If you read it, skip the technical parts; CPUs have gotten way faster and more parallel in the last 15 years, and eg. doing everything sample exact is absolutely possible today. Most of the high level "soft skills" stuff in there is still pretty valid tho, so have fun. Even if my writing proficency embarrassingly reminds me of 50 Shades of Grey or worse nowadays ;)

Also, check out the stuff other people wrote. You would miss out if you didn't follow people like Revival, Ferris and Gopher at least. (And Blueberry and Puryx. And Gargaj. And so many others)

The sad thing about the tutorials is that they stop before really any of the DSP comes in :-) But they're useful to get the basics in. I do agree that the “update stuff only once per buffer” idea is a bit outdated, though (it was a bit extreme to me even at the time).

I don't think I ever wrote anything in article form but I can sum up my experience succinctly thus:

ferris: Just FWIW, the (Min)BLEP things seemingly don't come out all that well in actual sound quality. (I can probably dig up the paper at some point.)

Gargaj: Actually, the problem with musicians that I've had isn't largely hate, it's indifference. It seems the number of musicians interested in using a 64k synth _at all_ is rather meager (of course this is much easier when the musician and the coder is the same person :-) ).
