minutes checking boxes. then find out that it's a javascript (that happens to be disabled) hack.
and this is not even the first time goddamnit.

I like to read and I like poetry, art and culture.
I like some sci fi because it gives us a new perspective on ordinary events and expands our mind.
I like computers because they give me a way to express myself and communicate with people. I like watching demos because they show creativity and problem solving.
Am I a geek or just thirsty for mental stimulation?
Let's look at what average non-geeks do with their time....
They go out boozing which makes them fat and they lose care in their body.
They act like fools and lose peoples respect.
They get moody and obnoxious and lose their friends.
When they are at home they sit in front of TV cos they dont have anything better to do and they dont have time to be creative or expand their mind in between parties and boozing.
They can't remember hours of their lives because they were too drunk so that's just time, money and potential they have thrown down the drain.
People can say we are sad for "wasting our time" but in ten years time they'll be braidead and I'll have 10 years of knowledge and creativity in my head to improve my life.
So yes I am a geek and proud of it. I'm intelligent and cultured, creative, I have friends, I am slim and I'm still a hit with the ladies. So what should I be ashamed of?

Ultimate Gas: word.
Ultimate gas: I don't see the connection with having healthy lifestyle, culture etc. and being a geek... In my experience, it's often the other way round. All those steriotypes of big fat ugly geeks dripping pizza and coke on the keyboard, getting totally wasted at demo parties, and still being a virgin at 60 don't come from nowhere :) Theres a pretty wide range of geeks really.
But I think the true geeks are the ones who work at a computer all day, and go home to 'surf the net', play quake, and code stuff. They usually have more than one computer at home, often a selection of old machines and wierd hardware too. And can talk for an hour about the latest graphics card.
Actually, I probably have the most geeky job here... I'm sitting at a desk with 10 computers on it, 2 tft monitors, 2 laptops, big piles of cds everywhere... but when I get home, I won't go near my computer unless I have to do coursework or write an email or something. So I'm a geek when it pays I guess :)
