So, did you take on the backrooms and liminal space imagery with this?

Nice video tape glitches.
I hate cliff hangers ;-) ...so the admin hat a bad day, run into Sharknado then into the Shining :-) I like !
It was ======, especially the ======== !
Nice
I could really not find anything good with this. Sorry, not my cup of tea at all.
Very experimental, first part can put many into sleep mode, but it’s really worth watching till the end. Good job Gargaj!
very nice :D
The thing at the end (I shall not give a spoiler here) being fully in the centre of the frame 10 seconds beforehand is probably the best example of Checkhov's gun I have ever seen in a demo.
Frustration, anxiety, uncertainty are all really present for me watching this, and it makes me imagine the different things it could mean. Is the demo running in my brain now?
Brings memories of Safety Measures in terms of being "uh?!" and "whaaat?", at least a bit.
Nothing short of excellent. This one's right up my alley, so there might be some bias, but still: the direction is great, colors and elements fit the style really well and the story is told in just the right spot between being vague and giving some bits and pieces to create that feeling of unease while making the mind wander through the possibilities of what this is, where it comes from and who made it.
Also worth rewatching some times, at least I found that helpful to grasp more details. :)

very wannabe backrooms indeed, unfortunately the 3D and particularly the lighting lack that 'is this real footage?'-vibe so that's a little bit off putting if you compare the two. but the narrative is very well done
Jeez couldn't you find any less worn-out tape?!
Amazing storytelling
Amazing storytelling
Yes, great direction, which makes it very immersive.
Best thing I’ve seen in a long time. Excellent sound design makes the piece! ▶️
Wow, that's a great experience!
Concept was cool
Ok - if still someone asks me beginning from today "what is a demo"? This one will be one of the demos I will show them! Great experience - and I have to rewatch it, again! And again ! and again... <3 - but wait - are the walls are coming closer , now ? ;)

Simulates the "found footage" degraded video experience better than any other demo to date. It proves that with image quality, sometimes less can be more. I'm glad it stayed full framerate, that helped with the illusion of video. Like other UD/CNS releases, the story is somewhat open to interpretation but the direction and narration are there. Good sound design, which was necessary for it to work.
Oh, and I was waiting for a ■ at the end. :)
Incredible! Best demo of the year for me. If someone could properly tackle this vibe it’s gargaj. Amazing work.
Some nice camera work and ideas, but let down by the really artificial lighting and texturing of the various scenes. A piggy.

"classified-tape-accidentially-found" vibes done well (the fact it looks like 90s CGI experiments adds an additional level of uncanny :), also what urs said
Woah great job I think you really nailed the vibe here. Proper attention to detail! Animation must've been a lot of work but the end result is so smooth it made me a bit jealous, hehe. I was gasping when the protagonist slipped! And the whole thing sounds great :)
Also funny to think how this genre was born in YouTube, now made to a scene demo, then uploaded back to YouTube but now in a different context. Maybe the creepy liminal space is more real when it's rendered in real-time though? For a while it exists in your computer and is partially revealed through a virtual camera, then destroyed until you visit it again.

Good.
Great concept, even better execution
WOW! This was truly a demo like never seen before!!! *fuckton of claps*
An unusual concept. I don't quite understand the storyline, but I like it. :)
Fix the tracking issues and its perfect
Filed under: what the fuck did I just watch?
good idea to use the organic camera movements with lost vhs tape aesthetics! tight execution aswell.
Who you gonna call?

The 90s, asking if they want their cg back?
I really liked the parking lot scene, that being said even through the lens of 90s retro style rendering it looks a bit ugly, not in an aesthetic way. However I was still entertained by the concept and execution, also +1 for no music.
Looks like a short film done by S. Kubrick. Very nice ! 🫣
Amazing how you created this disquiet mood.. Let me write the script for the last phonecall.
Yeah, this was really cool in all aspects. I really enjoyed the 90s rendering style since you wouldn’t capture 2023 with an old camcorder, which makes the whole thing super meta :)
Camera work was exceptional, probably filmed and tracked?
The VHS Postprocess was too repetitive though

All work and no ▶
welp, I've finally moved to the dark side and changed a CDC.
Found footage finds a footing.

+ Love the concept and the VHS effect
+ Great camerawork
+ Some of the scenes and texturing work are really convincing (like the server room)
+ Excellent audio that really glues the whole thing together
- Some of the scenes are unfortunately less convincing and pull you out of the experience (paper planes I'm looking at you)

p p cool atmosphere. Camerawork looked quite immersive and the scene changes flowed well. I couldn't help thinking about how unfaithful the NTSC/PAL shader was though :\, I think a quality one would have added a lot.

What MetRebels said. Blair Witch demos are defo not my cup of tea.
I'm typically an old school guy - but this, I just LOVE - on every level. A million billion thumbs
Good idea well executed :)
ok
Awesome presentation - I think all of us watching "backrooms" videos over the years had the same idea - to make something similar, maybe with some "muzak" in the background. But I like it that it manages to be a solid demo that relies only on sound effects.
Beyond that, the visual quality is excellent. There is so much attention to detail and performance of the post-process effects.

Does it come on Video2000 as well?
Yup, that's how it's done. Think outside of the box (tm) and make it work.
And don't forget to rewind the tape.
One of the best directing this year (I loved the camerawork). And you need imagination to understand it. Congratulations, I love it
As far as I can see, Gargaj introduced the Backrooms videos to the boomerscene.
Gargaj, is this part of the canon or just a fanfiction? Nevertheless, it's a great implementation, and the infofile is wonderful.

Nice one! Love the camera work and the sound design.
aesthetically completely on point. this slaps
What uncle-x said. Also, obvious jump scare is obvious. :-)
So so.

First watch.. absolutely terryfing. Second watch sharing with a friend... STILL absolutely terryfing.
Just brilliant.
Just brilliant.
Backrooms: the demo. 😄
Good one. :)
Hö?
This was totally unexpected.
Concept. The camera movement is very authentic. The sound design is well executed. Could have more detailed textures on the scene to make this more convincing.
very interesting take on the backrooms imagery, amazing execution
waw :p, i havent booted USA-dos to check the executable but i think in this case i will b/c im kinda curious. If this is really modelling and a realtime executable , not augmented reality with a fullscreen shader.

WHO did the camtrail ? lol , it moves so natural the only thing i can suspect is someone put godmode in it and some kind of trailrecorder algorithm ? (all assuming this is actualy modelled 3d environment)
bc a trail like this with all angles and motions by hand will take quite some time by a one-man army to polish until it looks like an actual guy moving through a realtime environment
the box must have been the favourite last year here for the "suits of the scene" award (actually dont know who won what, just all the nominees)
and this is like totally different
thats some talent fit into one head ... it must give migraines heheh

oh no breaks huh, mea culpa we is really new to the site ... give it another 20 years and we'll comment like a boss ...
I'm not entirely sure what I just saw
Dunno how it's 90mb? I'm sure a guru could do it in 4k or 64k.

If you can't be guru-esque enough to write an appreciating comment, why should anyone else bother overcoming your level of laziness? :)
Wow, that is something completely different!
Nailed it!

Having read Gargaj's comment on Youtube I presume there might be some write-up (soon?). However, as much as technical details might be interesting for some people, I'm more interested in WHY rather than HOW :-)
I love the rendering, fucking good idea!
Beautiful rendering with lots of details and references. I don't get the story but I love this.
So cool, and stylish! Congrats!
Nicely done VHS but... it does not do it for me as a whole I'm afraid.
The VHS <3, the soundscape <3, the story <3 !!!
Reminds me of when I was working at a datacenter in Slough. Slough is a miserable town, and the datacenters were the ultimate in liminal spaces. This nailed the aesthetic.
top notch sound design, <3 the footsteps! very effective suspense. mocapped camera movement? SCP-31337

interesting demo looks like its filmed on 8mm tape
and nice sound effects and scary story

very well made, especially the sound and the movement of the camera! nothing really to rewatch for me but great for what it is!
Original !
.superb
excellent sound design and camera work, the rendering style fits the theme so well, and it all comes together to something that builds suspense very effectively. rulez!
Very nice esthetics and hooray for that concept!
Direct-to-video ;-)
Excellent and creepy. Need more of this.
Usually the tracking potentiometer is on the front panel of the VCR to adjust the VCR tracking for the clearest picture (if i remember correctly), you should use it :D . So great stuff, nice work guys!
I respect (and in some ways, adore) the work you put into this, but somehow it just doesn't work for me. The handycam works well enough, but the vhs obfuscation still doesnt adequately hide the deficiencies of the rendering. It feels like a mishmash of internet memes and Stephen King movies (namely Langoliers and Shining). Not bad at all, but not outstanding either. (again - imho)
Needs more metal pipe falling effect, otherwise perfect.
Wow.
Reminds of the indie horror/backroom games genre that's been trending the last years! Really good atmosphere and camera work! Would love to see a continuation to this story! :)
Great
Congrats! You are always surprising and brilliant!
This is the first demo of the newly formed Docuscene.
One of the most interesting PC demos in years. The sounds works so good.
